Compared to Hydrologist, this costs only (2) more, and puts a (3) cost secret onto the battlefield. To play both the secret and Hydrologist, that costs (3) mana.
Essentially, you pay (1) more mana for a much better secret.
The value is there, the tempo is okay, this is a great card.
After reviewing the secrets that will be in stanfard: this card's versatility seems insane. Against Aggro you can nab Barrier, Mirror Entity, Vaporize, or even Explosive Runes and not feel bad at all. Then against control you can pick a value cards and...wow, I think this might be an easy must-include in any Material shell regardless of Archetype.

It makes it even harder to play around a Secret, since you'll never know if (being the aggressor) your big threat suddenly gets eaten by a random Vaporize or if (playing a Control deck) a random Frozen Clone grants your opponent massive value. Before the announcement of Arcane Keysmith you would only expect some of the Mage Secrets to show up frequently (Counterspell, Explosive Runes or Ice Block... maybe Mana Bind in Quest Mage, but that's it). Now you have to be prepared for any kind of situation. This card is great.
secret mage is the most unfun garbage to play against. I know it's not top top tier. That's not the point. There's just no way to play around EVERY SECRET. Fuck this.
1 mana for the 2/2 body, 3 mana for the secret, and maybe half a mana or so for the bundling along with potentially being able to use 3-4 copies of a particularly good secret.

Don't forget the cost to discover a card, which is around 1-mana. This card is crazy.
It's heartening to know that Blizzard has not given up on Secret Mages in Standard mode just yet. I regret that I never got a good chance to finish my current Secret Mage deck (I never got Aluneth), but with cards like these, I get a non-zero chance of using them again.
Considering Mage Secrets are worth 3 mana, and this card's body is worth 2, I get to do 5 mana worth of stuff for 4 mana! And also considering that most Mage Secrets are on average pretty awesome, this card looks like it's got a good shot. I bet I won't even miss Ice Block with this one around.
There are a few 1mana 2/2 minions that have additional positive effects or tribe tags. From this perspective, the card is fairly priced. However, the biggest advantage is to discover a secret. This lets you act very flexible and makes your opponent’s turn very awkward. I think it is a very good card.
The chance you get all those 3 together is pretty poor and even if you do, you still get a 2/2 body which is better than a situational secret you put in your deck that doesn’t help either anyways.
Most of the secrets are viable vs aggro. Even ice barrier is 4 mana 2/2 minion heal 8.
Calling it a 1 mana 2/2 attached to a 3 mana spell overstates the strength. When's the last time you've seen a mage secret run without secret synergy? There are only 'ok' outcomes before adding in secret synergy and there aren't many plausible applications besides activating medievs valet in an all minion deck based on revealed cards.

One could say the same about Hydrologist which is run in lots of non-murloc Paladin. No synergies but just good.
This card does have indirect synergy with big spell Mage. It gives you more defensive options without having to play a cheap spell that could ruin dragon fury
Will this card Discover Secrets that are already in play? Since the game won't let you play duplicate secrets, it does not seem like this card would discover something that could cause an illegal move.
This is incredible.

Dear God Why? Haven't we had enough Counterspell in this Meta already???
Insane card, meta-defining.
i have a feeling we are going to be seeing ALOT of this card for the next few months/year

Is it really that good though? 4 mana 2/2 might pull a good secret. What happens when you get stuck with -
Spellbender
Mana Bind
Frozen Clone
Might be too slow against aggro.

Amazing card! Can't wait to play mage this next expansion.

Actually: Secret + 2/2 Minion for 4 Mana
Mage has no identity? Let's make some curvestone!

This works in the new archetype and in BSM, so yeah great card.
