I do appreciate the whole "the attacking lifesteal minion is eating your minions soul concept." Also, if there is a "salty" thread that I missed I apologize, I wasn't aware.
The keyword is what's catching you up is all. Before they introduced that word, cards used to say "whenever this minion does damage, also heal your hero the same amount" or something similar. Just think of it as that and not an actual stealing of life.
That's because it's a poorly chosen keyword. It's used to read as: "damage dealt by this minion also heals your hero" before it got shorten to simply read Lifesteal.
The original wording made more sense as you were healing for the damage you dealt as opposed to stealing more life than what your target has.

Lifesteal is perfectly balanced, it fully depends on the base strengh of a card
Nope it is really nonsense.
a rogue with 1 health can destroy a Mountain Giant and gain 5 health without dying with Kingsbane + 13 attack + lifesteal. That is really nonsene.
I know Kazakus potion with Aoe dmg + health buff works same but that seems so awkward. She gets -7 health first then +6 health. It is so annoying.
I have to agree that Lifesteal when you are already Dead (as a Hero) shouldn't be possible because then you couldn't really steal it as a Dead Hero (Kingsbane Lifesteal is BS when you go negative numbers, same case of Truesilver + Explosive Trap).
Yeah well a Mountain Giant which is an 8/8 can be played for down to 3 mana, is that not nonsense in your eyes?
nope, becaue it is worded and working as it should be. "Costs (1) less for each card in your hand".
It is not a "role-playing" issue. It is a mechanic issue. you can't restore a characther with - health. but lifesteal weapons can.
I'm not sure but if i attack a hunter with Explosive Trap with a full health Bloodworm while i have 2 healths. I die and bloodworm doesn't restore health for me. But like @Alexandru_91 says, Lifesteal weapons preventing this and this is so absurd.

I will willingly admit I created this account and started this thread over being extremely salty. But I started playing this game because it seemed to be very strategic and logic based and this is the first instance I've encountered that I just can't justify. Take that for what you will.
Oh, dear. I think you're in for a much wilder ride than you imagined, because this is just the tip of a very large iceberg.
My advice is to embrace the madness and just learn to work with it. Otherwise, you'll be consumed by it -- or at least become very bitter, very quickly.

I know this thread is old as shit, but God damn everyone in here is annoying as fuck. I mean, life"steal" as a concept is exactly right for you to complain as you do. Everyone here stating the obvious like we have no right to complain about a game so gd unbalanced at this point. You were right to point out this obvious flaw, but I'm sure everyone who was getting paid to do so now works for somebody else. Bravo everyone for sticking to your guns and abusing broken deck mechanics. The game is so much more fun with all of you involved in the discussion.
It heals you from your dealt Damage because "Lifesteal" is a mechanic from World of Warcraft which does the same stuff there (except it's not overpowered for most part like it is in Hearthstone sometimes)
I think the name "lifesteal" makes it confusing, ingame text says "Damage dealt by this minion also heals your hero". doesn't indicate anything about the target's health
I've been saying that for a while (example1example2), and I obviously agree.
its a great way to heal but sometimes the mechanic alone completely destroys the aggro player. not only I think that one should not be able to heal that much that easily, but also healing for excess damage does not makes sense in terms of "stealing life"
and no I am not saying that because of my salty moments, but because I really feel busted when I play a card like Walking Fountain against a hunter player. games against aggro are over as soon as one plays a great lifesteal card. it just feels so unfair. one single thing should not have that much of an impact.

Thats how Lifelink works in MTG, it's gaining life equal to damage done, so overdamage counts towards it.

The only illogical part is that a lifestealing creature heals your independent hero. Vampiric plus lifelink? PREPOSTEROUS

Lifesteal also works as it is intended, a card with Lifesteal heals you for the amound of damage it deals whenever it deals damage
Don't mind me just passing by
That's not necessarly the case, since Lifesteal heals you, it's goal is to protect, and so it can protect from lethal
