But this is a slow build nevertheless. Can you believe, that as a control warlock player I always squished spell hunters in the early days of the expansion? The key was just chilling, developing a board and protecting myself with the AoEs and heals, until I found my DK. Back then I didn't play the current popular lists, I ran this one, but the opponent still couldn't pressure me enough. Back then hunters didn't run the Barnes combo yet, so control decks didn't have anything to fear. Aggro decks could just play around some secrets like Wandering Monster by not attacking, but instead by buffing their board and then attacking at once. There weren't any taunts or other cards to stop them. Point is - spell hunter will lose its strongest combo and the new card can't do anything to replace it.
The hunter spells, which you mentioned, are strong, but once hunter starts to lose the board, then he can't do much to prevent it. Hunter lacks draws, so you can't consistently find a good hand with answers.
Imo, Blizzard devs, THIS should be the correct level for the 75-80% of the cards in a Hearthstone expansion. Good, usable cards. It doesn't have to be super exciting, just a CARD which I consider to put in a deck. Mana cost is right, the effect is right, rarity is OK. So good job with this one, keep on like this.

Is this too much to ask for?
I agree. It's also not too powerful as to break the game too.
its a good card but what is this hitting? because aggro is 1/1 and 2/2 token spam, and control decks are using things with 5 to 18 hp. atleast in the current meta its not going to shine but assuming midrange pops up in the next 2 years it will be very powerful
are you kidding? are you willing to evaluate a card as it is? *it is bad bcs it deals 4 damage and other minions are 5+ health, it doesnt kill anything* . fuck of tho this card is just perfect. we need an aoe spell and that s it no more card draw just A O E
1 mana "destroy Murloc Warleader" is likely a strong AF card. edit: lol warsong commander...
I'm not so sure about this as others. This a pure combo card. If you don't have board presence, than you need to combo this or use it for the very bad price of 4 mana. Hunter (still) has no card draw, which makes combo/control really hard.
This is a good card in a vacuum but I'm not sure it has a fit.
You don't play it in current spell Hunter and it loses you tempo games against other tempo minion decks due to Hunter's lack of card draw.
This card is the definition of tempo, I'm not sure what you're talking about. And you would also play it in spell hunter (not that I'm sure spell hunter survives the loss of Barnes).
4 damage for 1 mana is tempting, but this card competes with Flanking Strike. The former is a better control card while the latter is a better tempo card. I wonder which one will suit the needs of Hunters better, or if there are Hunter decks that can fit in both cards.
Yeh - cards like this aren't difficult to evaluate.
Aren't they?
Seems pretty murky to me how often/costly it will be to activate the 1 mana cost. And it also seems a bit hard to evaluate how good 4 damage removal will be for Hunter. I may be that 4 damage isn't much better than 3 in a lot of matchups and a lot worst than 5 in others. And If Hunter suddenly has to start priming this with casting that hound spell it's a 1 for 2 or 2 for 2 (best case?) of removal for a class that seems would rather not be doing that, but being the beatdown instead.
So, I don't know that I agree with this being a 10/10 card. To my eye it looks completely outclassed by Hunter's Mark. And I think when a card is completely outclassed it's going to have trouble finding a deck slot. Not many Hunters are going to be running 2x Hunter's mark and STILL wanting this for more removal.

In Hearthstone, which is a game of trading, you will trade quite often. I am hard pressed to see a metagame where this card isn't staple across all hunter builds. It's not, as you said, a 10/10, but it's such a clean tempo card that it should always find a place.
Meta defining cause it fits in every hunter archetype even aggro as u can ping a big taunt with ur minion it dies and then u hit with this and procede face.

Hearthstone used to be a game of trading. Now its a game of cheap tricks, combos and face damage. Tell me, how will this card be useful against Cubelock?

Thank you for your in-depth "dies to Doom Blade" type of analysis.

It's okay if a deck doesn't beat 1 out of the 4 top decks. If you beat the other 3, you have a top deck.

Let's hope for a bit more Control support, so it can become real!
For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
Flanking strike was also considered a top tier card, but it rarely saw any play, just saying. Control Hunter is a myth.

Hunter still needs good aoe.

I’m currently rank 2 on the 2nd day of April season with spell hunter no Barnes.
Barnes has such a huge drawback if you don’t draw him that I find using 1 to my side and arcane shot instead is so much more reliable
