It's annoying how they print those Dragon synergy cards so that you're always left with only one piece of the puzzle.
There are not enough good Dragons in Standard to justify running this atm. Anyone who brings up Ebon Dragonsmith is kidding themselves. Scalebane and Primordial Drake is more reasonable, but if you're putting Primordial Drakes in your deck, you're leaning heavily towards control, and one of the reasons Paladin is bad at control is because these days all the Control decks have some kind of massive wincon, which Paladin lacks.
Obviously very good if there are dragons to support it. But bad with Call to Arms. One of those cards you can't really judge until the full set or future sets.
The more I think about it this card isn't necessarily so toxic with CTA. Yes, if you pull it out from CTA it will lose its battlecry. But it's still a 2/2 which isn't awful. Sort of like how Dirty RatCard Name is used now - except the opposite. That is, you want Dirty Rat pulled from CTA but if you have to drop it you take the chance the battlecry will backfire on you. Here, you want to get this card in your opening hand rather than pulling it from CTA.
Anyway, I am cautiously optimistic this could work well with a bit of dragon support for Paladins and maybe some good weapons. With Rallying Blade leaving standard, one obvious bit of synergy is lost. But if Paladins got a good replacement weapon, I could see a dragon/weapon deck emerging featuring Val'anyr and Ebon Dragonsmith.
If we could run more dragons and take a chance on getting Val'anyr out earlier than turn 6 (coupled maybe with Saronite Chain Gang or even Leeroy Jenkins to use the buff from the weapon), I could see this working well.
You will play this card with Call to Arms in the same midrange deck, there is no conflict. Yes, it kinda sucks when Call pulls this guy out, but if Call is pulling this guy out, it's preventing you from drawing your 2-drop in the lategame, and you're getting two other minions along with it.
The only question is if there will be enough good dragons to make this card consistent on turn 2. Right now I don't think there is enough, but we'll see.
Well I can see some experimentation with the dragon that lowers weapon costs and silver sword.
probably a set ip for future expansions..
I am going to give this a try tomorrow. If that sword can come out via Ebon Dragonsmith for a lower cost, the potential is nuts. Also, there are enough neutral dragons to at least have a shot at a good deck. I'm optimistic.

I heard Hunter has gotten some useless Dragons, maybe they borrow us a few?
