Forget about card. Isn't Godfrey a mage in WoW and his death version was like an assassin? Why not mage or rogue but warlock?
why was Professor Putricide a Hunter legendary? Why was Anub'arak a Rogue legendary? I don't think Hearthstone has ever followed thematic consistency very closely.
Many of the earlier rogue legendaries where themed around betrayal
Edwin: Betrayed Stormwind
Gallywix: He betrays and enslaves members of his own cartel
Anub'arak: He's also known as the "Traitor King" since he killed his own people
Xaril: He and the other members of the Klaxxi, seek to kill their empress
Great post. But afaik Edwin was the one who was betrayed. When the stonemasons guild was called upon to rebuild Stormwind they were not paid by the nobles so Edwin founded the Defias brotherhood and swore to destroy the city.
I just felt a disturbance in the meta... a thousand zoo decks crying out, and then silence...
jk, it probably won’t get the usual fast zoo deck on its own, unless the player can stall until turn seven. I could see this working in some sort deck of giant-esk deck that doesn’t use deathrattle to summon its big minions after Godfrey is played.
It becomes a little risky to use a card that can take two health off a minion when it’s summoned unless you want it to die.
There are two reasons why Lord Godfrey is better then Geddon in my opinion (and Geddon is actually really strong in Control Mage decks):
His effect only damages minions (which might not even still be a positive, but whatever)
Just like Defile, he has the ability to completely wipe out the entire board, no matter how late in the game you are playing. You have the potential to kill anything from an Angry Chicken to a Void Lord to an Ancient One
If we assume that Defile is a fair card and its ability is worth 2, would doubling the effect not be worth 4? A 4/4 on top of a 4 cost effect for 7 sounds very strong to me. Even if it is only worth 3, that is still a fairly-costed card. 2 damage to all characters is worth, what, 3 mana? Even if it doesn't see play now -which I don't see happening- I can almost guarantee that it will see play next year when Defile rotates out of standard. I would probably bet money on it.
Inb4 I definitely don't see this being played in the big scary cubelock. Unless people start to play less greedy and remove that stupid 3/3 prince, cubelocks don't have good ways to utilize the remaining 3 mana crystals. The only options they have are using Kobold Librarianand their HP (normal or upgraded one). Yes, it's not that big of a deal, if they can't use all of their mana crystals in a single turn, but it was something, which I wanted to note.
And yeah, once again I don't see this in control warlock either, because the last thing we need is yet another clear. What we need now is either a good value generator or a win-condition.
Hellfire is garbage. Twisting Nether only got good when aggro fizzled out.
Sorry to say but hellfire is better vs aggro and TN is better vs control/midrange :) i dont know which aggro deck can make 4+ hp minions on turn 3 or 4 :) he will have like 4-5 low hp minion easily deleted with hellfire.
Not a fan of Control Warlock getting even more board clear tools, though I don't think this is as insane as a lot of people make it out to be. Getting the extra 4/4 over Twisting Nether is probably better against aggro, but Warlock already has so many great anti-aggro AoE cards that cost way less than 7 mana. It also has the downside of not always being playable. Midrange decks will often threaten you with medium-sized minions by turn 7 (think Spiteful Priest), in which case this may not even clear the board. The consistent Twisting Nether will be better in many cases against slower decks, especially in Control mirrors where the 4/4 body won't do much.
Of course you can include both this and Twisting, but at some point it has to be enough AoE for one deck. I think this is only slightly better than Twisting Nether, a good card but nothing that will radically boost the power level of Control Warlock.
This card value is just absurd. You destroy the board and you have a 4/4 for 7. If you play aggro or mid and your opponent play it, it's game over.
Poor design. I guess HS developpers are not playing to HS and didn't get any lesson learned from other card games.
AAAAAAAAAAND this is going to be an auto-craft for me. Easily on the power level of Sylvanas, the Lich King and Tirion.
instant craft

The World Is Yours
Control Warlock could make use of this. As if they weren't good enough already. Cubelock, probably not, but I could be wrong.
162 ladder wins with Renouncelock and counting! Reno, Zoo, Cube, Even; they all run Renounce Darkness in my lists!
7 mana 4/4 doesn't seem "very good" even if it does wipe both sides of the board
Say "Wow" for RNG!

It's even better than Hellfire, since in most cases you can trigger the Battlecry at least twice, dealing 4 damage.
Feels like a meta-dependent card. If a lot of decks are board-centered/aggro, this will be very good.
Fuck cubelock
Sorry if this was answered already, but assuming LG kills a minion -- he'll take consequential damage during the following battlecry right?

kinda weak. Dies to tidal surge :(
What can we say but...LEGENDARY!
Make the day.
