and not because i love patches the pirate, i hate this little bastard with passion, but realistically speaking how long do we have till the next exapansion? 2, maybe 3 months? with the new expansion we get new standard and these cards will disappear anyway! so its basically pointless, blizzard is making these cards unplayable so we will not see those in wild either after rotation!
its really weird, because a blind man could tell you how OP patches was after, i dont know, 3 weeks from its release. its been around for over a year, and NOW they are nerfing it? Why, whats the logic behind it?
Same thing with Raza. in my humble opinion it doesnt need nerf at all, but lets get past that. they nerf it -> razakus priest goes to the trash (lets be serious, difference between 0 and 1 mana hero power is huge), around april rotation comes in so Raza leaves standard -> nerfed Raza will be in standard for 2 months.
i dont know what to think about it, i feel they are doing it so later they can say they are reacting to the meta, while still making people hunt for patches for a very very long time (and that means many packages bought). im really, really disappointed
Why? Because they also want to keep wild slightly balanced and diverse. No more machinegunduin and not every half aggressive deck has to include pirates.
14 months is enough time for patches. And priest is simply too dominant in wild.
In a point of view of a free player this change are really good because you can get 3200 dust, two free legendaries, I think this is the main hidden reason for the nerf.
The explain this in their post - they don't want these OP/problematic cards to be present in their current state in the wild, where they will be even more OP/problematic.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
All cards are balanced, but some cards are more balanced than others.
How can you be so blind and selfish as to completely forget about Wild Mode...
Granted, i dislike the Patches nerf, i enjoyed using the Pirate package in all my Rogue decks, but the matter of a balanced and varied Wild is more important.
2-3 months is a very long time especially if you're playing it most days of the week and constantly seeing it. I really hate that attitude of "just wait several months and the problem that has been driving you nuts for months already will go away". There's no reason not to fix it now. If the card is broken, fix it as soon as it becomes a problem, not sit on your hands and hope people will stop complaining about it so you don't have to admit you messed up.
But yeah, the reason why they are doing it at all is for the wild players. Wild should not just be a dumping ground where the developers ignore balance entirely. Wild is supposed to be a format where some old extremely powerful cards still exist in their original form, but even in that atmosphere nerfs are still necessary to prevent it from getting too ridiculous. I guarantee you that people are still going to use both of these cards. Maybe not as much and not in as high of a tier, but still, people who like the style will still play it and have success with it after adapting the decks to not rely entirely on the OTK with Velen.
I used to think Blizzard didn't care about Wild; that it was a dumping ground for old or overpowered cards so it didn't taint their precious tournament format of standard.
Turns out it was the players that are pushing that belief far more.
As others have pointed out, in the time it took the OP to write a four paragraph shit-post about the nerfs, he could have read the actual explanations which Blizzard provided for those nerfs two or three times.
ok, i remember blizzard saying they wont be balancing wild, but ok, maybe it was just my imagination. still doesnt explain the time they took to nerf patches, card which was obviously broken from the very beginning
It's cause they love money. They let people craft expensive broken decks than they nerf those when it's too late. And the new expensive broken decks will rise :)
I think that the nerfs are needed for wild or both patched and raza would pretty much dictate the metagame for the rest of eternity but I seriously do not understand why the hell are they being made on this time period, it's sooo akward, if theybare nerfs for the future of wild, well... Nerf them when they're going to wild, like a couple days before the rotation hits, or something like that, that way standart players won't care as they can't use them again anyway and wild players will appreciate this 2 cards being balanced, everyone's happy.
Patches is still viable, you still get more stats with deckhand than every other one drop without a drawback, except if you draw him. And anduin isn't useless, the agressive machine-gun archetype is dead but he is still really strong in any control archetype. And for wild you have reno to improve the deck by a lot.
Is there any way we can get a full refund for the cards we crafted in order to play the decks?
Example: I have a golden Shadowreaper Anduin that i suddenly do not need. Can I get my dust back?
Example: Some people crafted Southsea Captain in order to play with Patches. Can they get their dust back?
It feels like stealing if they cannot. People actually spend money on something that gets changed after the purchase. Imagine this happening to your car, house, clothes.

Their main concern about Wild balance is that they can care much less if they release an ok Standard card that in Wild becomes much more powerful because of specific Wild interactions.
And that theoretically, Wild should balance itself with its inherent rampaging powerlevel.
But they never said they won't care of Wild balance anymore, and i'm happy they proved it.
To all those people complaining about crafting other cards to play with the nerfed cards. Yes it sucks but...
1. Balance changes have happened in the past so it’s not unexpected it might happen again
2. All 4 cards clearly had balance issues and people were complaining about them for a while. It wasn’t out the realm of possibility that these might be nerfed at some point.
3. Balance changes are necessary from time to keep a healthy meta.
4. Blizzards TOS and EULA allows them to change Anything they want at any time, this is something you agreed to when installing the game. They don’t even have to give full dust for nerfed cards. They do because they realise that’s the fair thing to do.
With all the above in mind any craft has an inherent risk involved. You took that risk and you got the benefits while it lasted, you can’t then complain when said risk ends up going wrong for you.

They specifically mentioned that these nerfes mostly address the Wild format.
Some Standard-only players tend to forget all those people ;-)

Blizz did say that those two are mainly nerfs for wild mode. Really not sure why Patches wasn't nerfed earlier though.
Patches will remain good in wild. It still has great synergy with Ship's Cannon and people love pirates in wild.
Bitch i'm Willy Wonka!

These are fine, I hoped for one cubelock's nerf

TLDR wild is a thing you selfish fuckmuppet

Wild = "a thing."
Close the thread.

Guys, go play Wild. You will see why this nerf is oly fucking needed, even if it rotates out.
Even the argument wild should be wild is invalid because wild is even a crazier mess than standard is right now.
