Good riddance. No more situations where Reno decks willingly add a few pirates to tech this in to combat the legion of aggro decks that he stars in. This nerf will basically limit Patches to Pirate only decks and that's the way it should've been from the start.
I was so concerned Blizz will ignore this problematic card just because it rotates to WIld soon so I am really happy they nerfed it ( I play wild also so I don't want to see it there in like 60% of games ) . Maaaybe it's not enough though...I mean a lot of the time Patches gets summoned on turn 1 and does 1 damage with the charge, so most of the time the nerf will not be that significant. At least the broken Southsea Captain and Prince Keleseth (which should have also been nerfed in my opinion) synergy is not as potent any more because you don't get the 2/3/4 instant damage. Let's hope it is enough.
But to be fair like another top tier card, people play it because they are broken and become core card so any change (even very small) can make it unplayable so i feel no matter how Blizz nerf Patches 100% his career will end
why, for real?, 1 1 charge doesn't really that impa to be nerf, specially at this time when pirate is likely disapear, really?, now when i accidently draw it, it become a 1 1 minion with nothing and become useless, really?, now you just want control deck to live and all aggro midrange deck die?
The only dedicated pirate deck was Pirate Warrior which wasn't seeing play in ages (at least in standard). Now with this nerf the 'pirate package' every other aggro deck was running won't make the cut anymore. Patches won't see play.
yeah, i don't understand why they nerf patches instead cubelock, specially at this time when the most annoying deck is cube lock (luckily priest have some nerf), and now we only have control deck left, so hard to play now
I don't like the nerf - it is now a way too punishing to have it on hand (I mean it is still a legendary and should be better than average, yet not broken ... right?).
I think that text on it should say Battlecry: gain charge - this way it would only be activated when played from hand.
I wonder what’s going to happen to aggro decks now that Patches has gone from meta-defining to 1600 dust. If Patches was possibly the best aggro card, and control decks have had a decent record against aggro decks, are an aggro decks going to be left that are good enough to beat the control decks?
aggro decks shouldnt be able to beat control decks. Thats the job of midrange decks. Aggro should be a counter to midrange, super greed control, and combo. Right now we just need a good midrange deck that can kill cubelock (jade shaman maybe?), and the meta should be in a great spot. The aggro decks can stick around to prey on jade druids and mill rogues and keep down the amount of unrefined greed that can run rampant in a control meta.
Since the nerf hits the right problematic spot now (Pirate), can we now have unnerf War Axe?
It's kind of like pulling Patches and forgetting to attack with him that turn. Only, that happens every time.
I mean we've all done that... Right?

Nerf a legendary card to be worst than basic cards. Nat says hi, Patches.
Hallelujah.

The charge was part of his flavor. Flavor more important than balance.
Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.

rogue can probably still run him. Swashburgler is a great card stand alone, and it isnt that hard to sneak in double deckhand.
1) he rotates out soon.
2) he's now pretty much worthless.
