I noticed that Explosive Runes doesn't function as written when playing a divine shield minion. For instance, today when I played against a tempo mage, she had Explosive Runes and I played an Argent Squire.
The result: Argent Squire lost her divine shield and I took 5 face damage. If the divine shield is meant to absorb all of the damage, wouldn't it make sense for the face to not to absorb the remainder?
I believe the problem lies in how the spell is coded.
When you play the argent squire the secret activates, checks for the health of the target, deals that much damage to the target and puts the rest into your face.
Argent Squire has 1 health, therefore the 6 damage will be divided into 1+5, and the 1 damage onto the argent Squire is ignored via divine shield.
Therefore this isn't actually a bug, it's just that the wording of the spell doesn't indicate how it works exactly
This coding is why it is extra wonky against targets with negative health.
If you play a 1 health minion into Swamp King Dred, Snipe, and Explosive Runes, the Dred will attack first (putting the minion at -8 hp), then the Snipe will do another 4 (putting it at -12), followed by Explosive Runes dealing 18 damage to face (6 - -12).
I bet Hysteria could make a OTK video with Dred + Faceless + Faceless + Taldaram + Explosive Runes.

Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.
I think it is working as intend by the Dev Team. You are imagining that you cast a Fireball on to the minion and if the Health goes to "-2" then 2 damage is dealt to your hero.
Explosive Runes are meant to deal 6 damage yes or yes. If the minion has Divine Shield, then 0 dmg is dealt to it and 6 dmg to your hero's face. It is maybe written a bit in a confusing way, but it is working as intended.
This is not how it works. The health of the divine shield minion matters. An Argent Squire will result in 5 face damage, while C'Thun's Chosen will result in 4 damage. And the divine shield is removed.
You can discuss all you want, but i have seen both versions happen, and thats what worries me.. i seen a divine shield minion played that just blocked all of the damage. and indeed an argent squire that got 1 and rest got face.. there is indeed a bug. no matter what the intentions are, just because there is some inconsistensy. upvote this please so blizzard can fix this shit. i play arena and lost to this inconsistency.

A divine shield minion would block all the damage if it had 6 health or more. You obviously aren't paying attention or even read anything in this thread.
This is working as intended and this thread should of been closed.
Divine Shield is not supposed to absorb damage, it says that it ignores damage 1st time. Since your divine shield minion ignored damage (took 0 damage) you should take 6-0=6 dmg. I believe that was 6, not 5. Otherwise there is a bug.
When you play a minion, this is what Explosive Runes 'says': "Oh, my opponent played a minion. I will deal damage to it equal to its health". Now, if the minion had 4 Health, it will deal 4 Health to it and the rest to the Hero. If it had 2 Health, it will deal 2 Health to it and the rest to the hero. It will always work like that unless the minion has 6+ Health, in which all damage will be taken by the played minion.
Now lets use the example on the first paragraph with Tirion Fordring. Tirion comes into play, Explosive then 'says' "I'll deal 6 damage to it, after all, Tirion has 6 Health". Explosive Runes 'doesn't know' what a Divine Shield is. As simple as that. That is why divine shield works that way.
So, to summarize, Explosive Runes does damage equal to a minion's Health. However, if the minion has divine shield, that damage will be absorbed by the shield. And since Explosive Runes does not care about divine shield, it will simply assume the minion died and deal the rest of the damage to the face.
PS: Here's some examples of the interaction:
Argent Squire: 1 Health minion, so 1 dmg minion, 5 face

Obvious answer to turn 1 lackey->runes, just play tirion on turn 2. Problem solved.
This is just bullshit. I don't know if there is divine shield kind of mechanism in other tcg than elder scrolls legends but in the mentioned game there is a so-called breakthrough. Breakthrough minion deal any excessive dmg to opponents face but 0 when divine shield is applied.
I think it's just meant this way to make this secret stronger. It's bullshit.
Dev team said more than once they want to keep things intuitive for players. So tell me which one of you wasn't disappointed when divine shield didn't absorb all the dmg? AND EVEN MORE CONFUSED when you received 4 dmg for e.g. argent commander.

This interaction has been discussed hundred times over ... if you want to continue in some kind of meaningful discussion, start a new topic (and provide a constructive starting point), but necroing old ones just to rant ... nah. Locked.

Pretty sure it's intended to work that way.
But Divine Shield is not suppose to ‘absorb all of the damage’ so I also believe it is working as intended.
the description states "ignore it". if the 6 damage is ignored, why would the remainder go anywhere else?
I believe the problem lies in how the spell is coded.

I tried having fun once. It was awful.
Don´t know if its supposed to work like that.
According to the wording i would also think that the Divine Shield absorbs all the 6 damage.
Peter Whalen and the design team talked about this before the set was released.
They considered the alternatives and it was determined that this made the most sense, when compared to the alternatives.
