To all the people saying this would be good in mill rogue, If you mill one of the candles off your opponent, they never get the draw a card effect, which is the same as extending their deck size by 1. Also, the 20/20 will never summon. I think this has good synergy with Valera the hollow though, as your opponent has 6 candles and only needs to draw 3 for your 20/20s to activate.
Remember your talking about at least turn 10 to play the darkness in that case because you need Valera and the passive hero power to duplicate the card. After you have not played any card but Valera the turn before, you will play 8 mana for cards that wont do anything. You better have board control to play it. If not your opponent has at least three turns to go face if the candles come out one after another, but that likely wont happen. Its more likely they will have 4 or more turns and you have sacrificed tempo.
Just suggesting a better use for this card in rogue. Also, after drawing a candle, they immediately draw again, so if candles come out one after another like you say, you have just played 2 20/20s for 8 mana.
This plus windfury and murmur in an elemental control deck. Meme OTK time! Throw in devolve to wreck any taunts. Unfortunately the opponent gets a chance to counter it because it activates on their turn. I wonder if it can attack on your turn if you activate it with coldlight though..
Uhmmm, it isn’t? It is totally and utter tier 6 garbage... I play exclusively wild, and hit rank 1 legend in Knights, and no, mill Rogue is NOT top tier. Loses to Aggro, midrange, Tempo, Jade, Priest (mostly) and generally to any combo decks unless they get very lucky. Oh also get crushed by dead mans hand. They have a very few favored matchups, against traditional control decks, like Control Paladin.
All in all Mill Rogue is garbage and will be after this expansion.

No one has mentioned it that I've seen yet so let me bring this possibility to light. This card in a priest deck... They have a 0 mana silence... turn 4 20-20.
Can’t target it. It’s on the board but won’t be able to be interacted with until the candles are drawn. So silence doesn’t work.
Anyone freaking out about this card killing "Reno" is being silly. Blocking Kazakus doesn't really matter. Blocking Raza is far more important. Because this and Raza are both 1-ofs, it's basically a 50% chance in every game of who will draw each card first. Are you going to spend 50% of your games drawing a completely dead card? Dirty Rat is way more effective and versatile (drew out and killed Velen the other day ftw - also, aggro). And then actually playing this card for the 20/20 effect is laughable. Your opponent will out-tempo you and attack face. Now, if it works in a mill deck that would be hilarious and great. I enjoy mill decks. But they're never top tier.

And yes, the card will have summoning sickness the turn the minion is awaken. Yes, this is a nerf to evolve (unless u/mdonais tells us this is out of the evolve pool or something) and a buff to devolve.
EDIT3: Another thing I've seen questioned here: Yes, the candles will mill if your opponent would mill the drawn card. So, if your opponent has 10 cards, and they draw a candle, The Darkness will be rendered useless unless you somehow add more candles to your opponents deck.
So far, 43.2% of 1267 voters suspect that spending a card and 4-mana to do nothing is meta-defining.
Apart from aggro, virtually every other deck in the game runs multiple answers to individual big threats, or they run board clears. The Darkness is kind of like a 4-mana 20/20 with "Battlecry: Freeze this minion for 10+ turns" - except you can't Silence it, Taunt it, or do anything else with the body. If you manage to survive long enough for this to activate, it gets answered before it attacks. As far as using this to prevent Raza from triggering - about half the time, the Priest plays Raza before you stick a bunch of candles in their deck.
The reason most people voted meta defining is that you have a card that 100% of the time fucks over razakus when played on curve.
The rest does not really matter.
If priest played his raza first then congrats, you got a dead card for the rest of the game
I personally see this card as a hard counter to exodus mages and a support card for any kind of control deck. You're playing the long game anyways it's just a ticking bomb for your opponent to deal with.
But ya exodus usually burns through their deck and giving your opponent 20/20 when you trying to stay alive is incredibly counter intuitive. I'm glad there's a new punish in the form of this card, we needed more than a lucky dirty rat or the mage milling themself due to miss play.
One thing no one can argue is that this card has more flavour and awesome artwork than the rest of the expansion combined. GG to the artist and creator!

EDIT2: Thanks u/deviouskat89 for this: If you recruit it then it is dormant, so it cannot attack until 3 candles are drawn. Also there are no candles if you recruit it so it is a bad card to put into a recruit deck. It is strong with Bran because you get 6 candles and need to draw 3 of them to activate. -Mike Donais
