beneath the ground costs 1 less mana, it gives you less total stats (12/12) but you get to get some tempo back much quicker and spread out instead of one big 20/20 all in that can get removed by a single death.
Why quicker tempo with beneath the ground? Do you need all 3 candles, not the first one, to trigger it?
You are all wrong with kill spell too. Opponent doesn't choose when he needs to kill it, it just randomly pops up on later turns, when he might have some other problems.
Eventhough it's a really cool concept and it's gonna be good in the first couple of days, it's too slow.
Judging on the card reveals, secret mage is going to be the big powerhouse in the upcoming expansion because it beats Priest and tempo rogue/zoolock. It's strong already, just lacks a couple of cards to be top tier. The new secret and tempo cards revealed for mage will push it to the front of the tier list. Making the meta have to keep up. Aka, make the tempo decks more agressive. Making this card nearly unplayable.
The sheer amount of ignorance around mill decks is really evident here. You don't want to give more cards to your opponent, even if they draw more cards. When you are milling the opponent, if they mill this card, you just added an extra card to their deck and wasted a potentially game-winning mill. Not to mention that you can NEVER flip The Darkness from now on. You don't care about minion power, only utility. Mill rogue does not win through minion damage or presence unless it played multiple Nzoth's. Ever. The only minions mill cares about: have taunt, can heal, are Coldlight Oracle, combo with Coldlight Oracle, or combo with the taunts. If a minion can't do one of these things, it is not worth being played.
Wow! Interesting card! Great tech against highlander decks, and an auto include for fatigue and mill decks. The only question is if these types of decks will be viable. If these decks are viable, this will be an amazing card, if not it will just be a niche/tech card. I picked playable because I have my doubts about fatigue and mill decks being viable.
No, it isn't. If you mill the cancle, the minion stays dormant. You need to draw the card to activate The Darkness, if you mill a candle, it doesn't count as getting drawn.
Also even if it does get activated on your turn, you still can't attack with it.

Thanks for explaining it better. What people here are forgetting is, that if you MILL a candle, you DON'T DRAW AN EXTRA CARD BECAUSE THE CARD DOESN'T GET ACTIVATED INCLUDING THE CARD DRAW. So in worst case, your Coldlight Oracle MILL 2 CANDLES, and not only that you CAN'T activate the minion anymore, you also wasted 2 cards and gave the enemy more cards in the deck.
Can I cheat the dormant stage, if I use recruit or put him in e.g. Big Priest?
No, if you recruit him or get him through barnes, you get a 0/0 on the field and lock a minion slot for the rest of the game. The "start dormant"-part is outside of the battlecry.
Question is: does they activate all if you draw 3 candles with a 1/1 of barnes? (or does it maybe start even as a 20/20 if you activate him through barnes)
Can you get the 20/20 version of The Darkness off of Evolve? Or is he dormant?
There are missing too many mana cost minions up- and downwards from him. Evolve only gets 1up. If there is nothing, the minion stays the same. Therefore, you cannot evolve into him. There is no 19 cost miinon
The minion cost 4 mana, so you get it from a 3 mana one.
The problem is that if you evolve into it, you get a 0/0 and it stays dormant. So it's a very very bad evolve, except if you run it too and get the candles in the opponents deck.
thx for your comment, kinda sad for the lost opportunity, but come to think about it - it would have been quite broken to summon a 20/20 with let's say Oaken Summons
can't wait for disguised toast to make a video about it
Wait, does silence work on this? I haven't experimented much with Sherazin, Corpse Flower...
No, a dormant minion cannot be interacted at all; it simply takes over a minion slot, but can't be interacted with any card in the game, even with Twisting Nether.

Counters Prince Valanar, makes it hard to work with Raza, endangers potential of Hemet, but seems possible to work around for Anduin decks.
Mill decks?
Every expasion we have the same claims.

This has to be the coolest thematic card in hearthstone history. If this doesnt have A+ animations imma be mad
This counters any deck that wants to draw through their deck quickly, so any miracle archetypes or even mill decks, fatigue warrior etc.
This is a useful tech card for many matchups and will stay useful in wild forever to keep draw heavy/highlander decks some kind of counterplay
This is ironic, doesn't Shadow Reaper Anduin say "Darkness speaks to me" when thinking? Is he taking bout this card?
1 question:
Can I cheat the dormant stage, if I use recruit or put him in e.g. Big Priest?
Does this become useless board presence if pulled by Dirty Rat, Ysaarj, Recruit, etc? Dormant forever if Battlecry never fires, right?

Finally a use for my golden Nat, the Darkfisher. Yayy..
