So, they are really pushing mage to only run expensive spells. It is just too bad Frostbolt, Primordial Glyph and secrets like Ice Block are the best cards the class has. I am not sold on this...
I would give those up to make one of the most OP boardwipes in the game, especially in Mage. It's going to be a stronger Dragonfire Potion in most cases. It will mean you have to run more early minions, but I think the trade off is well worth it.
If this was in any other class than the one that both already has access to good one-sided aoes like Blizzard and Flamestrike and has plenty of incredible cheap spells like Primordial Glyph, Frostbolt, Arcane Intellect, and all sorts of secrets...
It's a good card if it was available to non-mages, but I can't see wanting to build your mage deck around this card, and I can't see wanting to run this card if you can't rely on it being at least a 4 damage aoe either. Seems bad.

I agree. This card is trying to support this sort of high spell cost gameplay pretty well though at 5 mana. God knows you are gonna need a board wipe early cause without their cheap spells mage can't keep board early.
Anything 3+ is good for cost looking at history. But the question is for anything bigger, his mage getting enough big spells to support the archetype? What would you run in addition to compliment the maybe 15 potentially viable bigger spells?
right, and Ice block usage could be ameliorated with the 2/3 draw card. Limit to 2 ice blocks and that card... You'll probably get a good clear. Edit: maybe the 3 cost freeze?
Remember when one of Warlock's unique trait was that it has "Deal damage to ALL minions removal"? Yeah, that's gone now. Priest has a better Twisting Nether and Mage and Warrior have better Hellfire / Felfire Potion...
Btw, this is already good if it hits a 3 mana spell. That means apart from Frostbolt or Glyph you'll always go even.
First Psyquick scream is worse than twisting nether, and second, warrior don't have a felfire potion, because it can damage enemy face too
Did you mean to say better than twisting nether ? Plays around deathrattles, plays around combos, plays around draw, can be comboed with tokens to really mess peoples decks up.
In a big spell mage this is an amazing card and time will tell if that deck sees play. But as long as Primordial Glyph is an auto include there will always be a risk of this being a more expensive Volcanic Potion. But even pulling Fireball makes it a discounted Flamestrike, and the possible high roll is super worth it... for me, its just this side of playable- almost very good.
Primordial glyph is not an autoinclude... if you look at the statistics for having played it it actually has a terrible played win rate. Obviously statistics can lie, because sometimes you save it and play it when you are in a losing position and looking for an answer, but it's not as good as people think it is. the highrolly nature of it has created some confirmation bias around it.
Busted. This is an OP card will cause a lot of outcry.
Mage with small minions and big spells will be a thing, small minions for early game and mid-late game to hit the enemy's face with spells. You can only heal that much. Might be a good elemental/big spells deck coming for Mage.
Yeah, I think this is getting hyped by people who haven't thought it all the way through.
It is inconsistent, which means that you run the risk of blowing 5 mana and not clearing, which is a losing proposition in most cases where you'd be willing to play this card. "Run only big spells" is the general response. So you're increasing the number of small minions you're running to give you some chance of surviving the early game. Whelp, they're all dead to this card. This is not a five mana Flamestrike. Flamestrike leaves your board up. If anything this is closer to Brawl which seems like a good thing, but only due to the fact that warrior hasn't had any other 1 card clears. And the random element often screws you. Want to run it with [card]Dragoncaller Alanna[/card] and [card]Deck of Wonders[/card]? Congratulations, the RNG gods smile on you and you survive to turn nine, filling your board with 5/5s. Beginning of turn 10, you draw one of the three Scroll of Wonder, it auto-casts Dragon's Fury and, since you cleverly filled your deck with 5+ mana spells, you no longer have a board.
Go you.
People are saying "RIP Holy Wrath like this is an upgrade. Holy Wrath is targetable, and draws you a card. If this drew the card it revealed, it would be brokenly awesome. As it is, it is an arena card, and a nerf to Glyph, Book, and all the other Mage random spell generation cards.
Tried my hand into some theorycrafting.
I think we have plenty of cards to make multiple Big Spell mages.
Here's my tip.
In this, I use Dragon's Fury as a replacement for Flamestrike.

If it hits something 4 or better it's well worth it.
Control Mage is back!
You know that person you play in arena that gets to draft 3-4 Flamestrikes. Yeah he just drafted a Dragon's Fury too!
Oh, and by 'you' I really mean Kripp!

So many board clears coming... tough life for minion-based decks in new meta?

Take a look at my card creations here in vojza's mini expansion topic.
Should have been a druid card so I can run this with my double Ultimate Infestation
They are really pushing big spell mage, but i can’t really think of minions to replace the lower cost spells. We’ll see after the expansion releases
And i don’t even play Paladins
ohhh yes. i cant wait for harry potter mage
