That one card destroys 6 enemy minions. There is not a single card in the game so far that has that level of enemy-only board clear, and you can 1) run more than one in your deck and 2) pull multiples from Mimic Pod or Thistle Tea. Hell, you don't even need Valeera, you can just play two from Mimic or Tea.
I know it sounds insane, but I honestly think it could be one of the best Spellstones so far.
Umm Twisting Nether, Doom, Brawl, Psychic Scream, Anduin, and I'm sure I'm missing some. None of those require you to stack your deck with garbage either, let alone play said garbage first.
But here's the difference: those are board clears. This is enemy-only clear (in the vein of say Lightning Storm), which means your minions can keep on truckin' after you've wiped their board.
remeber, it says "play" and not "summon" to upgrade. there is synergy with deathrattles and shadowdancer/shadowmancer, cheat death, shadowstep. but not synergy with illusionist, nzoth, etc.
Problem is, you need at least 10 deathrattle minions if not more in your deck to be consistently able to upgrade it. Deathrattle rogue has never really been a competitive deck either. It is also a tempo deck and your only form of late-game survival are jades, so if your opponent has board control by turn 10 you're gonna struggle reclaiming it. The card is really strong, but I don't think it fits the archetype.

You aren't wrong, but that is a lot of death rattles that must be played while this is in hand. Draw it too soon and it's just sitting there, in your hand, for a long while. Draw it too late you may not have enough deathrattle to upgrade it. I will definitely play around with it but It requiring you to PLAY as many death rattles as the priest quest (which allows for summons) while not even being able to guarantee this is in your hand is going to be tough.

True my dude. But the Mana requirement to actually achieve the scenario you painted is like 40+. Ten for the 2 spellstones, 9 for Valeera and what ever deathrattle cards you decide to play. This card is a value nightmare. Even assassinate could be considered better since it's targeted and has no prerequisites.
Edit: forgot to mention that even if you do have minions on the board they'll probably be cleared on your Valeera turn.
dunno why blizzard wants rogue to play deathrattles so hard.. dunno how it fits rogue anyway.. battlecries, and sneaky stuff with combos fit more.. deathrattle.. no..
6 deathrattles is a LOT (see: priest quest which is also SUMMON and not play) this card is really bad ATM unless deathrattle rogue is good in the 1.5 years to come..
but seems REALLY bad.. the first version is bad (assassinate see no play and it's a worse deadly shot), even the third one could be not good enough.. think they should've gone with 4 random minions or wipes the board by how hard is to play 6 dr minions.. WHILE this is in your hand..
Why hunter need only to play 1 secret, warrior equip a single weapon but rogue have to play almost half of the minions on deck to upgrade this thing? This is awful garbage, totally unplayable and disgusting trash.
Blizzard want to rogue use neutral stuff forever.
What? Rogue decks have traditionally been made up of mostly rogue cards because of their spells. Sure, Keleseth has a ton of neutrals but that's been out for like 3 months. Besides, rogue was given a ton of really solid cards already this expansion, unlike in many other expansions. No need to be overdramatic.
EDIT: As for this card, I don't think it's really any good. Playing 6 deathrattles isn't difficult, but playing 6 with this in your hand is far too hard. Its only shot is in a jade deck with things like Zola, Sonya, Cheat Death, Shadowcaster and Journey Below being continually used on Jade Swarmers/Aya so that you can play cheap deathrattles while still building a board.
Well, now I hope in the remaining cards there’s some cheap deathrattle effects ... but still not bad in a control style rogue. Definitely will try, but also definitely not the best out there.
I would learn really love a good 3 mana death rattle.
I am picturing a jade rogue deck with this card, carnivorous cube, death knight card, and perhaps the new secret that makes you stay alive for 2 extra turns. Between Valeera and the secrets that is 3 turns of stall, perhaps time to find your N’Zoth develop your cube for really big Deathrattle plays. This card could give even more stall, jade rogue may be a viable ladder deck, though im still hoping for a priest tech card in the last few reveals to make that matchup winnable
6,9 or 12 i think you need more deathrattle minions. What happen if spellstones come at last card or not in your hand at starting point? I think you need more deathrattle to complete this stone quest for sure
people come on this is not used against aggro decks this is for control decks and things like jade. Vilespine is fine but its not always enough
Jade is the only place it fits right now for sure. Even then there are a grand total of 3 deathrattles in there. 2 Jade swarmers and Aya Blackpaw. I suppose you can bolster that number by adding Journey Below or Undercity huckster. Even then though, and this is my biggest issue, swarmers and huckster are cards you want to play early, meanwhile you don't want this late game removal card just sitting in your hand early. Which essentially leaves you with Aya or perhaps something you discovered from Journey Below. On top of that you have to actually "play" the deathrattles. If it was summon then I can see it having some good synergy with N'zoth.
Given all that, Jade isn't good right now, and if some weird jade/token rogue gets good I don't know if it'll run this or not but I doubt it.
Not only used WITH jades but I meant against them. But yeah thats the only thing I dont like. There arent many really good deathrattle cards without sacrificing stats. They should add more that doesn't completely suck

There's something important you have to note with Lesser Onyx Spellstone: it cost 5 mana.
I know that sounds dumb, but the reason that's significant is this. Turn 9, Valeera the Hollow. Untargetable. Turn 10, Lesser Onyx Spellstone + Lesser Onyx Spellstone.

That new Warlock one that discards your hand too.

would have been good for tempo if not upgraded by secrets. will just have to wait and see, I guess.

Dude I love this card.
Obviously only play it in a death rattle heavy deck but kill 3 enemy minions is insane.
yeah vile spine is good, you get a 3/4 you can return it to hand, you can target.
But with 3 kills you don't need to target at all, and you don't need to combo.
Plus if it's a death rattle deck its not like you need the body that badly, and its harder to combo, especially on turn 5 when you run more minions.
Still unsure how Rogue has deathrattle as a theme. The deck hasn't been good since Raptor left, but the fact that this can be prepped makes it decent.
Carpe Diem - Seize the day
The base version is a deadly shot at 5 mana aka unplayable.
The card itself isn't terrible but I don't see raptor rogue comming back because of this. So it's probably going to see no play.
