Either Blizzard is trying to resurrect Totemic Shaman or they're just giving us the one expansion where Shaman gets shitty cards that we've been asking for for years now. But anyways, although this card has some slight synergy with Evolve and could just be a tool to use in combination with the new Shaman epic minion, its stats are trash and the summoned totem probably won't do too much alongside it. You could drop a scummy spell power totem to combo with a spell or Spirit Claws, you could drop a Taunt totem as a last-ditch defense, but it likely won't have too much of an impact in any case.

You high or something? Shaman hasn't gotten good cards except in LoE and TGT.

What do you mean only in LoE and TGT? The cards Shaman got from WoG, namely Evolve, Thing from Below, Master of Evolution, made it the best class in the game, in case you forgot, and after Karazhan the gain of Spirit Claws and Maelstrom Portal only buffed that state up. Gadgetzan brought it Jade Claws, all the Jade Cards, White Eyes and Jinyu Waterspeaker. Un'Goro gave it Volcano, one of the best board clears in the game, as well as Kalimos, Primal Lord and the best Elemental deck until DK Mage stepped on the scene. In KFT, Thrall, Deathseer exponentially raised the power of Evolve Shaman decks. Though that was one of the only good cards Shaman got that expansion, the push for Freeze Shaman totally failed on Blizzard's part.
Now, don't get the wrong idea, I know Shaman isn't in the best state right now and a lot of those aforementioned cards have fallen out of viability in the current state. But if you actually look back and remember Shaman's history of being a viable class in Hearthstone, you'd understand why people have wanted Shaman to fall out of power. And even if it did fall out of power before this, jumping to the brainless conclusion that Shaman hasn't had (what was considered) good cards since TGT is a massive oversight.
why is this rated so average? Imho that's a great card. The choose effect makes it great and you get a 'free' 1/1 too. 2 minions which also get supported by flame tongue totem. I like it

Just because shaman gets 1 or 2 good cards per expansion you cant really consider it shaman getting overall good treatment in the expansion. I admit I mixed Karazhan and LoE a bit. Half of those cards have not even been played in meta decks as shaman has lacked the supportive early-game cards since Totem golem left. Shaman had an era where face / aggro worked as S tier but if you count that (about 1 year I think?) out, only other top meta deck is evolve which is based on broken combo on doppelgangster. I personally wouldn't call that shaman getting good cards in the recent expansions (or give reason for others to be happy about shitty cards), but each to their own. =)
Been playing shaman since launch and most of the "glory" of the class is based on that face-shaman era that was cancerous to play. Shaman hasn't really had any good control deck since Crusher shaman back in Naxx, where it got rushed by Undertaker Hunter / Zoo. In the end I do recognize that I'm biased as F*ck, as I detest aggro/ face / evolve decks and wish control shaman would get good early game. Sadly that would buff aforementioned decks.

Hey man, I totally feel you. Control Shaman was always one of my favorite deck archetypes, and I was just sad that, as a F2P, I could never really rack up the dust or packs to build one of those decks. I suppose maybe Control Shaman will get its turn in the spotlight at some point, but for now I'll stick to supporting the push for every class to have their turn as top of the meta at least once. We had Hunter on top after Naxx, I can't really remember the strongest deck after GvG, Paladin after TGT, Shaman after WoG, Warrior after Gadgetzan, Rogue after Un'Goro (arguably), Druid after KFT and now Priest after the nerfs to Druid. If I missed anything in there, please let me know. For this expansion, I've got a feeling that Warlock could become the new top class in the meta. The most recent three cards all look super powerful.
That's it, I'm up front on the band wagon now. We already have a boring token deck! I liked the 5 drop even if it seemed pretty impractical, but wasting two cards on support, or for another token style, is disappointing.
I would love some totem thematic, but Spirit Echo already does the job Primal Talismans does. I had been considering the increased value of echoing totems being impactful due to Windshear Stormcaller so to me, except for token-evolve/bloodlust, Primal Talismans is sorta redundant. Kobold Hermit; A 1/1 increase on value for a deck spot is imo terrible, also boring, a waste of a class card...
And, what the hell is that Leg weapon?? Only Grumble offers some real interesting play potential. As ppl mentioned, what happened to Freeze?! Disappointing :/

We'll have to see what other sort of totem support we get, if any.

yes, you're right and I think/hope the reveal 36 hours away from now is a Totem? That gave me optimism when I saw it first, so too Windshear Stormcaller so maybe seeing the lame cards repeating Tuskar Totemic and Spirit Echo dampened spirits :)
That is also the biggest issue I have with windhshear stormcaller and the reason why I think he is bad: He needs already 4 totems on the board which doesn't leave much room for proper minions.
And to also contribute something to the topic: A 2 mana 1/1 that gives you a hero power of your choosing doesn't seem enough. If it would be 2/1, maybe. I think it's bad.
The price of a minion with a free hero power is 2-3 stats on a 1 mana card. Mage-elven archer hunter-leper gnome priest-voodoo doctor warlock-kobold librarian paladin-lost in the jungle rogue-nzoths first mate. So obviously this is extremely overcosted for just a free hero power, but it has the slight edge of letting you choose which totem, and that's comparable to a justicar hero power. So pretending that kobold hermit sets the standard for this price let's see how other cards would add up. Would you play 2 1/1 draw a card(warlock)? That's novice engineer, so no. How bout 2 1/1 deal 2 damage? Nope. How bout 2 1/1 restore 4 health? Nope. How bout 2 1/1 equip a 2/2? Maybe, but probably not because jade claws is a much better card. How bout 2 1/1 deal 3 damage to enemy hero? No way. How bout 2 1/1 summon 2 silver hand recruits? Definitely not, but definitely yes in a SHR deck but that's different because of the synergy. How bout 2 1/1 gain 4 armor? Nah. How bout 2 1/1 hero gains 2 attack and 2 armor? Nope. How bout 2 1/1 choose a totem? The answer is it's not good enough, so even though it's decent card it's just not on a high enough power level to see play.

Damn that's poorly stated. The only thing you could possibly consistently want is spell damage, and there are better minions for that.

Hmm... a choose-your-totem on a stick, ehr, body :P
Given Blizzard's penchant for RNG, I'm actually surprised ;)
More useless shaman cards... Really Blizzard, REALLY!?
It's your hero power with a free 1/1 but costs a card.
I guess it's nice you get to choose the totem, could be very important.
Actually, this is a 2 cost guaranteed spell damage, so there's that.

if you just have 2 basic totems up on the board, play this with Brann Bronzebeard then play Windshear Stormcaller to summon 2 free Al'Akir the Windlord
Good card, but the artwork is horrible. It looks more like a Horse in fact from now on I'm gonna call this My Little Kobold "Wax Bright"
