I was saying the same thing theres a blue post on redit forums a few pages back clearifys it as being free but doesnt trigger auctioneer or pyro mancer or anything else. The text on it is really unclear though. The idea behind it states that the cost on it is in response to cards like thought steal / devour mind ect so you couldnt play it for free with raza and anduin so they couldnt go down right bonkers on you and super otk you with shadowreaper. Which validly makes sense because shadowreaper anduin getting some 0 mana 4/4's they could cast and use there hero power additional times would just be extremely dangerous counter to playing this. Also in wild the intereaction with bran/shadow step could lead to some games where a thought steal or devour mind being used against you with 4-12 or whatever of those in your deck could basically give the game to shadow reaper late game if they got a dozen or so of them in hand that would be like kazakus / kazaus potion for 5 clear your board hit you for 4 already off the hero power now lets play 5-6 of these from hand for free and trigger the hell out of lyra or shadow reaper already in play.
In short the cost of this was made to off set throughtsteal or devour mind giving priest an advantage to counter this it is basically completely designed to counter priest. Having 4 attack and not making it free for thought steal or devour mind or any other steal a copy of a spell card in your deck cards.
The fact that it's a spell (not a minion) going into your deck also means that it can't be pulled by recruit effects or Barnes. That might actually be important.

With Hearthstone's consistency? Could mean any number of things. It has been clarified by Blizzard though, so we don't have to wonder about what it does anymore. The spiders are cast for free.
For instance, Ambush! doesn't even mention that you cast the card, and it has a cost of 0. Spider Ambush! is worded completely different, and has a mana cost of 4. No wonder people are disagreeing on what the text could have meant.
I think between this and the other options coming out this expansion miracle and tempo both actually will be in a pretty decient spot and have good options to combat the beef machine that is priest this expansion. This gets you over duskswalker clearing your board it combats psychic scream, while it doesnt answer dragonfire potion thought steal and devour mind cant take advantage of it well and shadowwords by themselves dont act as a great removal tool. Additionally with Gorgon and Shadowsinger as well as shadowstep and the new 2 cost secret there are lots of ways to get a second or third cast out this card so we may even see value rogue vs tempo or miracle or in wild a hybrid double ambush rogue countering raza while generating its own offense by a bombardment of 4/4's coming out of everywhere.
I could definately see double ambush mill rogue becoming a thing in wild. Using coldlights to generate insane 4/4 turns.
a card that really benefits from playing it several times. who needs all your minions to be 5/5's when your deck could potentially have like 18 4/4's that cost nothing?

Thanks for this explanation. Makes total sense. I just wish they would be more consistent with the rules and card text. To be fair, the text on Spider Ambush! is arguably better than Ambush!. The only word they omitted was "free".
The details about auctioneer/wild pyro not triggering is again inconsistent with how the card mentions that you cast it. Makes me think they need new words describing certain casting similar to how we have play/summon variations for minions.
Just went from a guy who basically never play Rogue, to a guy who will craft two of those cards and play Rogue on day one. I think Rogue may see some nerfs because of this one (if it doesn't get nerfed itself eventually). Heck, send it back in your hand once or twice after you attacked a lower health minion with it, and you're almost sure to get extra 4/4 almost every turns.
Sure, but Raza the Chained and Kazakus are only in Standard for 3 months after K&C come out. So why would we waste an entire card that's going to be in standard for a full year on countering a deck that's only around for one more set?

We have several cards spoiled so far that care about the cost of spells in your deck, like Spiteful Summoner. Having Spider Ambush! cost 4 is a buff to rogue in that regard, because rogues aren't allowed to have playable high cost spells due to Preparation.
As someone who loves Mill decks, this is beautiful.

I think this will lead to the development of a double ambush deck in wild with coldlights. Prep ambush 4 spiders for you. Now 4 spiders for me and cold light time lets start making drawing cards dangerous for you cause I could randomly end up with a full board of 4/4's and mess up your highlander deck.
Thx, I had not yet thought about bouncing or shadowing (making 1/1s) this :) you can stuff your deck with these ambushes and then load up the board with spiders... I will have so much fun with that!!
with shadowcaster and bounce effects and sonya, gorgon, xaril return potion and whatnot you can potentialy abuse the shit out of this card and fill the board with spiders for 2-3 turns continiously. But then again: Flamestrike, Dragonfire Potion, etc.

It actually doesn't say anywhere that Spider Ambush! is free. If it cost 4 mana as it seems, this card is not as crazy as it first appears.To compare, Ambush! actually had a 0 mana cost.Edit: Just saw Mike Donais clarified that it is indeed cast for no mana. Could be clearer imo though.
