CotW was typically face damage. 5 GRANTED face damage, with bonus board.
Kathrena will not be consistent as finisher, at all.
Pre-nerf CotW and Kathrena just share similarities about board presence, but that's it.
Not comparable in their usage.
Why won't she be consistent? You can only have 2 CotW. You can have 3 Kathrena. (herself + 2 seeping oozeling) and you can 100% guarantee (and I mean 100% including bad draw order) that she will summon a charging beast that does more damage than huffed.
The struggle with Kathrena is less about how you can/can't stack the deck to optimize her and more about how alley cat into crackling razormaw into a houndmaster will still lead to more wins than any turn 8 play with Kathrena.

You still run alleycat+razormaw+houndmaster. Check out the screen in main post

No you don't because Duskbreaker will eat you alive. Aggro is gone man, is all about late game.

Sure, only since 5 expansions that i read this.
Aggro is gone though. For the first time it actually happened, there are literally no decently competitive aggro decks in the current meta. You might lose to a Warrior here and there but overall they've dropped off massively.

Aggro druid is tier2 right now. Tempo decks are aggro decks with a nice name too.

you play her in a new deck with charged devilsaurs and highmanes for maximum potency then this card is bonkers.. you need to rework the hunter early game, which blizzard stated they will help with this expansion..
on the other hand looking at crushing walls I am not optimistic.
there's a current memey deck "egg hunter" you can fit her there adding those late game options of charged devilsaurs and stuff and just call it "devilsaur hunter" katherina is the finisher summoning chargers.

Fair enough. But aggro druid, tempo rogue and whatever aggro/face/midrange hunter just die to the new K&C control tools. Horribly.
Tempo decks are not aggro decks, they're board control decks that aim to end the game earlier, if you're playing a tempo deck like an aggro deck, well, you're going to lose.

Obviously the game plan is different, but you want to kill your opponent early enough. You play pirates, you play bonemares, and so on. You only do essential trades to stay ahead on board and then you SMOrc. For sure you don't play the control game. You want the board like an early hunter game, but the hunter is considered SMOrc
Turn 8 is not too late for Midrange, but they can't play anything slow on that turn. It needs to push you to you goal of killing. In the past we saw Call of the Wild and Rag in that spot, which tried to push the last bit that's left of your opponent. Kathrena just doesn't provide this, unless you can guarantee a high impact Beast. Maybe with Hemet, Jungle Hunter.
This.
Even MR decks which are cheated towards aggro - like Murloc Paladin - regularly play games well past turn ten, and win them. Greedy MR decks, on the other hand, are purposely built with an eye towards going past turn ten, especially in Wild.
People comparing this to CotW (8) are mad. That card gave huge tempo, was consistent, and the meta was totally different. CotW gave all it's value now, not spread over 3 turns. You are not guaranteed to get the deathrattle of Kat at all.
Kat excludes the use of some of the best minions (Razormaw or Grandma for example) unless you want an overcosted Faceless Summoner. Summoning a 3/x is not okay for that mana, nor at that stage in the game.

On turn 8 you care less about razormaw effect. Summon a 6-6 deathrattle and a 3/x is even. If you highroll you summon a 6-6 deathrattle and a savannah...
this card is for another type of deck. It's for Devilsaur Egg abuse deck, with stiched trackers, deathrattle triggers, mb few elementals (fireflies, tar creepers, etc) and few huge beasts. (idealy crush, dred and 2xhighmanes or charged devilsaurs)
But then there is another problem: you should draw Kat before you got this huge beasts in hand, because they are few, and they must remain in deck in the moment Kat is played.
Also Tracking can fuck up this game plan heavily (if you have to choose between Kat and 2 huge beasts)
The more i think of it the less appealing this legendary seems to me. Swap King Dread is okay legendary for hunter, but this one - I have serious doubts.
I've built a deck to expain my purpose: LINK . A solid deck, with no exploited mechanics. Only a base. Cobalt Scalebanes are not core cards, but i like them. You can consider something else.
It's not used because it's a single target! Why do you play savannah highmane and think that it's one of the best card in the game? It's a 6 mana 6-5 ... slow for hunter. Or not? :)
You forgot the other half of the card. It also has a deathrattle that will keep up the pressure once it dies.
It's like saying "Why do you play Tirion Fordring and think that it's one of the best cards in the game? It's a 8 mana 6/6 with divine shield"
Ignoring half the card makes you evaluate it wrongly.
Yead dude i was ironic
Maybe don’t do that again on the internet unless you are actually making sure people can read you were being sarcastic (not ironic) ;)

I really do not think a Control Hunter is as far out as people think at the moment. You can mess around with slow hunter builds in wild with surprising success, but cards like Mad Scientist and Quick Shot are missing from standard and they help smooth the early game over a lot. Still I think we will have a couple months here before the next rotation in which a version of Control Hunter isn't horrible, but definitely not close to a S tier deck.
An example of what I think can work is included below. Wandering Monster is only in there because I want to test how often does it equal the value of Cat Trick since it is less likely to dilute the beast pool to resummon from. This is the same reason Animal Companion and Call of the Wild are not included.
