ice barrier isn't such a great card outside of freeze mage/quest mage decks that try to stall the game.. if this card sees play it will be in a big spells/elemental mage which this card and the other one revealed today seem to suggest.
the point is if you don't use the elemental part of the card and even then it's probably a tech against aggressive decks.
Still don't get it, do you? You are going to see the card pop up a lot more than you used to. Ice Barrier is now borderline OP in those decks and players using the Artificer/Ice Barrier combo are going to be popping up like weeds.
Okay, man, just build a deck with Arcane Artificer and Ice Barrier, but no other elementals and show it to us. If it happens to be good in any way, your point will be proven.
Very interesting card. I like the concept of it, life is something I want to gain more of when I play elemental mage. Not sure its better than firefly though. Might experiment with it, doubt I'll keep it in.
I don't understand why Ice Block should sent to the hall of fame. Just mean that you have to kill mage one turn earlier as expected. As many other decks where just one turn for your opponent reduce your winning chances.
Like I said, you're correct. But... usually, you need healing in the mid-game, not late-game. And 1/2 for 1 even with this ability isn't good enough to include in Control Mage without going all in on elementals.
Why don't you just play Ice Barrier instead? It's almost guaranteed to work on its own. AND it can be drawn basically for free from Arcanologist.

Because it depends on your deck. If you're playing Secret Mage, most of your spells like Ice Barrier will only heal you for 3.
If you're playing Control/Late Mage, you will be playing big spells; and in retro with Arcane Artificer you have MUCH more potential than Ice Barrier which will only be a static 8.
Right now streamers like Disguisedtoast, Kripp, Brian Kibler, Firebat, Dog all have said this card is amazing and you will be seeing it frequently.
This guy is super powerful in the late game. Drop him then meteor/blizzard and play a secret. You've now wiped or at the least frozen their board and gained 9 armor with another turn to gain more unless they use removal on it.
He's been doing a great job of keeping me alive in this elemental deck I've been playing

Yeah. Because they're trying to play Dragon's Fury Mage. Which is somewhat playable. Of course there you DON'T want to play any spell that is cheaper than 5 mana. Except for Ice Block. Probably.
But in any other scenario, it's just not good enough/worse than Ice Barrier.

You're underestimating all the possible scenarios and its full potential. This card has a lot of advantage with any deck with several +5 mana spells in your deck. Don't forget: Ice Barrier is a static 8. Always 8. Only 8. Not with Arcane Artificer the possibilities are limitless and frequent enough.
The majority of the community here including tournament players are on the same boat of how strong it can be.
So depending on how the meta plays it; either we overestimated this card or you underestimated it
It's not about the meta. You cannot win by healing most of the time anyway. So what is the point? The absolute maximum "value" that you can get from it in 1 turn is (obviously) 9 armor. Crazy, right?
But... if this little guy survives for another turn... you're probably winning.
Do you remember Paladin's DK, Uther of the Ebon Blade? It can win by pressing Hero Power for 4 turns. If they do that, they actually WIN the game. Where are all these crazy DKs? Oh, even they are in the dumpster.

"Its not about the meta"...
Of course it needs to be considered. Certain cards flucuate based on current meta; hence, "Most effective tactic available".
This card is not about "healing to win the game" or only being able to gain 9 armor if it only survives one turn. That's not the purpose of the card.
Its allows you to multitask effectively playing your spells to clear the board or gain cards WHILE gaining potentially much more armor than Ice Barrier.
Many situations you arent able to use your spell to clear the board AND play Ice Barrier while Arcane Artificer allows you to.
Not only does this card potentially give you double, triple the armor from Ice Barrier its cheaper, and allows you to play spells you couldnt have.
And why are you bringing up Uther of the Ebon Blade? That card has nothing remotely close to what we're discussing or the same feedback from community and tournament players.
I'm not sure why you're against 90% of the poll.
Ice Barrier is good only in Secret or Exodia mage. Otherwise why would any other archetype just run one Ice Barrier thats a static 3 for 8 armor when you can run this alongside your other spells to potentially get in much more armor and much more quicker.
There's also a little guy Eater of Secrets thats rising back up thanks to Hunters and Mages; dont forget about that.
All that I'm saying is "this card isn't good by itself, it demands combination with something else because you can't just play it prematurely and hope that it survives until your big play, and even if it all works out, basically you gained as much health as if you just played Ice Barrier or even less".
Eater of Secrets? Whatever, you have multiple secrets. They, on the other hand, don't have even 1 Eater of Secrets. Usually. But more importantly... you're unable to search for Arcane Artificer. And it actually costs you a card slot. Unlike Ice Barrier, which is somewhat "free" if you run Arcanologist. And usually, you do.

Do you replace Mana Wyrm with this in an elemental deck? You might.
Hmm... Playable. Kinda hard to imagine how this'll fit the elemental theme since there are good 1 or 2 drops for mages already.
The beginning of the end of Ice Block.
This card is terrible. It's a 1 mana 12 which doesn't help vs aggro and will gain less armor than barrier. Useless card.

This card is crazy nuts late game.

I mentioned Uther of the Ebon Blade only because of all this "unlimited potential" speech about Arcane Artificer. I'm not against everyone in this poll.
