Ok so I understand this nerf from the pirate warrior view point. However, when you consider control warrior an already pretty weak deck in the current meta.This kills control warrior. This is gonna make warrior super weak and pirate warrior is still gonna be strong with or with out the war axe.
What do I do to survive against aggressive decks as a control warrior now? The only way I could live through pirates or Hunter or token decks was to get war axe in my opening hand. I don't see how the deck can survive this change, there is nothing to keep me alive in the early turns now.
Less fiery war axe=more jade druid.its simple as that
And then Skulking Geist starts appearing with a vengeance and consumes all the Jade Idol cards in Jade Druid decks.
Aggro Druid, Murloc Paladin and Pirate Warrior were part of the reason why it wasn't played as much. Now that a few key cards of those decks have been nerfed, you are going to see a lot more of the Geist in future games.
He's already affected Jade Druids this expansion - a lot less Jade Druids run Gadgetzan Auctioneer because of his arrival. The card is good enough to keep Druids in check.
I think I've been on one side or the other of a jade druid match where skulking geist is played about 5 times. In every game (whether I'm jade druid or playing against it), the geist has made no difference and jade druid has won regardless.
Geist seemed like the answer but it really really really isn't. Unless you're playing super long-game control Warrior, Mage or Paladin, and Warrior just got smashed.
I have the same opinion as many others here. If the nerf is due Pirate Warrior than it was a stupid pick, because it effects all other Warrios, too. The card was perfectly before PW was possible and no one complained about it.
I think it was a pro-active change, similar to Hex, to hit a card that was in /every/ warrior deck and probably one of the strongest cards in it. I don't think they want cards of the basic set to have that much power, as it limits future design space. They literally can not create a 2 (or 3) cost mana weapon that will ever compete with FWA, or else it'll be insanely overpowered.
I like the change, not from a balance perspective, but from a general health of the game perspective. FWA was just too good and nothing would ever compete with it.
Came back to hearthstone after a 2 months break, crafted DK warrior because i loved the idea of control warrior coming back. Didn't spend money once, got punished. I would even prefer it to be 3/1, or give some armor, but now it will be the most useless weapon ever.
sooo... the Hearthstone team comes to the room and discusses what decision they have to make (overpowered druid pushes pirate warriors to the ladder) - how would they end up with a conclusion like these nerfs? Don't they know that there are other Warrior decks possible to create? If they want to nerf pirate, nerf the fucking pirate stuff or don't allow the Axe to go face.
I feel like they had Wild in mind with this nerf. Basically, Pirate will be T1 in wild for forever. This helps.
I don't mind having basic cards that are outclassed bye expac cards. That's the way it should be, honestly. Also, now there's room for different low mana warrior weapons.
I was extremely happy to see winaxe nerfed. Pirate warrior is a big problem, especially in wild and this tones down pirates considerably. You are more likely to survive to turn 6 for reno as well.
Just crafted golden Nzoth control in Wild, but without axe CW is not playable, you can't stand against aggro without this, Mana wyrm, tunnel trogg, priests cleric turn 1 is uncounterable now
You don't have to counter them till turn 3. Cleric does nothing if your side of the board is empty. Trogg isn't run much. Wyrm is strong, but you can trade into it with a 2 or 3 drop.

Run other early game tech cards, like ooze, crab, mixtures, armorsmith, etc.

The nerf was complete nonesense. They just added one more mana because Pirate Warrior but didn´t give any effect like EVERY SINGLE 3 MANA 3/2 WEAPON IN THE GAME. This is the worst weapon for Warrior now and yet another wortless card for the basic set.
Blizzard is destroying their owngame, because they are destroying class identity. How many class have 3/2 3 mana weapon now? And Druid and Rogue all have the Coin card, just differrent name? Come on blizzard.

Be honest: Do you actually see the weapon buffs outside of Pirate Warrior? Now Control and Quest Warriors have no reason to use this card anymore since there are better 3 drop weapons.

Unfair change, control warrior was tier 2 deck, and it has no answer against aggro turn 2 now, seems legit.
It wasnt even great for control, only usefull early and never near close to op.
I find it funny how priest and mage decks remain the same. Applause.
