As Reynad noted in his set review of Knights of the Frozen Throne, there has never been a better time in the game to play a 2 mana 2/3. 2 mana 2/3s are good enough because A) Zoo has been terrible for ages, so no one is running Flame Imp and B) between Leper Gnome, Abusive Sergeant, Possessed Villager, Alleycat and Jeweled Macaw, almost every 1 drop you face isn't going to hurt your 2/3 while being easily killed by it.
With that in mind, Warrior can easily play cards like Friendly Bartender or Sunfury Protector as a 2 drop, with Sunfury Protector getting no value off the Battlecry and only having the Battlecry in case you draw it in the late game.
I feel like they had Wild in mind with this nerf. Basically, Pirate will be T1 in wild for forever. This helps.
I don't mind having basic cards that are outclassed bye expac cards. That's the way it should be, honestly. Also, now there's room for different low mana warrior weapons.
I was extremely happy to see winaxe nerfed. Pirate warrior is a big problem, especially in wild and this tones down pirates considerably. You are more likely to survive to turn 6 for reno as well.
Just crafted golden Nzoth control in Wild, but without axe CW is not playable, you can't stand against aggro without this, Mana wyrm, tunnel trogg, priests cleric turn 1 is uncounterable now
You don't have to counter them till turn 3. Cleric does nothing if your side of the board is empty. Trogg isn't run much. Wyrm is strong, but you can trade into it with a 2 or 3 drop.
What do I do to survive against aggressive decks as a control warrior now? The only way I could live through pirates or Hunter or token decks was to get war axe in my opening hand. I don't see how the deck can survive this change, there is nothing to keep me alive in the early turns now.
Run other early game tech cards, like ooze, crab, mixtures, armorsmith, etc.

Hunter is unplayable and this nerf will shut down pirate warrior and control warrior. You also seem to think that tunnel trogg is not run in wild anymore which is totally wrong, aggro shaman is still a good deck. Also control warrior doesn't have room to run garbage like crabs and mixtures in their deck. This card made control warrior a deck in the past because it was able to stop snowballing happen. The real cards that needed to be nerfed were not the classic cards but pirates such as patches, first mate or upgrade. Hunter is absolute garbage in this meta and it doesn't run bow because it is good, one reason why hunter is bad in standard is because it doesn't have its 2 mana staple weapon gaivezooka. FWA didn't deserve this and it is all because people wine about their 2 drop getting killed by a good weapon. This game needs counter play and blizzard doesn't seem to understand that. Reactive cards are worse than proactive cards by nature and should be cheaper than the minion that they are reacting to. A 4 mana 77 is better than hex because you can play it more often, a hex is not always good hence why these reactive cards need to be better. Questions are universal but answers are specific.

Just a hunch but I'm guessing they wanted basic weapons with no text and that they'll print another 2 mana 3-2 weapon but which can't attack heroes. Would be a decent solution.
this card saw enough play tho Pirate warrior was pain in the ass just because of they were able to buff fiery war axe this nerf will solve the problem and delay pirate warrior but they would also prevent it by nerfing some of the weapon buff cards.
Worst of the changes by far. They nerfed Excecute to stop midrange warrior (which ended up just nerfing CW because midrange rotated out anyway) and now they nerfed Win Axe to stop pirate warrior (which will just end up killing CW)..
Everyone who thinks that this was a good nerf just thinks about pirate warrior or have no idea about CW. As a CW you usually lost about 75% of the games against aggro in which you didn't draw Win Axe in time.. Now you will never draw Win Axe in time -> If they would have given warrior an replacement tool it would be fine but since they didn't they just killed of CW without any real reason. (it's not like CW was even nearly a top deck in this meta)
Yeah, small nerf to pirate warrior too, whatever.. There would have been so many ways to do this without killing a great archetype.

This is the only nerf that is unnecessary and unjustified. The other 4 changes are understandable, but this one just comes out of nowhere, serving no purpose whatsoever. Warrior is supposed to be the weapon class, but now Fiery War Axe becomes the weakest of all 3/2 weapons.

So I play some exotic warri decks and I enjoy it pretty much, it's like 13 of my 18 decks are just different kind of warri decks and literally everyone of these decks is nerfed now.. and for my main deck I have no idea how I can replace this card. You just can't do that.. even if some people say this card is overpowered it's a card who makes the warri viable in this actually unbalanced meta. If you start nerfing cards which find plays in every deck start at the Northshire Cleric, Equality/Consecration, Fireball etc. other cards from other classes are huge too.. and are also basic cards..
The only question I got after the nerf is: How do you play the Fiery War Axe without feeling sorry for yourself?

Atleast add a effect u idiots, you could have given it a defensive effect that wont help pirate warrior but still would be good in control warrior... btw warrior does not have a single good weapon now beside Gorehowl which is unplayable.

Warrior has Cornered Sentry and Armorsmith, both are acceptable 2 drops.

A nerf to FWA is good, but if they are going to make it three mana they should at least give it some kind of marginal effect.

CW can try and use Doomsayer instead of Axe.

This pretty much means that Warrior is dead, Rexxar is not at the rock bottom anymore.

The card was only a real problem in pirate warrior - the nerf should have been that it can't target face, but still costs 2
