This is still playable, considering how Paladin can run their almost identical weapon without having any Divine Shield synergy. However it will still be a terrible card that you won't be too happy about running, so basically on an appropriate power level for a non-rotating card.
The problem with this nerf is that now Control Warrior has almost no 2-drops, In my opinion Blizzard should do this nerf along with a buff to Slam to make it deal 3 damage, something so CW isn't left dead in the water. The deck was punished enough by the Execute nerf.
Other classes play those weapons with the sole purpose of better protecting their early game minions. War has ever used Fiery War Axe AS their early game (I'm talking about non-Pirate War)... so no, it won't be playable for every warrior ever. Maybe paradoxically PW will still play it since its a 3 dmg weapon that sinergizes with the deck the same as before.
Control Paladin often runs Rallying Blade to deal with early threats like Fledgling or Warleader, not to build a board. The new War Axe certainly won't be playable in every Warrior deck, but it will be a viable option in Control Warrior in lack of better options. Pirate Warrior is probably just dead since not having a turn 2 War Axe seriously screws with their entire curve, not to mention their ability to win the board reliably.

This is a great change. After all, adding "Can't attack heroes" to a basic card would be FAR too confusing for new players, who would immediately quit the game because they could not read 3 words and understand them.
Anyway, incoming Epic next set: 2 mana 3/2 warrior weapon.

It is uncalled for, and the collateral damage to the rest of the decks that utilize this card for early minion removal rather than just going face(the regular pirate smorc warrior approach) get punished. I would not mind a change that someone else has mentioned here, in which it can only be used against minions. It reduces the flexibility of the card by removing one of the two options, to push for face damage and seems like a legit nerf, since their excuse is to tone down the Pirate Warrior. Pirate warrior players won't include a weapon that can't go face as they use it more often than not to go face.

Warrior has 2 mana taunts or doomsayer for anti aggro anyway, this will hurt pirate scum the most. Also opens up more use for king's defender and blood razor since it's not a must-include anymore.
But wouldn't a "can't attack heroes" or at least make it a 1/2 +2 damage vs minions instead of completely destroying it been a better choice?
So.. Rallying blade 3mana 3/2 give your divine shild minions +1 / +1 ok eaglehorn bow. 3 mana 3/2 get 1 charge for secret activated... ok War Axe. 3mana 3/2 nothing... King's Defender it is then.
by that logic nerf all basic cards. for example mage basic fireball 4mana 6 damage, mortal strike is 4 mana 4damage (situationally 6) and is a rare classic set card. an for all the noobs crying about pirate warrior. just add a couple taunts or an ooze/crab tech cards and learn to use them proper. a tar creeper can even slow down the entire pirate deck not to mention the (even nerfed still little difference) swarming plague that single handedly can stall any aggro deck enough for the druid to stabilize. I will admit as a f2p the only deck I got that can win games is pirate warrior (im not the idiot to waste weapons on face damage when trading is needed) but the win axe nerf is also a heavy nerf to all other warriors (control/tempo) . the only other 2drop control warrior has is armorsmith
I'm strongly in favor of this nerf. It could auto win games for control warrior and allowed pirate warrior too much control when they should be a bit more flimsy if their early game is lost.

Yhahah that's a good point. Warrior the master of weapons now has the worst three mana cost weapon in the game. Im saddened by this so much. I'm a control warrior guy and have never even once played pirate so this really rustles my jimmies.

Or at least bring it a 2 mana 3/1 or 4/1. Like a frostbolt for war.
