exactly as I predicted, this card was super overrated. a 9 mana 5/3 lifesteal weapon is just not that good. It's nice, and the lifesteal + armor can stabilize you in some cases, but it's by no means "meta defining."

I was with you in thinking that it was definitely being overrated. But I honestly believe a lot of the reason it sees so little play is because Control Paladin is bad this meta.

This one I will give you credit for. Not as good as I hoped. Still wrong about Benedictus though.

Totally agree. I struggle to think of any deck in the meta that Control Pally's game plan is good against. Even post-nerf aggro is fast enough to catch it if Pally gets an at all difficult draw.
Who knows, we still have basically a year and a half for DK Uther to hang around. Although the fact that he's going to be in lockstep with DK Anduin makes it seem pretty unlikely that the Apocalypse win condition will ever be viable.

lawl. Sure, I'll keep it on topic since I can actually admit when I was wrong.
But to parrot the thoughts of 1xbenx1 and Craptasm, He isn't good because control paladin isn't good. Everyone else's control game is just better. The thing that control decks have done in this meta is that they have clear cut win conditions that are very difficult to stop. Fatigue warrior has a clear cut win condition. Shadow Reaper and Bloodreaver are clear closers. The win condition that Uther proivdes relies on a pretty specific deck set up that sacrifices some control tools to try and pull off a single turn kill, which is the only real reliable way to pull off a win through horsemen. It's a difficult combo to set up, too difficult against the withering fire of Shadowreaper, dealing with ever growing and increasing Jade board, or the board flood and ridiculous HP that bloodreaver provides. That being said, if control paladin becomes good at some point in the future, I expect to see this card quite often.

I never said the card was bad, I said it was overrated. It's not meta defining and it never will be, because a 9 mana 5/3 lifesteal weapon is only medium value, and is not good enough to be a win condition (contrast this to Shadowreaper Anduin, which IS an actual win condition).
The combo is clunky and unless very specific cards are revealed in the future, it won't be a win condition in standard either.

Okay? I agree. Since I basically said the same things as you have here. Albeit after the fact. Not sure if you are trying to make a counter point or not. In any case, as far as cards being released in the future, well yeah. Something that enables getting all four horsemen is the obvious thing here, though the less likely in my opinion. This is because it's an auto win, further enabling a straight up, un -counterable (or nearly so) auto win seems unlikely. It's difficulty in setting it up is the only thing that keeps it in check at the moment and buffering down that difficulty seems like a bad idea.
The issue here is that control paladin isn't good, and it isn't good because it doesn't have a clear cut win condition and UotEB doesn't help to really give them one without sacrificing a number of control cards. So if the next set has a solid win condition that fits well into control paladin then this card will see play. The 5/3 lifesteal weapon plus the armor, plus the 2/2 dude will be valued for stabilization and trade/removal bait.
absent something very unhealthy, UoteB is a bridge card to some other late game.
I always doubted the 2/2's. The OTk always seemed unlikely and the value is slim in the end game. Primarily because it is directly countered by more than half the other death knights
But the weapon is an excellent device to get you where you want to go. Paladin just doesn't have anywhere to go right now. Especially now that Warrior does sustain/fatigue much better

That's what i thought from the beginning,( voted to dust him) the four horsemen otk is something blizzard won't have to nerf cause they learned that if you make those to easy to accomplish it becomes oppressive etc.
Btw. I will hit Legend soon with Control Paladin, including Uther. :)
