Ok so, I have been slightly obsessed with Deathstalker Rexxar since it was revealed. I took it upon myself to analyze the 629 possible Zombeasts which are possible (including using Bearshark, Arfus, Exploding Bloatbat, Corpse Widow, Snowflipper Penguin and Bloodworm). I then rated each beast on a 5 Star scale taking into account the tempo, value and synergistic aspects of the cards. Some of the cards had immense situational value, but I ignored this in my analysis, figuring it should be obvious to the player if a situational card is very powerful.
After rating all the Zombeasts I averaged the rating for each of the beasts with "text", since they are the players first choice. The higher the average score the more likely a good Zombeast will result in the second choice. After this I divided the first choice beasts into tiers, these are my findings for the best beasts to choose in stage 1:
I downgraded Bittertide Hydra + Snowflipper Penguin to 4 stars after a discussion on reddit, it is a potent pile of stats but the downside is to big for 5 stars.
Rating zombeasts in a vacuum makes very little sense imo, their effectiveness will mostly depend on 1) the board state 2) the matchup and 3) the meta. Except Tundra Rhino + stealth zombeast which is free win.
I get the point. And that's why zombeasts are intriguing as you might not always pick the most overpowered combination. But at the same time, you can still speculate on the better zombeasts. You don't say Tirion Fordring is bad because you can't play it on turn 1-6 - and even your suggestion might not be the best at all times.
How can you put stonetusk boar under "meh"? Charge is always, always, ALWAYS relevant. The boar is probably one of the best ones you can get.
None of the second choice beasts are ranked as that choice is far more determined by the first choice. It was the 6th best of the second choices, on average.
Also I will include Explosive Bat what all of its details are released. I have yet to see the whole card. Same goes for Corpse Widow.
The deathrattle won't be poisonous since the minion already left the field when the damage is dealt. It's the same as envenom weapon + blade flurry, poisonous minion + shadowflame or Fiery Bat + poisonous adapt.

Also - nice work OP
Exactly. The situational factor was nearly impossible to quantify. I tried. I was thinking of outlining some standout situational beasts. But I realized most were very obvious. For example, opponent has a murloc? All Hungry crab options become bonkers. Without they are all meh. Sometimes you will pick a less optimal beast because of board state or mana etc. This was meant to be a baseline strategy.

Mod said it was a bug and after patch deathrattle will also trigger poisonous
As has been said any minion that deals damage as a deathrattle should kill if it has poisonous. This is being fixed as an interaction and thus the 5 star ratings for the Fiery Bat combo's. It also affects will with Giant Toad.
Something you seem to be missing: The low cost cards are a lot better than you're suggesting, just by being low cost. Alleycat + something cheap still leaves with 6 mana to actually play your deck.
Putting all the 5-cost at the top just means you're never playing another card until you've got 10 in hand.

I am not missing it at all. Tempo and Card cost was taking into account. What you are missing is that choosing Alleycat as your first pick does not guarantee a fast low cost card. In fact it more likely means a low impact card weak to board clears. There are some decent Alleycat Combo's but there are much better choices in the situation you need a fast low cost card to fill curve. Pick Emerald Hive Queen, Jeweled Macaw or Fiery Bat.

Interesting. That's news to me, do you mind linking a source?
From my experience making zombeasts, some cards look very promising: Stegodon (maybe an A), Rat Pack (S) and Stonetusk Boar (feels like an A, because getting right partners is game-winning)

And while we're on that, can we also see if the same interaction change will apply to Deathrattle effects with Lifesteal? Has there been confirmation on that end?

I will be updating this as more beasts are revealed.

You must've taken alot of time doing this thanks for all the info.
You forgot Explosive bat! Otherwise nice list.

Vote for my Card Design Submission! I love this one!

My greatest achievement yet:
Not disenchanting my double Shadowbomber
I haven't heard anything about Lifesteal unfortunately. But that seems logical and consistent so... don't count on it. lol
I like what you have so far, though it is hardly "comprehensive" considering another hundred cards have yet to be revealed.
