I don't know what the answer is, taking away ice block removes an entire archetype which is extreme. I think right now the problem is arcanologist. A mage gets ice block every game without much worry, without even having to draw through much of his deck. With the addition of p. glyph and babbling book, there is an even higher chance of two ice blocks.
Blizzard needs to be very careful creating cards that synergise with ice block. Ice block is a strong card, but drawing it consistently and with ease is the problem.

Well as long as ice block stays, nothing can replace it – once it's gone, there is space to design a new card. In my opinion, the expansion that comes with the rotation should contain cards to help control and combo mage playstyles cope with the loss of ice block.
I don't thing it shoukd be rotated out or nerfed. But i would like to see more counter possibillities. A good vanilla minion that has the effekt, "transform an enemy secret into a random other one". Somthing like this would be nice,
Or you could just play the minion that literally eats your opponents secrets. Eater of Secrets
Or Ice block could be simply nerfed without forcing people to play cards that are so and so against one class out of 9.
Nerfing is the easiest thing to do and would permenantly remove a very used card from the mage arsenal, that's a very poor way of handling it. Adding more strategies and deck building options is the way to go, instead of simply removing the card, imo.

We need more cards like Loatheb in standart. Than it would be fine.
Yes I agree.
Bro you just majorly contradicted yourself, logic is not a strong suit of yours. You just valiantly defended the argument that it should be nerfed/rotated and now you openly say that you agree to this? After you argued with Diamond that he's incorrect about EXACTLY this (that you just agreed with?). Makes me question everything you say now...
Eater of secrets is poorly designed trash and ice block is un-interactive and severely limits design space for mage.
Eater of Secrets being a poorly designed trash card is your opinion, in my opinion it's one of the best designed tech cards. Obviously, I care about game balance so I like the card, you don't so you dont' like it. You don't see Pro players having problems using the card, only low level players seem to not understand the concept of Tech cards.
Ice Block is interactive. You can counter it. You can play around it. It's just as interactive as about any other card in the game. For a card to be uninteractive, the first requirement is having no options to interacti with the card. The fact is there are options to interact with the card, NEUTRAL options which means every single class can interact with the card. If you want to overlook this fact, it's up to you, but then you are not arguing in reality.
Ice Block limits design space. This is the ONLY fact you actually wrote.
I care about fun, so I dislike ice block and eater of secrets. Obviously, you do not like fun.
A card or strategy having ONE answer and little to no counterplay does mean it is interactive. Your understanding of the dynamics of this game is obviously very shallow, since all you care about is a balanced meta game. Maybe you should play rock-paper-scissors instead.
I suppose all the rest of us can do is hope you never get a job with team 5.
It's fine. I put Eater of Secrets in all my decks and nothing gives me more pleasure than killing a mage with Ice Block up. Seriously, though, there's such an easy counter it's fine. Sorry you can't put all face cards in your deck and have to put in a reactive card for once.
the only time this card was annoying was in Reno mage.

is this your first card game? because techc ards is how card game works, i wholeheartedly invite you to read tournament reports of ANY, ANY card game, you'll notice that the players will discuss their decks and their tech choices...tech is a great thing to have in card games, it makes the game a lot less linear.

err, are you replying to me? Because I'm pretty sure we share the same opinioin :) I stated that I don't want to see it nerfed or rateted and that we should have more strategic options in deck building/teching instead of removing or nerfing the card :)

The thing is it's pretty hard to design a control or combo deck that wouldn't like to run two copies of Ice Block. Especially, when you need to keep it balanced.
I've always had fun playing as freeze mage, so I like it *ducks out of way of flying objects*.
Anyways, all my other "minion-based" decks include an eater of secrets just because I know that if I'm against a freeze/exodia mage, I will almost automatically win, assuming the eater is not the last card in my deck. I have fun playing as freeze mage or against freeze mage. Just build your deck properly.
I understand that it can be frustrating playing against freeze mage, so just start including two eaters in all your decks if you must, if it frustrates you that much.

While it's annoying to play against, I don't really have an issue with the card. I play a lot of wild otk mage so it's kinda necessary for me to ever pull off my combo. Maybe just remove it from random spells/discover pool since having 4-6 of them is absolutely retarded for the opponent since you basically rng your way to victory.
I voted nerf it, with the hope that it gets hall of famed so I can craft it in golden for free. Be nice not to have to deal with it when I play standard, but still get access to it when I play exodia mage and such in wild
Why is everybody losing their $hit about this card recently? What happened all of a sudden it's the most hated card? It's not like it was introduced last expansion. Ice block had its peak while Reno was in standard. Sometimes even I felt bad for the opponent for dropping Reno after block.
The problem isn't Ice Block itself, but the fact that Mage can randomly generate more copies of it with Babbling Book, Primordial Glyph, Kabal Courier and Kabal Courier, which are all really toxic cards and the real problem with Mage. If you could only generate commons and rares, then it would solve a lot of problems while giving you some chance for counterplay, since you know what he can't get. Some restricted randomness is fine like Hydrologist, but we don't need more bullshit like Primordial Glyph.
It is as much to do with the random generation of burn spells that they send to the face with impunity as it is getting extra ice blocks, so I'm not a huge fan of increasing the rate of fireball drops from these cards. But on the whole I agree, the issue is with the nature of mage spell generation and not with individual cards.
In other words there's a good reason to only allow 2 of a given card in a deck. (It also doesn't help that the arcanologist makes it near certain to draw both ice blocks too)
I care about fun, so I dislike ice block and eater of secrets. Obviously, you do not like fun.

Fun is subjective, game balance in a way is also subjective, but something that can be measure far more easily and objectively.
For me, Ice Block and Eater of Secrets are both cards I like because they are well designed. I have no issues playing against Ice Block, I do not like playing against Eater of Secrets, but that is obvious, I'm playing secrets. I also don't like playing against Acidic Swamp Ooze when I'm playing a Weapon class... It's not meant to be fun... It's a Tech card meant to improve matchups you are weak in. My only issue in the middle of this is Ice Blocks that are generated or discovered from random effects. I am perfectly fine with the 2 Ice Blocks included in the deck. It's fun for me to play against them since it's a strategy I know very well and can play around it perfectly.
Yes, I know. The funny thing is, you don't realize the fact that Secrets are by far the Spells with most interaction possible. EVERY single spell in the game has very limited interaction. ALL spells in the game are limited to the interaction of playing around them. The ONLY exception to this is Secrets, which can be nullified by destroying them, and minion Buffs, which can be silenced. Aside from those, all the other Spells in the game are less interactible than your so hated Ice Block.
It's this kind of aspects about the game that I wonder sometimes how you even talk about words like interactibility, when you seem to not know the game you are playing and the restrictions it has...
I think that maybe you should play another game. I'm not the one constantly complaining about a card that is perfectly balanced and easy to interact with. Blizzard also knows this, that is why they didn't do anything to the card until this point, they even left it in Standard after 2 rotations of cards that limited design. Even though Ice Block limits design, it is not a Broken card, just like all the cards that rotated in April. It also happens to be far less limiting than any of the cards that rotate. Doesn't need nerf because it's a fine card.
After all of this, the only issue I see is you continuing desperately to want that card removed, which means you should really consider if you want to play the game.
I'm not like you, I already made peace with the issues I have with the game. I decided to stop playing competitively because I disagree with all the RNG they added to the game. I already decided to stop playing against Priests because I disagree with all the Stealing cards in the class. As such, I enjoy the game when I play, and I make a conscious effort to not force myself into positions that will bring me frustration.
You should consider doing the same. Hate Ice Block? Concede when you see a Mage. Hate Priest Stealing cards? Concede when you see a Priest. Trust me, you'll feel far less frustration in the game and enjoy it much more. Funny that I'm telling you this when I'm the one that doesn't care about the fun aspect, but you clearly decide to consciously put yourself in frustrating positions.
Hahaha are you intentionally misunderstanding and misrepresenting my arguments? I don't know how I could have made myself any clearer. Your understanding of interactive gameplay, game balance and card design is very limited, I suggest you study up on these topics if you insist on preaching your opinions unto others.
I think it's fine. The only time I get frustrated is when people manage to discover or randomly get an extra one or two blocks (somebody got three extra against me once... that was not fun).
What if there was an anti-secret card that worked a bit like curious glimmerroot, except you had to choose which secret you thought your opponent had in play. Fun but prpbably unplayable!
You know what card HS have, that was thought as Ice Block counter? Well, I think it's Curse of Rafaam. Granted, by itself it's a bad card, however, a similar mechanic could be integrated into a Neutral minion.

Take a look at my card creations here in vojza's mini expansion topic.
The fact that you can get more then 2 in a game makes it bullshit.
