Pre the release of Un'Goro, the best mana-cost Forbidden Shaping was EIGHT. There were many good targets at that mana-cost, and most of us know that. My question is: Has anyone done a newer post and put together the data to find out if that number has changed?
We don't have Rag anymore so maybe that is all that mattered? Everything else of that high cost is pretty vanilla or battle-cry oriented.
I'd say the best is still eight mana, because of Tirion. But why are you even playing that card, free from amber is just a strictly better version. It also synergizes with Medivh.
I wasn't really looking for a snap answer. Something prepared and known.
Also I'm not playing the card, and I never said I was. It is generated sometimes through Lyra, for example, and the Kabal discover a spell card to name two.
8 mana is still the best slot imho. With creatures like gruul, and tirion in the mix. Wild has access to Rag and KT and others. And if you whiff the 8 mana slot, alot of the time you wind up with a big body, which isn't that bad.
You could argue 9 though with ysera and maly and the 6/10 taunt being fairly useful. It would be good if someone put together data of always good, sometimes good and always bad at each of the mana slots.
Free from Amber is better in 99% of cases. It is discover instead of random, can upscale on the mana cost, synergizes with Medivh and Radiant Elemental, and leaves behind mana for a small play or hero power. The only situations in which Forbidden Shaping is better is if you're desperate for a 7 or less play (in which case you're in trouble regardless) and against Counterspell (where you lose zero mana instead of eight).
Seeing as no reasonable deck would need 4 cards that generate a random big body sans battlecry, Forbidden Shaping is forever irrelevent.
To answer your question, 8 is still best, in case you randomly generated that card somehow.

Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.

If a forbidden card is played into counterspell, don't you still lose the mana anyway?

No, because spending mana is part of the effect. All forbidden cards work this way.

This is not Free From Amber vs Forbidden Shaping. Its about the random generation through Lyra which happens ALL the time. Ya'll making it seem so random to get this card as if you haven't played standard priest or arena.

Not to forget Ragnaros, Lightlord also massively helps out the 8 mana slot.
Though I think once wotog rotates out the 10 mana slot loses a bunch of smaller bodies like Yogg-Saron, Hope's End and N'Zoth, the Corruptor and becomes the best one.
That's Incredible!
