Un'goro has introduced 2 new discover secret cards for 2 of the top classes in the meta right now, Mage and Paladin. With 2 Arcanologist and Hydrologist in every deck you really need to be running Eater of Secrets. This card will win. you. games. Eating (optimistically) 2 secrets turns Eater into a 4/6 4 drop that totally turns the game in your favor. If you don't have any tech cards like Hungry Crab, Golakka Crawler, or Gluttonous Ooze I recommend you try them out.
Depends on your deck though; a useless tech card is a dead card. I don't run any of those in my current Rogue deck and haven't had too many problems with the secrets
The issue is that whenever I add Eater of Secrets, I never get matched against secret classes/decks. Same thing with Golakka Crawler and Oozes. Get tons of pirate warriors, add them, then get none at all until I remove those cards.
Been running a single copy in quite a few decks, since i HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE Ice Block. Works like a charm! A shame its base stats are quite so bad. It could easily be a 3/4, since its effect can only proc on 3 of 9 classes... Thankfully its minion tech, unlike Flare, so its never totally dead.
The choice to use tech cards obviously depends on the Meta, and if your deck has an especially difficult time with a certain type of threat. Harrison Jones is a 5/4 body which I don't mind including in a deck. Eater of Secrets is a tougher call. I tend to use it in Wild more than Standard, where there are additional threats like Freeze Mage to deal with.

flare draws at least a card. i think flare is less a dead card then eater of secrets against non-secret decks.
They both have their merits. Sometimes paying 2 to cycle is better. Usually I find a minion better than that, it soaks a hit if nothing else
I agree with everyone else that teching just messes up your deck synergy too much and throws off YOUR game. DON'T DO IT!!! ONLY deck it's good in is Huntard with Golakkas cause at least it has beast synergy.
The only deck i would auto run eater is discard lock since you can just throw them away if not needed, and when you need them theyre insane. But otherwise you can win vs mage with other decks not needing eater, eating paladin secrets dowsnt do verry much so basically while its ok tech when you auto lose vs mage its nowhere near an auto include.
Eater of Secrets is bad against Paladin since they may play Hydrologist before you draw Eater, and you may sit with a dead Eater in hand while they've not drawn their Hydrologist. Besides, it's not exactly a game-winning tempo swing when you pull it off.
The only sensible tech choices right now are weapon removal, since a ton of decks run weapons (and Medivh), and Golakka Crawler if you have some beast synergy.
I run eater of secrets even in a warlock discard deck since paladin is back and mage is dependent on ice block more than ever before. Only Hunter doesn't use traps anymore.

I have seen eater of secrets a couple times in standard this season, the results were pretty good

Paladin secrets aren't that valuable, and are hard to hit with eater since they may come and go before turn 4.
I doubt you hit 2 secrets often as again paladin secrets come and go quickly and are only from hydrologist, and many mages only run ice block.
Crawler and Ooze are way easier to include as they don't suck when played as vanilla cards. Eater is terrible if it doesn't trigger.
The current meta is too diverse to justify eater which is really just anti-mage tech.
True but the odds are in your favor at higher ranks with how many murloc pallys and discover mages there are. More often than not you will get value.

Back when Quest Mage was more popular, I did tech some Flares into my Hunter deck. The hoped-for ending was realized, and it was extremely satisfying!
I've tried Eater of Secrets as well (in other decks), but it never managed to eat any secrets, so I took it out.

My thoughts exactly, but it hasn't worked once in the last two seasons :'(
