the hydra only works in aggro druid atm just because of the chance to highrole for example double innervate turn 1 8/8 = GG (I had it 2 times yesterday)
If your game plan is to highroll on the mulligan as an aggro deck, there's something wrong with your deck.

did you ever play this shit deck ? innervate + fledgling or hydra is the highroll and decides games by turn 1or2.
I faced it only a couple of times but if I remember it correctly I only lost one game because of it. Its interesting how much stronger our 4 mana 7/7 friend felt when it was released though.

Sometimes he hits the board and your opponent can't do anything about it......sometimes he hits the board and your opponent punishes hard. Just the flavor of the card Hydra is ok, I feel that Fel Reaver was much better (especially given that Wailing Soul existed then. I don't play Hydra personally and when an opponent does I usually get the opportunity to punish hard, very rarely does it catch me off guard.

It's basically the same as fel reaver, which was only played in aggro druid. The drawback doesn't matter most of the time. It's a good minion but you have to remember that most decks still run hard removal that's costed as low as 2 mana so vanilla minions are not the greatest thing in the world. Take highmane for example, which is pretty much just another big dumb ball of stats that does nothing when it hits the board (6 mana 10/9, comparable to hydra), but the great thing about it is that your opponent (unless he has a transform effect) will have to put 2-3 damage sources just to deal with one card. Execute doesn't do it, peacekeeper, swd, equality, meteor, syphon soul, mulch, shield slam don't do it, most aoe doesn't do it, the card is usually just a major headache to deal with efficiently, unlike vanilla minions.

Yeah, i was just suprised by how much better it actually was. I did neither think that you would receive more than 6 damage from Bittertide Hydra on a regular basis nor that the effect would be worse than loosing 2 mana the following turn. Not that I complain though.

It is a risky card. I don't think it is overrated, just played where it is synergic enough to make the bet acceptable. Aggro (NOT flood), Beast, Silence archetypes can all profit from Hydra more than other cards. Ofc as a one-of.
I wouldn't say it is worse than Reaver, as in fast archetypes health and card pool are equally secondary variables.
For Silence archetypes Reaver is actually worse, in case you miss the combo, while you can risk an unsilenced Hydra if you are not facing flood.
I run one Bittertide Hydra in my Mid Hunter deck. I think two would be too risky, but if unanswered, the 8/8 body is tremendous. I don't often see Volcano or Avenging Wrath from my opponents (although an Avenging Wrath did kill me once with this card). You have to have a good idea what your opponent's strategy is before laying this card down. It's usually a safe bet against anyone who can't cast a spell dealing single points of damage to different targets (Priest, Warrior, Druid, Hunter mirrors, Rogue, Warlock). If they have to use hard removal to get rid of it, that's one less removal card to deal with my other threats. I'd be careful against Mage, Shaman or control Paladin. (On the flip side, I also wouldn't lay it down against a full board of small minions - something like Unleash the Hounds is a much better choice in that situation.)
Sounds like a pretty bad turn 9 play imo. The druid that ran Fel Reaver just dropped that thing turn 5 at the latest and smacked face with disregard for the discards.
It may never get a losing player back in the game, but it can swing a game that's on the edge. Coming onto an empty board turn 4 or 5 (i.e. nobody has an advantage) it can win you the game in either constructed or arena. It's a good card.
Are you suggesting you know more than the Hearthstone community? "don't bring up what the HS community thinks about a card as an argument".
Also, Flamewreathed Faceless was a strong card (at least played on turn 4). It's a stronger body than any other card on the board until about turn 6. The hypothetical 5 mana 8/8 would You're right about control though. Playing an early 8/8 would control the board. But if you say that control would play it, how does "nobody would play it except aggro druid" work? The goal of an aggro deck is to quickly end the game right? Well, even with an aggro deck the game won't always end on turn 5. Given I play aggro decks, I think I have at least some idea of what an aggro deck is. Playing a really aggressive deck with a mana curve centred at 2 will start to lose out around turn 5. A 5 mana 8/8 without a drawback can be the final card to win. There are many games I have lost even though my opponent had less than 10 health by turn 5 with aggro decks. With a 5 mana 8/8, I could end of the game. There are also reasons that aggro players don't play Mountain and Arcane Giant. When's the last time you've seen 8 cards in the hand of an aggro player on turn 5? Never? Oh, that's right, because an aggro deck has to actually use cards in the early game. Arcane Giant is utterly unsuitable in a deck without many spells, and many aggro decks would be too busy placing minions to play 7 spells by turn 5.
Oh, here's another thing. If this card is hard-removed, it doesn't provide that much value. A 4-mana Polymorph would only be a net gain of 1 mana- sure, it's 1 mana, but Polymorph is typically used on 7+ mana cards, or cards that received that much buffing.
Also, midrange. The statement you've made is really odd. A midrange deck usually wants cards which have a better sole value than any other card in the opponent's deck. What better example than a 5 mana 8/8? A midrange deck usually doesn't believe in synergies any way, so it won't "screw up your synergies". And a 5 mana card too slow against control decks? What do you mean? Midrange decks are usually centered around 4 mana. 5 mana is just 1 more than that!
In an aggro deck, a 5 mana 8/8 card is worth it as a finisher. In a midrange deck, it's the ultimate example of value. And in a control deck, well I don't need to explain, since you said yourself that it would be used.
Honestly, I don't see how losing 2 card slots is pretext to avoid such a value card.

Yesterday, I was playing in arena.
I play as Warlock, have 25 heal. It was turn 5, I drop Hydra. My opponent plays Volcano.
Lethal turn 6 on arena, lul.

Yes, it is very overrated. It's a win more card, it will never get a losing player back into a game.

Surprised no comments about including it in silence priest deck
