I am an avid Hearthstone player, and was really excited for the new expansion (along with everyone else). With the introduction of the new legendary quests the game has dramatically changed (as with any other expansion). However, I am having a lot of trouble with the Hunter quest The Marsh Queen who gives you Queen Carnassa and then 15 Carnassa's Brood as it is the only quest that requires you to make a completely disastrous deck type in order to complete the quest.
If there was either a way to complete the quest faster, or have a more consistent deck built around it it would be extremely powerful, but this is not the case. you either 1: have to make the majority of your deck out of 1-cost minions (who generally are pretty weak) or 2: have a pointless quest that takes too long to complete because you have to put enough mid-range cards in the deck to be competitive.
Let me tell you I haven't tried, I've tried putting a Secret Hunter feel into the deck, I've tried going almost all one-drops and Tundra Rhinos, I've even tried N'Zoth, the Corruptor! and they all have their own problems.
The Secrets deck relies on too many mid-range cards to be able to complete the quest within a timely manner (although it has worked the best out of the three deck types)
The all (mostly) one-drops "deck" [not even a real deck] and put Hemet, Jungle Hunter to git rid of everything but the Rhinos after the quest, but the earliest you can play Hemet is turn 6 (about when you complete the quest anyways) and by that time, all you've played are one cost minions that can't do much at all unless you happen to draw and make use of a Dinomancy. And while the Tundra Rhino/ Carnassa's Brood combo is amazing, it takes one or two turns too long to set up without much prior board control.
Lastly, the N'Zoth, the Corruptor deck has too much conflict in the two win conditions. N'Zoth is generally slow and board-focused, While The Marsh Queen is an in-your-face targeted quest. I have plenty of decent Deathrattle minions, but in order to play them, I have to take out my (apparently valuable) one-drops and sacrifice my quest progress.
TLDR: The Hunter quest requires a deck type that only works about 30% of the time and at that is mostly a joke. The quest needs to be reworked to either be just Summoning 1-cost minions (rather than playing them) or simply playing/summoning Beasts. Or even if it was just 6 1-cost minions, it would make all of the accompanying deck more consistent.
If there's a place I can copy and paste this so Blizzard can see, I'd love to know about it, otherwise, let me know what you think.
Unfortunately, blizzard never buffs cards so hunter enthusiasts like me who barely have any dust can't do much. Keep experimenting though! We can always wait till next expansion. After all, blizzard with eventually make a OP one drop that supports aggro.
The reward for the quest does seem to be a bit week. Most classes have access to a good board clear that prevents you from building and maintaining a massive board of raptors, and as you said the tundra rhino combo is really difficult to pull off.
I'm sure there is a place for the deck and I encourage you to keep exploring.
Hunter is my least played class because there has never been a deck in the class that particularly interested me, but the new hunter cards like dinomancy and stampede and dred all look really fun to play with.
Best of luck to you! I look forward to seeing what you can do with it. :)
I'm not playing with the quest. As I said in another thread I think that as a midrange / secret hunter you want to go on curve almost all the time and start snowballing early since first turn so imo it's essentially to play some one drop on turn one or coin two drop. Especially if you fallow with Crackling Razormaw next turn and this happenes very often. If you want to play quest hunter you have also put at least 7 one drops in your deck which makes the deck inconsistent because curve is to low for a midrange deck. You have to build whole deck around the quest and even then you can't be sure you will complete it. Maybe in some kind of non-beast aggro hunter it will work, like more classic aggro with Abusive Sergeants or something... pirates maybe? But hunter lacks of early wepons in standard (I miss you Glaivezooka) to synergise with pirates. Combining secret hunter with quest hunter could be difficult because you need 7+ one drops (2 of them Secretkeepers i think), 2 Cloaked Huntress and like 4-6 secrets. So you have very limited space to fill other stample cards.
The poll options are stupid. Just because we agree it's weak doesn't mean we agree it should get "reworked" as well.
If something is clearly 'weak' then something should be done whether everyone wants it to be or not. Blizzard has stated multiple times that they actively try to make a balanced game, and right now, the quests are far from it. Therefore, if you agree it is 'weak' and you respect Blizzard at all, you should automatically agree that it should be changed. that is, unless you want every other quest to be nerfed to shit and also become unusable.
It's too early to buff something, way way too early. Also, rework just seems like a huge change, maybe it's just semantics. I don't disagree that it should get buffed if it's too weak, but it's not even a week after launch.
It's unplayable now. Hard to complete, need a shitty deck and the reward is good but not great. They can change "play" with "summon" and let us play a combo deck, but not sound like something that Blizzard would do. At least midrange hunter is good.
"The quest needs to be reworked to either be just Summoning 1-cost minions (rather than playing them) or simply playing/summoning Beasts"
Is what i said near the bottom of the original post, so yes, I'd have to very quickly agree with you. also, that would make Alleycat super useful.
I wish it was, but unless some genius comes up with a refined deck list that actually works, yeah, the quest sucks.
And that was what I predicted when the 3/5 that fishes 2 cards was released. Hunters can't play the value game, it does not work. They called me crazy back then, I'd like to see their faces now :P

Hi. I play hunter. End of story.
Maybe it's not pure secret hunter but I play midrange beast hunter with Cloaked Huntress, two Cat Tricks, Explosive Trap, Snake Trap without Secretkeepers because I play beast one drops instead and it's working surprisingly well.
But are you playing with the quest? and how reliably are you completing it?

The Emerald Hive Queens are really good stat wise, but they do have a nasty side effect.

Quest hunter has seem a bit weak compared to midrange. I prefer midrange anyway and it's much cheaper to craft.

The hunter quest is weak and it's the best thing for this game. We don't need an other kind of pirate warrior

I've been trying Elementals in since four of them generate more one drops and so far it seems better, but I'm only 1-1 for playing 2 games.

Better to have a quest be weak than OP! Everyone's upset about rogue. We were wrong about alot of cards.
Guys, you don't need the quest. Midrange Beast Hunter is pretty good at the moment just by itself.
Every time I lose to the quest deck, they never cast Carnassa, they jsut zerg me down. I think yee old beast face deck is better.
People werent able to come up with a decent midrange listso far. Were just a few days in, possible that something will come up.
