I won't say that elemental decks wont be a thing.. BUT.. seems like jade shaman is likely going to be the future of shaman in this next expansion. If elemental decks are played, I'm willing to bet its going to be mages.
8/10 in combined stats seems really good. Many decks struggle trying do deal with Feral Spirits, and here we see same taunts. Combine that with a Mana Tide and it's a must clear.
Even if this gets the buff it still super loses to Flamestrike as well as a bunch of the 5 dmg boardclears, which is really bad if you are behind on board and this play was supposed to stabilize you. Probably won't see play.
I wonder if those who complaint about Jades will instead:
a) Play Elementals;
b) Complaint about Elementals.
Regarding the Stone Sentinel, I guess it will see play in Elemental Shaman Decks. I am curious to see some Jade vs Elementals matches while the new meta is not settle.
But so far with Stone Sentinel, it seem elemental synergies are powerful too if you can trigger them, but minions are very weak if you can't. Add with this, the trigger is very restrictive: i have only Fire Elemental in hand as elemental, and i want to play my Stone Sentinel turn 7, if my opponent play something i need to kill right now, with dragon synergies you can still play them the next turn, but with this it's shift your play by TWO turns. And if i play Fire Elemental turn 6, i kill your minion turn 7 with no other elemental to play, i can't play Stone Sentinel turn 8.
Add Overload for the turns management, and Jade competition, and i think this will be difficult to play and difficult to shine.
I hope this card is just an exception :-( What do you think? /discuss
You need to play elemental on turn 6 to activate...for now we know of Fire elemental. If your opponent plays something you need to clear asap, and fire elemental cant deal with it...turn 7 for this guy gets delayed and so his value...
Nah, I'm fairly certain we can safely assume that the Mage Quest is the one that wants you to play Elementals; Pyros and Flame Geyser both add Elementals to your hand allowing you to continually play them and power up the quest.
Wouldn't make sense either way for the Shaman Quest to be Elementals, since you either have to play them (and Stone Sentinel SUCKS for that) or summon them (and Stone Sentinel is TOO GOOD for that).
I imagine we'll see Overload as the Shaman mechanic, since they're losing Tunnel Trogg and Totem Golem, which are the primary cards that would make such a thing too powerful. The fact that we're losing Elemental Destruction also makes it where we won't see T4 completions of the quest, either. Just makes too much sense after Finders Keepers was printed.
That's a plausible outcome to, at least for quests. Based on the spell they showed off it does appear they're going deep on Elementals in Mage... and I'm honestly pretty cool with that. Minion-heavy Mage lists have always been my favorite so it would be cool to see them get a solid tribal again, especially something a little beefier than Mechs.
That being said, I do expect Shaman to still have the beefiest Elemental dudes hands down. I'd be pretty surprised if we didn't see a way to turn Stone Sentinel into a beastly late drop.

Well Jade will be getting a small nerf in standard with the removal of Brann so it will slow down jade a little so this might be useful but i think it really depends on what other cards Shaman get. We're also losing our tunnel trogg and totem golem so if we get some early game elementals, this would make them a bit more useful later on when drawn before playing some bigger elementals. I'm not a big fan though of the "played last turn" mechanic but I'll wait to reserve judgement till I see the other cards. Maybe we'll get something that buffs our elementals? Finally as others have said pairing this with Evolve could be really interesting.
Comes with a built-in Feral Spirit.....not bad for the cost. Feral Spirit is valued somewhere between 4 and 5 mana, and a 4/4 is 3.5 mana, so the value on this card checks out.
It's alright. It's fairly similar to playing a Jade Chieftain on turn 7, a little better than that actually, and it's an elemental for your next turn. Though of course Jade Chieftain will always be better on later turns, and more importantly, Jade Chieftain is generally considered one of the worst cards in the Jade Shaman deck that is only included because you need a critical amount of jade generators.
So I see this as more of an Arena powerhouse, if you've got a few elementals.
Yes, do that: Twin Emperor has a more generous condition (once achieved, you can play him whenever you want), he has two statpoints more and is much harder to kill with AoE.
Admitted, I considerJade Chieftain already better (Jade chieftain is at worst a 7 mana 5/5+1/1 taunt), but the condition is in my opinion the biggest problem with stone sentinel. So much that can just screw you over (no elemental in hand, change of plans due to your opponent's plays, topdeck mode). It might work in a elemental-heavy deck and if it does, stone sentinel seems an okay value card, but I think it will be too unreliable. And a 7 mana 4/4 "do nothing" is just not playable at all.

cool card
I definitely think I'll be going back to playing Shaman.
I think this card will see a lot of play in competitive after rotation (slower meta) - fair stats in general !
I mean, this is a very good card. Excellent value.
Is it good enough to replace Jade in Shaman? HELL no.

Seems ok.

This time, for sure!

Stone Sentinel or Jade Chieftain ?
Unless we do see some stronger elemental synergies, for me the answer seems obvious.

I'm a little afraid with elemental synergy: look at dragon synergy: when you can use their ability, they are powerful, but if you can't, well they still have generaly average stats, so you're not too far behind (Wyrmrest Agent, Alexstrasza's Champion, Nightbane Templar, Blackwing Technician, Twilight Guardian, Blackwing Corruptor, Drakonid Operative, Chillmaw).
But so far with Stone Sentinel, it seem elemental synergies are powerful too if you can trigger them, but minions are very weak if you can't. more like Dr 100 dust

This is extremely good, it curves with Fire Elemental, just compare it to Twim Emperor Vek'lor
