Ooze is actually more useful against a larger variety of opponents.
This card was really overhyped because people were sick of pirate warrior. It's not actually a good card..
It's a very good card. A lot better than ooze against rogues. Ooze will destroy a 1/1 weapon and die to Backstab..
Against pirate warrior the ooze isn't nearly enough anyway, if you're going to tech against this deck you should run both of them and get a 85% win rate.
And if you're a hunter, always go with the crawler, 2/3 or 3/4 beast is better than 3/2 non beast.
Now if we're talking about Gluttonous Ooze, then it is the best against pirate warrior, even for hunters.
Basically if you want to counter pirate warrior play all the tech cards together, if you want to counter quest rogue play Golakka Crawler, if you are a hunter play Golakka Crawler, if you want to counter the weapon classes in general play Acidic Swamp Ooze.
Bounce rogue doesn't need the pirate package. When the hype of Dog's deck dies down, not everyone is going to run it. The token Elementals are more consistent if you don't draw perfectly. Then the crawler will just be a 2/3 against half the rogues playing the quest. Even against that half running pirates, it will only kill a 1/1 to gain +1/+1. It won't really help you stop the rogue from meeting their quest goal unless you're a face hunter or something. Good luck playing a 2/3 that does nothing in half your games as a face hunter.
Crawler is only great against PW if you draw it very early to either kill a bloodsail cultist or a southsea captain. Ooze is good throughout the entire match, especially if you draw it past 4 mana.
In other matchups, a 3/2 is preferable to a 2/3 most of the time because it trades up better, and actually threatens some popular 3 health 1-drops.
This. Both cards are intended for a meta that is dominated by pirate warrior. Benefits against other classes are secondary. They are the epitome of what tech cards should be. Good enough against those decks to be worth playing if their numbers get to high, while also not making the deck type pointless. AT the same time they are bad enough to make other decks better so they've encourage those decks.
can someone explain me why do pirate warriors run this in their decks?
i mean i know, that this absorbs a 1/1 pirate and becomes a Totem Golem, BUT wasn't there a discussion, claiming, that this harms your deck rather to improve it? why do i keep seeing PWs with this beast? normally when they play their big pirate, they don't want to eat it and thus this cards remains in their hand - as a dead card.
so what's the reason for this? + only PW and QR run pirates (ok so token dudu too, but still), so the golakka crawler won't always eat an enemy pirate.
note: is this because ppl are between ranks 25 - 10 and don't know what the refined PWs use in the higher ranks
but ... but ... the meta doesn't consist of PW + something else there's a big variety you don't always face a PW, there are also other decks - other aggro decks + midrange, combo and control PW is just a warrior deck-type, it has a good win-rate, but it's not as dominant as it was last expansion

Golakka is better than Ooze against PW since it will kill 2-3 more pirates or eat a big weapon charge on itself. Ooze can be amazing if it kills a Reaper, but will not threaten board dominance against PW.

but my question was why do PWs use it this looks like a bad topdeck, especially when you have a board and you don't want to eat your own pirate + this is potentially a dead card if you 1) like i said have good pirates on the board 2) you are up against anything but a PW
i'm not that convinced of running it just for the mirror matches

I've seen a lot of PW use this even in legend, the answers is just that PWs are fucking retarded

It doesn't affect the win rate against other match ups much and is really good in the mirror.
well as a person, that plays control or control-ish decks i want to share my experience from the games, when i faced PW with the crawler: i had and i still have the feeling, that this just slows them down i saw the crawler only after i used dirty rat and this was around turn 7 (some played it on their own, but it wasn't in the early game) so they kept it in their hand way too long - kinda useless imo and that's just a 2/3, no charge, no synergy with the weapon or the pirates (like buffing them) it only looks good in the mirror
note: if it nevertheless improves the deck, i will kinda accept it, but it just looks weird to me

You should. It makes up of 40% of your games, and a Golakka hitting an early pirate is as close as gg against a deck that has no way to deal with growing boards.

golakka helps against other pirate warriors
Every third game above rank five is against PW, it gives an edge in mirror matches.
there's a big variety

Perhaps pirate warriors are using this to defeat other pirate warriors...
