if we go control shaman for the new meta, we lose elemental destruction, so obviously, this card will take it's palce, but being 5 base cost means it's going to be a one of since it's a conditional card. which is fine, in control your going to draw the majority of your deck from sheer turn count.
from how I see control shaman. they could run 6 clears effectively, two portals for the early game, 2 lightning storms for the swarms, a devolve for buffed boards, and a volcano for high singleton hp minons, that also happens to be good against a bunch of mid range minons.
finish up with 2 hex, and the rest of the deck can be your quest plan. which for shaman I"m betting is elemental.
I'm wondering if you won't see some cards that combo with this for shaman. Like a Lava Dino that gains +2 HP everyone it gets hit. 2mana drop 3/2. Nothing super powerful but can stick as it grows.
Also patron synergy.
I don't see this as a board clear. If comparing to flame strike it's strictly worse (both are 7 mana investments, FS kills only opponents minions and scales well with SP, Volcano gets +1 ping/+1 SP (difference of 35 potential damage to opponent be 16 potential random damage) other than it can be played as early as T4, it's only real upside. It's also only good against agro. Locks and priests will laugh at this with 8+ health bodies.
Warrior has frothing on board, you volcano and only frothing survives and you just made a 17+/1-4 minion and you know it's going to happen because it can.
As per my first statement I'd really like to see some combo cards that support/reward shaman hurting their own board for playing this.
This cart is playable, but not insane. Let's compare with a Brawl and possible interactions:
- With a Brawl you have a % to save one of your minion - Dirty Rat + Brawl is WAY better than Dirty Rat + Volcano. 6 volcano's damage is 'absorbed' by Rat, so this combo is almost unplayable. - Can't play Volcano if an enemy card as Acolyte of Pain is on board, as opposed to Brawl. Even with Enrage cards it's risky. - (obv) Volcano has a 2 overload; you can't go for a 6mana drop on the next turn if you don't unlock your mana crystals...
Maybe i'm going to run a 1x copy of it in a control shaman
Powerful card that may or may not need to exist in the upcoming meta. Shaman is definitely staying a contender as far as we can see for now. This card is definitely for control shaman. We still have well over 100 cards to be revealed, so we can't freak out just yet.
Also, if this card gets heavy play, we can expect a nerf. I'd say a fair nerf is upping the Overload tax to 3 or even 4. Keep the mana cost at 5. it better reflects the spirit of shaman overload cards: low cost power at the cost of mana next turn.

Rage quitting: the best way to ensure your opponent knows they beat a giant baby.
Doesn't seem very good compared to Elemental Destruction... It's only slightly more flexible because of the fact that it can kill big minions, but it can't remove big boards.
This is an objectively good card. I don't know what to say to the people who don't recognize that. It's not as good as Brawl. But, I'd place it somewhere in the neighborhood of Lightbomb.
The real question, as some have also noticed, is whether control shaman will be good (or at least better than jade or aggro). It loses a lot of sustain in the rotation. Jinyu will not be enough. But the taunts and removal are there.
Also, it is without a readily visible win condition. It's quest card may have something to say about a number of these issues. Who knows?
stop recycle existing mechanics, thats boring af. after 2nd reno for priest only now 2nd spreading madness for shaman. what an innovation!
Except that the Quest card for priest isn't like Reno. It doesn't demand a singleton deck and the effect is substantially stronger than Reno. Whereas Reno always healed you until you were full, this will set your HP to 40 meaning it doesn't even count as heal. A better comparison would be Alexstrasza.
7 mana cost overall with overload for 15 random indiscriminate damage. Plus side can be cast on 5 mana.
Compared to flame strike which costs 7 mana and and does 4 damage to each enemy minion only, meaning a board of 4 minions makes flamestrike better value and more consistent due to no RNG.
shaman card so competing with lightning storm because I'm pretty sure elemental destruction rotates out of standard set. Lightning storm is 5 mana playable on 3 mana deal 2-3 damage to enemies only. Even if it low rolls every time on a board of 4 minions that is 8 discriminate damage for 5 mana so better value and more consistent.
i think this card is counter active to the shaman hero power and style of play to control the board with minions. Maybe a control option but not overly strong imo.
The obvious comparison is Elemental Destruction - the downside to this is it's starting cost and it won't do as much guaranteed damage to enemy minions, particularly if you have any minions in play. The upside is you don't need to immediately play an "unlock overloaded crystals" card or take the next turn off/mostly off casting anything and that it will do higher guaranteed damage to a fewer number of minions, particularly if your board is empty.
An example would be an enemy who has 6 3-5 health minions, Elemental Destruction will be better as you will 100% kill them all. Alternatively, if opponent has a Tirion and Rag Lightlord in play only and you have nothing, you'll actually kill both of them with this 100%.
Well it looks like Blizzard is continuing to push control shaman. This card obviously replaces elemental destruction. Hopefully shaman will get better control cards to make it viable because volcano alone will definitely not do it since it is worse in most scenarios than elemental destruction. The upfront cost is more even though the total cost is less which is usually worse ( 5(2) vs 3(5)). It is a 10 mana combo vs an 8 mana combo with hallazeal which is a huge deal not to mention that hallazeal plus elemenal destruction will usually heal you back up to full health whereas volcano will not. Spell power scales much better with ele D than volcano. Totemic Call has synergy with elemental destruction but anti synergy with volcano. Volcano is better than ele D for large single target removal IF you have no board. But shaman already has one of the best single target removal spells in the game.
I'm not sure why some here are complaining about shaman having another AoE spell. The competive shaman builds are aggro (which will likely die after mammoth season begins) and midrange which will probably be the best build with the jade mechanic but will definitely not run volcano just like it doesn't run elemental destruction because it is board-centric deck. Unless, a lot of good control cards get printed this card will likely just be a worse aoe card than elemental destruction.
If you do the math on this it's a Shaman Flamestrike, since it can only target minions that means it can deal 4 dmg to basically 4 minions....Will be a very good Arena card...Could see play in Constructed...Probably just run one of these tho.
RNG is not a factor with this card...As long as the enemy board has 15 or less health it's a board clear, doesn't matter what order it happens in.

I agree Flamestrike is the best card to compare it to, but RNG can be a factor with the card if you have a board yourself as it deals damage indiscriminately to all minions on the board. Interesting point about the health total of the enemies board though.

Great card.
I like elementals and totems.
No thx. No more face spells for shaman pls. Its good that it's only minion based
also it's never a good idea to ignore shamans totems. Flametongue or bloodlust is always a danger.
Hmm. Only really works from behind. Not sure if that makes it unplayable, as the whole object is to never get behind.
I like to make cards and discuss game balance.
I enjoy when "No similar decks were found."

When we get this elemental destruction cycles out. Its no longer a part of the argument for what this theory craft deck uses for clears.
if you need to wipe out high hp minons, this card is the new option in ungoro.

I first read this as 15 damage to all enemies. Swear to god, almost had a heart attack
