Note1: Max dust rewarded is 1 copy per legendary, 2 copies for other rarities and dust is granted to golden's only if you have both golden & regular copies.
Is this true? I only have golden copies of Azure, Sylvanas, and Rag - won't I get 9600 dust? (2x1600, 3200, 3200)
Or do I have to craft regular versions of each in order to get the golden value - that sounds stupid.

I apologize for the phrasing of my sentence. What I meant is that you only get dust for your golden cards, not for your regular cards, if you have both regular and golden copies. If you have only goldens, you'll of course receive the full dust as you mentioned (though golden rare is 2*800 = 1600 not 2*1600)
just to make sure, i have to keep the copy of my normal sylvannas until the rotation to get the refund for golden then dust it after for 400 profit and golden?
Get 3200 when they move to HOF status. 0 + 3200 = 3200
Get 3200 when you DE it. 3200 + 3200 = 6400
6400 > 3200
I don't see how hard that is to comprehend.
If you start with regular rag you'd get 1600 by doing nothing. Ig you create golden rag you spend 3200. You'll get 3200 from bliz once rag rotates. Then you can de him for 1600 (not 3200). Leaving you with net positive of 1600 = same as if you'd do nothing.
(presuming you have the normal Rag) Start with 3200, craft golden Rag, now have 0. Mammoth arrives, you get 3200 for golden rag, now have 3200 or net gain of 0. You DE the golden and keep the normal, get 1600, now have 1600 or net gain of 1600. but... Do nothing at all, mammoth arrives and get 1600 for normal Rag or net gain of 1600, hence why bother.
Confusion is because having golden eliminates dustback for the normal, and HoF cards won't DE for full value.

You only get a refund for the cards you have. And you wont get refunded for your regular copy if you have a golden copy. Crafting a golden copy makes sense if you don't own any copy. If you own the regular copy you will get 1600. If you also want the golden, you can craft it for 3200, get 3200, DE it for 1600 and be left with the same amount. If you want to keep the golden version you can get it for 1600 dust effectively, or 1200 if you DE your regular copy afterwards.
If i already have normal ragnaros, and i craft golden rag, then get the refund for 3200.
Then DE golden rag for 1600 and still keep normal rag.
So i gain 1600 and keep a normal rag. to play on wild.
If i dont do anything either i end up with normal rag or with 1600 dust but not both.
am i right?
No, if you do nothing (but you already have a regular Ragnaros), you get rewarded with 1600 dust for it and you get to keep it for Wild. In other words, same result only less work.
I understood everything, but I don't agree with the "Why bother". Since you won't lose anything (if you shard the golden Rag after you will still have 1600 dust, as if you did nothing), why don't play a couple of months with a shiny Rag? :D

if they're giving us the full dust, doesnt that imply we'd get full DE value?

I crafted a golden Rag few months ago and was planning to craft a golden Sylvanas. Sick I'm going to get 2 golden legendaries for free! I already have 2 golden PO, 2 Ice Lance, and 1 Azure Drake. I will craft 2 golden Conceals. I will have all Hall of Fame cards golden!

Not at all! If you bother to read their post you will see it is very clearly stated in there.
It's kind of hard to understand! Took me a while and I don't see myself as stupid... There is just some confusion with the dust numbers, hope more people get it without the need of an actual graphic representation.
Should you craft/disenchant (Golden) Sylvanas or Ragnaros?

But I can understand why it's confusing for a lot of people.
Hey. =)
you are right :D thx for the clarification. Do nothing it is then.

Still pretty confusing.
Listen. Here is what you do if you don't care about goldens and just want maximum dust returns. (Only for rares and commons)
Got golden card? Do nothing.
Got only regular? Do nothing.
Have neither? Craft the regular version.
CRAFT EVERY GOLDEN COMMON FOR FREE DUST!!!
Wished to be pink.
Then did.
Then fired myself.
Then did again.
Thank you OP! I've been telling exactly this to people, I don't understand why they are so confused. It so simple to do the math.
What mesmerizes me is that people are still confused after seeing this post, oh boy...
