As disappointing that highlander cards were included in this expansion, it is nice to know Reno's departure will end the highlander experiment. A disappointing mechanic and sad really that the game is in this state. For those of you cheering Reno, is this really the answer to aggro you wanted? It's like a starving dog being thrown some gristle, they don't notice it isn't real meat.
Not sure how many people would agree that the highlander cards are disappointments. Kazakus spells are insanely powerful. Raza and Inkmaster Solia are both good cards to add to Reno decks that needed more consistency.
And I'm not sure why you keep referring to it as an experiment. Renolock has been viable since LOE and Reno has been one of the most influential cards in the meta. Especially with Hearthstone introducing Kazakus I'm pretty sure it's not just an experiment, they plan on continuing to add cards to the highlander pool.
If healing back to full health for a battlecry is "disappointing" to you then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe a different game is in order, have you tried chess? The knights move in an 'L' shape... insane!
Reno made people explore deckbuilding much more. Limited to 1 copy per card, people had to be a lot more creative in how they put together their decks. Great card, and this expansion seems to be continuing the Reno theme even though he will rotate out soon. Hope they continue to push highlander decks so they can still be a thing after Reno rotates out to wild.

This doesnt make much sense, Highlander is by no means a failure or any new kind of innovative experiment. This deck archetype has been around for ages, since MTG and quite a while back.
What would you want to replace Reno? What design space does it open by rotating it out? What design space do we loose? I think its a real tragedy if Reno becomes a Wild Card.
I agree Highlander decks have been successful, and certainly seem like something Team 5 has enjoyed designing around (Twin Emperor Vek'lor being initially based on no duplicates in your deck, and the set of Kabal legendaries this expansion); by all means I expect them to continue producing cards that work well with it, even if it's not every set.
However, Reno rotating out is most likely for the best, similar to Antique Healbot; it's not broken by any means, and I don't believe design space is even a concern here, but losing it will force Reno players to evaluate their lists and adjust them accordingly as part of the massive churn the Standard rotation is trying to promote. Even as someone who's built countless different decks with him as the cornerstone, I'm excited to see him rotate out simply because I strongly believe iconic cards can also serve as deckbuilding crutches.
It also gives Wild something that a single rotation truly wasn't able to; thoroughly beloved cards that are now only accessible in that mode. Brann, Elise, Justicar, the Dragon Package, Reno, Anyfin Paladin, Entomb, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem, Thunder Bluff Valiant... the list is considerable, and I have a feeling they're all cards that will draw a solid amount of people to at least tinker in the format from time to time. It's healthy for Standard, and it's extremely healthy for Wild.

Every since the day Standard was announced I have been looking forward to Reno finally rotating out.
Of course I also play Reno + Brewmaster decks myself sometimes, no point getting salty about something when you can make your opponent get salty about it instead. :-)
But it is a horrible card and very bad for the game, imho.
You are kidding yourself if you think reno won't be replaced by something else. I know it feels like aggro is dominating yhe meta, but in reality you guys are fairly easy to beat and no near as dominate as midrange shaman was. Aggro is important for a healthy metagame, but so are powerful heals and control decks, when reno leaves it only opens space for more heals, not less.
Renohaters, I'm so sorry renodecks take you longer than your average 5 turn pirate deck. I'm sorry someone actually did some thinking while putting together his deck instead of just copy the first midsham or pirate shit of a deck he finds online and just mash it against yours mindlessly as fast as he can. I know it must be strange to see someone who needs to think more than a moment during his turn. Not everybody just grabs the arcanite reaper as fast, bravely and decisively as you guys! Be forgiving!
I wanna ask the guys saying reno is OP: it's OK C'thun/control warrs (when those deck were sexy) to stack 40+ armor but God forbids if wlock regains, lets say 17 hp? how many times did you need to kill that warr? "omg, gotta kill wlock twice, QQ". Bi*ch, please!!
To me personally I don't care if Reno becomes classic since wild is always an option. I'm casual player I'm having fun playing what I really like instead of grinding with a top tier deck (just dont have the time, really). And if it takes to play wild to do it - so be it.
PS: I'm being encouraged and optimistic for the future of the archtype at least for priest since the introduction of the fat healing potion
People often forget that Blizzard did mentioned they were considering moving cards from expansions into the Classic set so they would ALWAYS be available in standard... Not saying it would be a good or a bad choice but that's still an option for Reno He might still get rich for a long long time!
As a mostly midrange/control player, I think reno is one of the worst designed cards in the game. Now allow me to explain. Throughout hearthstone's history blizzard has tried to fix problems by printing a singular batshit insane card, instead of a group of good cards, let me give you some examples:
1. Mage secrets and secrets in general were not used - print mad scientist, value wise one of the most broken cards in the game.
2. Paladin secrets not played even with mad scientist - print mysterious challenger.
3. Hunter loses a lot with standard rotation - print call of the wild.
4. 10 mana cards don't do enough to comeback in the game - print yogg saron.
5. No good 7 mana drop - print dr. boom.
All of these cards are (or were) unhealthy for the game because the difference between drawing and playing mad scientist on turn 2 or boom on 7 and your opponent not is huge and makes it more about who drew better instead of who played better. Also remember the infamous coin call of the wild into call of the wild. Reliance on one single broken card to get you far ahead or win you the game outright is not exactly the best solution to buffing classes/playstyles.
That brings me to reno. Often times I'm playing some kind of midrange deck like midrange paladin in wild and sure enough I bring the opponent down to 5 health but hey let's throw every previous play down the drain, heal back to full, clear my board with shadowflame, now I wasted so much cards for practically nothing because of one card with broken amount of value and now he has enormous card advantage. You can't really play around reno much as he'll outvalue you late game, you pressure him and then it's either he drew it or he didn't, that's what most of my games against reno boil down to. If he did, he wins, if he didn't he loses. It completely dillutes the part of the match where the opponent has to worry about health total and opponent putting pressure. Blizzard wanted to solve aggro decks being prevalent by printing reno, but what they should have done is finish what they started with zombie chow, sludge belcher and deathlord and add some more good anti-aggro tools and nerf some of the aggro tools. They had molten giant as a good basis of what an insanely strong anti-aggro card should be - something the opponent can also actively play around. That would have been a much more elegant solution that printing a singular card where you feel robbed and you lose just because he drew "that one card". Printing kazakus just adds more insane cards that further increase the problem of having to pressure your opponent and pray he doesn't have reno otherwise you lose the long game.
I think mage Reno is ridiculous. Every time I face them they just do happen to have ice block AND Reno.. gimme a break. I can't wait until it rotates out.

its the main theme of kabal expansion fuckin retard .. reno mage is not even the best reno archetype.. you can go to fatigue and ice block is useless, you can tech an eater of secrets for reno mage matchup only or siimply you can stop playng aggro ..

RenoLock is currently the strongest deck in Standard - so ofc you see a lot of it. The good thing about it is that RenoLock actually require a bit of skill and knowledge of the game - I'd much rather have a Reno-meta than a Tempo/Face meta...

I won´t miss him either. He´s frustrating to play against and I don´t even have particular fun playing him.
