Sorry, but in this he's right. Mage Secrets simply cost too much. Yes, mages get a nice 1 mana minion, but then they would need to keep secrets in hand. And then they would also need to play 3 secrets. Until that happened it's turn 5 or 6 already. And even if it happens on turn 4, i don't see the effigy-value here, because you do it like always: you don't kill it off. And without Taunt that's actually not so hard. And if you already played so many secrets, you hand is probably empty.
I can see play of it, but it would need either another tempo-based secret (the sheep-secret is really crappy for it) or at least another secret-related card. But it's has by far not the powerlevel of Thing from Below. Still i voted for Very Good, because it has a lot of potential!
So maybe an aggressive Freeze-mage on the other hand... well who knows!

Some people underestimated arcane giant. But arcane giant found a place just being slotted into decks that already would exist without it. This will need to be in specialized decks. There is also a big difference in that the giant was reduced in cost because of cards you wanted to play anyways. You wouldn't play many cards because they reduced giant cost, you may prioritize them slightly or reorder your play to benefit but they are good plays on their own.
Mage secrets mostly aren't that good to just play outside of very specific circumstances. You then need to rely on the Lackey (and yes Lackey's effect is far, far worse than mad scientist, but that doesn't mean it is useless just not something you can throw into almost any deck with a couple secrets to thin it out). This card will see some play if any secret heavy mages are out there, but it won't be thrown into any deck without a secret focus. And I am still skeptical about secret Mage. The cards released will have really awesome moments but I think it will lack consistency still, the Lackey into secret into valet leading to a zero or two cost 5/5 will be pretty rare. And with a bunch of new 5 damage AOE, six or seven health may be more valuable than in the past.
This said if secret mage will be a thing, this will go in, but secret mage will not be created specifally for this card

It has synergy with effigy and duplicate but to play that kind of deck you're playing a lot of secrets and that means a very slow mage deck yet one that's trying to win with bodies? If this had taunt it would be useful in freeze type decks but it's hard for mage to play the midgame with the current cards. They either play tempo or freeze and this card fits in neither.
In my opinion, this card isn't that great because I can't think of 2 secrets that I would actually want to play other than Ice Block and Ice Barrier, and If you have played 3 of those then you are completely fucked, a 0 mana 5/5 without taunt isn't going to do shit for you.. In my opinion there might be a fringe playable secret mage deck but I also think that they need more secret support in order for that to work. It just isn't there at the moment and I think it has potential in the future, but it isn't that good right now.
This card don't need cost 0 to be good, 5/5 for 4 manas, no drawbacks, is good enough after play Effigy and get a 6 mana minion when opponent kill it.
Yes, but in order for that to be the case there would have to be a reason other than this card to playEffigy. IfEffigy only combos with Kabal Crystal Runner, it makes the deck you are playing horrendously inconsistent. So in order for this to be played there almost needs to be a secret mage deck that wins by playing large minions in the late game. I just think it is too big of a stretch for this card to be viable. I hope I am wrong, because I honestly think mage has gotten complete shit this expansion but I hope I am wrong.
This card is being underrated. With the other cards that allow play a secret for zero, particularly the new 1 drop it won't be difficult to get a discount on this. With medivh valet to destroy their 2 drop and put down your own, a secret focused mage deck could very well be a thing.
Also a 4 cost 5/5 is good, and a 2 cost is insane. 0 cost...well we already know the power of that with Thing from below.

First of all you will be the one who is behind on board if that is your only minion that can be killed, you will be the one who will be forced to trade and otherwise you can play around effigy easily, just taunt up and go face.

Someone started fantasizing about best case, and everyone decided that was what it was.
I personally like to be more flexible in my approach, and I won't feel a bit sad if this little lady doesn't hit the board until well after turn 6, especially if she's free. I certainly wouldn't put all my eggs in the Effigy basket if it looked like my opponent had ways around it.

The problem is that secrets are more conditional than totems. It's rarely a bad idea to play Totem Golem or Flametongue Totem, but how many mage secrets can you just drop without care like that? And which secrets do you even run, you don't want to lower the power of your deck much to make this playable.

Secrets have to be played from hand i think so it would not work
( same for mad scientist, i like play on wild sometime :(
this card is not good enough to compete wtih those in dragon priest. why mage when u have priest.
This acutally might just work out. Thanks to having at least two ways to play secrets out for free, playing secrets is not that bad of a tempo loss.
