I mean, it's better than Kirin Tor Mage, but is it enough? Mage secrets aren't exactly amazing on turn 1 or 2 in general.
This card means you can activate Medivh's Valet on turn 2, play Mirror Entity for 1 mana and even makes Kirin Tor Mage playable because you now have an extra layer of redundancy with the mechanic.
Enough for what? It's not like mage is bad in constructed. Plus, if you get a mirror entity in play, you probably will beat what they play on turn two with like valet or something, and then be way ahead with like two or three minions on two
Sorry, but considering Mage secrets, it's really so useful to play this and a secret on turn 1?
Because it seems to me that Mage secrets are very powerful in mid/late game, except mirror entity I really shouldn't know what secret can be helpful on turn 1.
And it has to be an OP common minion for mage? Really?
I mean, in constructed it's crazy to have turn 1 Ice Block into Medivh's Valet or turn 5 Fireball into this fucker so you can copy opponent's turn 6/7 minion.
But in arena this is just too strong (at least as long as you have a secret, but it's not like mage secrets are useless in arena in general).
2/1 for 1 mana is insane body. And have realy good synergy with flamewaker because it is cheap.Blizzard already nerfed abusive sergant and lapper gnome because of theirs bodies.
Yeah, because triggering a valet on turn two to kill what they play, while having a copy of it is just terrible
Copying a turn 2 is not so good. We want to use our big secrets on big minion. But if blizzard add new secrets or new spells to put lot of secret in our hand, why not. Perhaps this minion will rise Counterspell but for now I think it's not enough because we need this t1, a good secret and the valet in mulligan :(
This is clever card design for sure. Kabal Lackey offers a 3 mana boost alongside a 2/1 for 1 mana which, in theory competes with preparation for efficiency.
However, do we actually want to play mage secrets this early?
My instinct says YES but only testing will prove it. I just feel that a T1 2/1 and Mirror Entity as strong tempo. Similar for Counterspell & Vaporize. Obviously, the secrets aren't as potent as they are when cast later in the game but they still provide strong enough tempo on turn 1 to justify the expenditure of 2 cards and 1 mana.
Why would this card see any play when Kirin Tor does not?
Because a 1 mana 2/1 is a shitload better than a 3 mana 4/3. That being said, I'm not that confident that this will actually see play in optmized decks.
Also, this has the advantage of cheating out a secret earlier than Kirin Tor Mage so you can play Medivh's Valet on curve with its battle cry. This is I think the most important aspect of the lackey. Maybe it should have been called Medivh's Valet's Lackey?
You cant really compare it to Kirin Tor Mage as the tempo generated on turn 1 is far more imporatnt for tempo mage than doing so on turn 3 when you actually want to do sth else than put secret in play. Any1 not getting why this card is far more better than Kirin Tor Mage has probably still very little understanding of HS.
Combining it with counterspell basically makes your mana wyrm/sorcer apprientice unkillable for most of the classes not to mention mirror entity - which may not be copying high value minions on turn 1/2/3 - but its still unbeliveable huge tempo swing. Worst part of it is that it all hapens in first 2 turns of a match up when game is often being decided who will most likely win.
Overall this card is insane. Will probably replace babbling book or 1 copy of flamestrike to make tempo mage evne more aggresive. Seems like it will be pretty hard to outtempo mage in upcoming expansion atleast by the time Flamewaker rotates out. Tempo mage back to tier 1 in my opinion.

Copy an Argent Squire an deal 3 dmg to its shild isn't awesome.
Lot of assumptions being made here yeah? Firstly, wouldn't use a mirror entity on it, at least not turn one (unless against shaman and it's going on their turn 2). Secondly, IF it copies an argent squire then Medivh's valet won't do it's damage because the secret has been popped, so if you are an idiot and play mirror image on turn 1 then you get what you deserve. Thirdly, an actual set up people may be excited about is turn one ice block/barrier and this guy, then if they play a squire, you ping the shield and trade or go face if you like, though I would trade. If they play something larger than a 1/1 then you can Medivhs valet it for some serious early game tempo.
This card is also good late game because it essentially becomes a cheap secret. This is actually quite good. 4/3 that costs the same as a secret is less impactful late game as all your getting is an easy to kill 4/3 body. Meanwhile this drastically reduces a secrets cost by 2 mana, which is more important for mage plays late game for a number of mage decks. (I.E. getting more fireballs from archmage antonidas)
If you look pass your greed for a moment and actually think about it . .
Essentially playing two 1 drops on turn one is actually pretty nice Tempo, especially since most decks only play good 1 drops.
Mana Wyrm, Coin Lacky into Entity/Counter Spell going second isn't too bad of an opener.
Wyrm then turn two lacky into secret plus Arcane Blast or double Lacky plus Secrets.
Lacky into Ice Block/Barrier/Counter Spell then turn 2 Medivh's Valet.
Lacky into Counter Spell against Druids.
Not to mention this cards late game advantage of essentially giving you a 1 cost secret, allowing you to it with Archmage for Fireballs, or a series of spells cast to place out a cheap Arcane Giant, etc etc.
Don't you guys think this card will help Kirin Tor get play .. There can be more secrets if you rely on card draw ( something mages don't have a problem with ) you might use Kirin Tor and Kabal Lackey together.

Medivh's Valet.
TEMPO MAGE

Strong but useless IMO.
Love the tribes.

1 drop with 4 mana worth of value BrokeBack

Still would play Kirin Tor Mage in my secret mage. It works a lot better with Effigy and Duplicate. (and counter priest)
Ok, we get it. Mage class have OP spells, OP board clears, OP minions...what they need? Oh yes, heal. Just give them heal and thats it.
Rogue have, OP spells, NO board clear ( beside FoN, RIP Blade fury), One OP minion, NO heal. Oh yes, they have "A Coin" and Miracle.
Nice balance.
