so dont think about playing it on turn one. you can go turn 3 flame walker coin dude secret. it can give you insane tempo on turns where that shouldnt be possible. the thing about ktm is it cost the same amount and for 3 mana is doesnt have an effective body on its own. also doesnt give a discount.
This card is a 1 mana 2/1 that gives you three mana. It is absolutely insane. The people bickering over what secret to use on turn 1 are so far off base it's comical. It costs ONE MANA. It does not have to be used on turn 1. The tempo generated by this card is insane.
Exactly!
Almost every card revealed so far has pages and pages of hate comments. They think it needs to be a 4 mana 8/8 to see any play... They obviously have no idea about card synergy, and the small things that can be very powerful.
Well. When you deal with 0 mana 5/5s about 40x a day at high ranks you kind of look for spectacular standalone cards.
It's a sad but true thing about the game right now.. Blizzard constantly makes a few decks so insane that of you aren't optimized with your less generically OP decks you are screwed.
The problem with NOT playing this card on turn 1 is a 1 health body mid/late game has zero value whatsoever. They value kill it before you use it. So mid late game you're really spending 2 cards for a 1 cost secret, which is just not enough value alone to make a secret worth it.
Also you're both mistaken. This is not one card that gives you a three mana spell free. It's actually TWO cards for a 2/1 and a free secret and that's what you're not seeing. Mad scientist was a single card that gave you a three mana spell free (and thinned your deck like a G) which was why it was so good. This is a combo card with a fairly weak payoff.. Mage secrets aside from ice block just aren't that good.

Sure it would be a great tempo swing but its still just ok´ish imo because you only have 30 slots in your deck. The current secrets (besides Mirror Entity) arent good enough to waste 4 slots. Mage has Mana Wyrm and Babbling Book as its current viable one drop minions, which both are better imo.
Lets say you cut the books, what secret do you want to put in? Mirror Entity, Ice Block, Counterspell? Mirror Entity is the only choice here imo as early board presence is always good. But how often do you get a hand with both? I can count on one hand how often I ended up with Mana Wyrm + Mirror Image or Tunnel Trogg + Totem Golem.
I´d rather use Arcane Intellect or a Torch in my deck than a secret tbh.
If we get a really good secret this xpo this might be a different case though...

So no one uses innervate because it uses two cards to get the extra mana used? Please. And Mage secrets all suck! That's why they cost the most out of all the secrets right? We all know Mad Scientist is broken as hell. God tier broken. Which is why everyone used it. Any card that is not as broken as Mad Scientist does not suck.
A 2/1 body has plenty of value. Either they need to use two mana to kill it with a hero power (Sorc/Rogue/Druid/Paladin*) or something has to take two damage to kill it. A 3 health minion can be finished off with a ping.
You say value trade like it instantly loses the game, rather than preventing X damage to your face. I really question how many people actually know how to play Hearthstone.
... it does allow to drop Alex and Ice Block on the same turn without using Emperor.
Yep; I can't believe not more people are thinking of the card like this.
Sometimes you have the 15 damage and Alex in hand to kill; but are unable to find a turn to play them because the enemy is threatening lethal on you. In minion based combat, the only outs were things like Flamestrike/Blizzard/Frost Nova -> Block, and set up a 2 turn lethal. You were still vulnerable to direct damage, weapons, and deathrattle spawns which would make the Alex turn dangerous again. Not to mention it would require the saving of the board freeze for this; which may not be possible depending on how the game has been proceeding.
Doing Alex -> Lackey -> Iceblock reduces the lethal turn count by one, as well as removing all outs barring secret removal, loatheb, or life/armor gain.
Will it be strong enough to make the cut? Time will tell. But all everyone else seems to be talking about is turn 1 -> turn 2 Medivh.
freeze mage buff. 1 mana 2/1 play a 3 mana secret.
Freeze mage won't play this. You need to have both this minion and the secret in your hand (mad scientist was good because it would thin your deck). This card is for tempo play, I'm not sure if it's good enough.

Polymorph Secret confirmed, the value of this guy just went substantially up. I think it could be viable now.
The point is that it has the potential to get very high value, but if it doesn't, it isn't bad.

Maybe:
+2 Medhiv's Valet
+2 Azure Drake
+1 Flamestrike
+1 Bloodmage Thalnos
