All secrets only work on your opponent's turn. If it could happen at anytime, there would be some serious balance issues...
They actually tried it the other way during beta, and it resulted in Paladins abusing Redemption and Eye for an Eye in horrible, horrible ways.
In the days when Alexstrasza's ability was considered damage, Paladins would cast Eye for an Eye and Alexstrasza-ed themselves to deal 15 damage to their opponent. Those were funny, horrifying times indeed.
Is it working as intended atm? I had my board cleared with Lightning Storm and it did not trigger Duplicate (even my Mirror Images have gone to waste).
I feel like Duplicate did not trigger because multiple minions died at the same time, meaning Duplicate did not know what the target would be for it to activate on.

As long as Mirror Image is a spell card that summon 2 tokens if no minion card is killed couldn't triger Duplicate. Thanks for sharing tokens couldn't trigger duplicate.
Tokens still count as minions and do trigger duplicate.

On the other hand, doing that nerf completely relegated most Paladin secrets to being trash forever. And really, I don't think they were abusing them that badly, outside of the whole Alexstrasza thing, and that was fixed before the secrets were changed.
Allowing yourself to trigger eye for an eye was one of the best mechanics in the game IMO. A week before it got nerfed I made a really good paladin deck centered around it. Now it's utter trash...

I've had polymorph sheeps and hex frogs trigger duplicate - I've also had duplicate trigger after a flamestrike killed multiple minions (it copied the first minion played). I don't see any reason why it wouldn't trigger when lightning storm killed a mirror image.

Yes, Mirror Image does proc Duplicate. You end up with 2 individual 0 mana cost 0/2 images in your hand.
I had a lot of fun with Duplicate the first few days, but either people started wising up or I just ran into fewer dummies and Duplicate became just way too hard to get value out of. It became too much of a chore to set up situations where you could get good value out of Duplicate so I switched to a deck without it.

it was also changed because of hunter's traps. it was very confusing in mirror because it was totally unclear how they work. like if there is misdirect and snake on one side and freezing and misdirect on other side u will see some serious shit happening on the screen. pala's situation is way worse because they have so much useless secrets and only three (am i right? :s) class minions. if you ask me pala needs some serious overhaul. mage is fine now as far as secrets go but freeze is sooo expensive now...
I'm still loving Duplicate. In a deck where all of your minions are value minions, you never regret watching it go off -- unless of course your opponent just Hexed your Azure Drake and now you have 2 Frogs in your hand. But when your options are Sorcerer's Apprentice, Kirin Tor Mage, Gnomish Inventor, and Azure Drake, who cares? Sure, I have Mana Wyrms in that deck, too, but it's not a huge deal to not play them and Duplicate at the same time -- or to do so and then suicide them into a bigger creature on my turn so that they don't set it off.
There's just so much value in spending 3 mana on a Kirin Tor Mage, laying down Duplicate, and then having them kill the mage to get you two more 3cc 4/3 beatsticks. Especially when you have the Fireballs and Polymorphs to back them up.
I looked at this card originally and I thought, you know, it's a card, and you play this card. The card will be that card that you play so you're playing a card. So, it is one thing to play a card. If you're opponent doesn't really have any cards, the card will screw up the card pretty hard, and that means it's a pretty good card.

how come you only get its mechanism to work when your minion gets killed in your opponent turn? It just says "when a friendly minion dies" !!

It also says Secret.

These were very dark times... haha
I believe it was like that for a while post-beta as well.

Ahhhh, thank you for clearing that up for me!

Don't run duplicate and mirror image in the same deck!

I love to frog a ninion when I suspect they have that secret..then kill it. lolz

Tokens count.
I killed an opponents 2/2 token that came with Silver Hand Knight and Duplicate triggered.

That makes sense, although it seems like it would be a little simpler now that they've declared triggers to be entirely based on first in first out.
