I calculated judging by my wins and daily quests that I've opened probably around 900 packs. I've only opened one golden legendary, Illidian. I'd say that was near pack 150.
Is there a pity timer? I saw someone say 400 packs but that can't be right.

You have to remember that the pity timer doesn't count all card packs. So while you may be 27 packs away from a golden legendary with Classic packs it isn't the same for TGT packs. If you open 400 packs of Classic then you'll probably get a golden legendary (not sure if the number has been proven yet) but if you open 200 Classic and 200 TGT packs you're not guaranteed a golden legendary.

Well you gotta remember. With how rare golden legendaries are it's kinda difficult to figure out what the pity timer for them would be. It's definitely in the hundreds which makes it so that itd take forever to actually figure it out.
There's been a year between my 2 golden legendaries on primary account lol not from the same set though... golden king mukla and golden fandral. On my NA arena account I opened golden rag lightlord and golden xaril in 30 packs FeelsBadMan
I could easily see 400 packs. I have only opened 1. While I haven't put much money in Hearthstone, I have only missed 3 weeks of a trip and a handful of other quests since they implemented monthly card backs.
I've been paying since the dying days of the open beta (the last wave where they invited pretty much everyone), I'm F2P so on average I guess I open 1 pack every 2 days, with an extra pack for the tavern brawl. I've gotten precisely 2, Golden Mukla (which I disechanted because I already had regular Mukla), and I then got gold Golden Dr Boom (which I kept, I disenchanted regular Boom).
A friend of mine made an account when WotG came out and just with the free packs he got, he ended up with 4 Legendaries, including Golden Fandral Staghelm....*sigh*

Playing since GvG, I got Lorewalker Cho, The Mistcaller, and just yesterday in the pack from my latest Arena run, Herald Volazj. I DE'd the first two to craft playable legendaries, the third one will probably follow the same path shortly.
I have get 33 legendary in classic packs and 2 of them are golden. And in old gods packs i have get 25 legendary and 2 of them are golden. So it's pretty damn really rarely when get those.
opened 2 over 2 years.. once a year I guess.. both sucked btw (well technically alexstraza is a good card just .. not used atm, and I had 2 normal copies)
I've been playing since closed beta and I've opened 4, Alexstraza, Deathwing, Al'Akir, and Nat Pagle This is within the span of I would say 400-550 packs. Haven't gotten one from any of the expansion sets yet, only classic.

F2P since beta. One golden legendary. Feel like I am losing out here a bit.

In the last 300 packs I've only gotten one, and it was a Millhouse.
