Discard lock could be tier 2 now. Never will be tier 1 due to the nature of RNG and how discard works.
But who cares, I get to legend every season with renolock since reno was added, and they always say reno is tier 2. Only shamans, warriors and druids are allowed to be tier 1.
It's a playable card let's leave it like that, I really appreciate that blizz now takes into account the community's thoughts because if they gave any more thrash for the zoo archetyped I would've cried... and then flip blizzard's shit into their throat
I think this is a really good step into making a discarlock deck viable but I think the archetype still needs way more tools (around 4+ cards), refering to synergies like this one and Fist of Jaraxxus style...
If only they had worded it, 'if you would discard a card and this is in your hand, put this into play instead'.
Let see...
You want a 3/3 and 4 damage for 1 mana? Really?
If the card text was this all matches will be warlock vs warlock.
It's not that much better than a 3/2 for 1 mana. Better, but, also requires 2 cards and synergy. But, yeah, maybe make it a 2/2 instead so it's not so oppressive. The main idea is not the power but having your discard not be random.
It would make it not random it would make it obsolete. If played with Sukubus its a 2 mana 4/3 and a 0 mana 2/2 That still would be crazy broken.
Now its design wise still Horrible since itll be a 2 mana 4/3 and a 0 mana 3/3 in like 25% of games. Thats a retarded coinflip if i ever saw one.
And this is why discard lock hopefully remains in Tier:Priest
If this ever will work itll completely destroy any skill aspekt left in this game.
And no you cant play around this with emptying your hand in an intelligent way since the sensefull discard cards cost 1 and 2 mana and need to be on curve because otherwise bad.
Discard Lock will feel so unfair when it works. And so impotent when it doesn't.
I think on average it'll be less good than zoo. So, I guess we get an inferior new archetype. Maybe good in wild someday if they keep supporting it.
I seriously doubt it. Renolock, zoo and demonbased warlocks will always be 2 steps ahead with broken shit like Nerubian Egg, Voidcaller, Imp-losion and Mal'Ganis still being available in wild.
The greatest problem of discardlock is that it's simply not as effective as zoo. Unless you get a really crazy card that changes this fact, discardlock will be a niche deck that's not as good as "the real deal". Nice tools in this expansion to set it up.
I actually don't think it needs to be that radically different from zoo.
Problem is that cards like tiny knight of evil and fist of jaraxxus are just not rewarding enough. I mean +1/1 in exchange for shredding a card is a terrible bargain.

But that's not all you're getting. The only time you'll ever discard is when some other effect makes you discard, and the lost card is ostensibly figured into the cost of that effect.
So when you play Doomguard, you are getting a cheap, large, charging minion AND +2/+2 to your TKE, which isn't so terrible, even if the cards you discarded were halfway decent. (If you manage to discard something like Silverware or Fist, all the better!)

That is a good point, but consider that the reason doomguard is currently played is because it's pretty easy to circumvent his drawback in zoo (empty hand). When you actually have to discard two cards playing a doomguard the card is much worse. In discard decks you're not trying to cheat the discard mechanic like you are in zoo, so you're going to feel the discard drawback a lot more (at least when you don't have malchezaar imp on board). In order to actually buff tiny knight of evil there's no way to dance around the card loss.

I mean, that's what this guy is for. You add value to your discard cards so that the loss of a random card isn't actually the loss of a random card. You play a bunch of low cost minions that don't hold a ton of value as a card to begin with and cards like darkshire librarian and Machezaar's imp to prevent you from having to go all in by turn 4 and viola.
I'm starting to hate this archetype. discard silverware golem with a soulfire: lul GG, nice skill you got there mate. Discard doomguard with soulfire: "extraordinary!"
Enjoy your trash, gimmicky deck. A deck using Yogg as it's only win condition is more consistent than this shitty "archetype".
Nah, there's no space for the card. In order to make a discard warlock, you have to take out too many good cards. Soulfire and doomguard will be the only auto include discard cards. Darkshire has potential seeing as it's a 2 mana 3/2 draw 2 cards.
I doubt discolock will ever work, it's too inconsistent, unless you can make a deck with 75% cards having the discard mechanic it just won't work.
Currently, you can have an half discard cards deck. And dragon decks don't need 75% dragons to work, this is the same here. An archetype will never have 75% of his cards into the same mechanic.
You can't compare the two mechanics, the one kill your cards while the other postpone the activation if you don't meet the requirements.
Worst case scenario is that you play a dragon activated card without an activator and you just gain a subpar body, while discarding mechanic can screw you really bad by discarding a card that you really want.

If you would cast Soulfire when you have a Doomguard in hand, you are obviously not cut out for this deck, so I guess it's best you don't bother with it.
Just got done by two silverware golems discarded in the early turns of the game over turn by 4.... freak? 1st time I faced this.
Your opponent went for the high roll and it paid off. It is likely a freak accident unless they have a bunch of 0 cost cards they threw down too.
If the opponent started with 2 Silverware Golem, Fist of Jaraxxus and a Succubus, it's not a gamble at all. It's also rather unlikely, but not TOO unlikely, considering the low median mana cost of the deck.

Or simply tap last.
I'm definitely rooting for discardlock as well. I'll play a midrange discardlock as opposed to the aggro everyone thinks is coming though.
I just looked more closely at the art.
I would like to point out that china cups, bowls, pots and plates are not sliverware.
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.

Not yet buying meta 'Discardlock' ,.. With those dream opening summoning this on Turn 2 it would be so strong. Other than that , meh.
