You could deny free trades with effect-based minions, e.g. you could make him swap stats with a Flametongue Totem, so your opponent cannot just trade his 3/2 into it for free.
If that plus a 0/3 Darkspeaker is worth a card and 5 mana though ..... maybe there are better examples, it's jsut the first thing that came to my mind.
The only card I can think of that makes it good is Power Overwhelming where you can then keep the stats, but even then you have Void Terror and Faceless Shambler that do it for cheaper. Really, the card just sucks compared to most other options. The only advantage it has over either of the other two is that when silenced, it has better stats than them.
I got it in my ftp account and used it in a totem shaman deck: played it to buff my Mana Tide Totem and my Flametongue Totem respectively. It did take my opponents longer than usual to deal with them, but I didn't feel like it was a match-deciding move in either case. And then I got a golden Evolve in a pack and the totems went out the window along with the Darkspeaker lol.
I also tried it in a priest deck, but not for very long; I thought somehow that it would buff my Northshire Cleric, but even my ftp Priest has way better card options at the moment.
Using Evolve on it is actually a cool idea, makes it more valuable after you "used up the value" of the battlecry. I'm going to try that next time for sure, thanks!
Has anyone tested enrage abilities on the card yet? I was think it could be an interesting card in control Warrior. Does Darkspeaker keep the default card stats or the enraged stats?
It has many combo uses I think. Problem is it is so situational that it's probably safer to run a more mindless card most of the times. I guess the high mana cost is what makes it hard to efficiently combo. This plus rarity makes it a very underused card during early expansion stages either. Maybe it will become more common as more people drop them from packs.
Meta cant support this type of slow, board-dependent, situational combo card. I mean you only have 30 spots in your deck. There's ALWAYS going to be something better than this, despite all the fun shenanigans listed above in this thread.
i though to combo him with Validated Doomsayer , you play validated. next turn ( as a 7/7) you atack with him andafter that changestats with darkspeaker. Your next turn you have 2 7 attack minions. But is only theorycraft not try it in real situations.
it is good to save cards that on the edge of dying like Ysera or ragnaros imagine that your Ysera have 1 or 2 hp you can swap stats and Ragnaros the Firelord you can save it. Or you can give Angry Chicken 3-6 or you can use it with warior cards there is too much possible usage for it
I was wondering if anyone has found a place for Darkspeaker yet. It's a very bizarre card and it's stats make it even weirder, anyone have any ideas?
RIP yogg-saron good things don't last forever :(
Maybe in evolve Shaman, its like 3/5 with "charge".
Off the top of my head:

Think of it as a neutral Power Word: Tentacles.
So basically worthless.
Make the Card: The biggest thread on the site!
My mandibles which are capable of pressing down and tearing, my talons which are known to intercept and hold.
I run one copy in my midrange shaman deck. I'll use it typically to buff a totem, preferably Flametongue Totem, and then I use Master of Evolution
It's not completely horrible in an evolve shaman, but it's pretty bad.
ie...give a totem 3/6 to trade to kill an enemy, then evolve.
I think it's just a joke card. Once, Brode said that we need bad cards to teach new players to tell the difference between good and bad cards.
I do think it has some use, though. Turn 4 Eerie Statue into Turn 5 Darkspeaker into Turn 6 Spellbreaker + Hero Power. I think Faceless Shambler is still strictly better, though.
Explosive Shot => Meteor
Power Word: Tentacles => Spikeridged Steed

I was thinking a swap with validated doomsayer could be beneficial since he will get his attack power back

I play for fun. I don't rank very high.

In Arena I had a nice use: My Piloted Shredder gave me a Nerubian Egg, than I played Darkspeaker to swap the stats, and later I used Spellbreaker to get the 3/6 stats back.

Example:
Turn 4: Bloodhoof Brave
Turn 5: Inner Rage on Bloodhoof Brave (or attack opponent's minion) + Darkspeaker
This is going to sound ridiculous, but I was using Darkspeaker in a Warlock deck for the following cards:
Dragon Egg for many 2-1 tokens, plus the opponent doesn't expect the sudden 3-6 with charge.
Imp Gang Boss for basically the same reasons above, but they already perceive Gang Boss as a threat so less of a surprise.
And, for maximum silliness, Grim Patron. Yes. In a Warlock deck. Activate with things like Demonfire, Mortal Coil, and Tentacle of N'Zoth.
Run 2 Sea Giant for all the tokens and extra Patrons.
I don't think it's competitive but it's really fun.

A cool card, that doesn't have any actual use in many decks yet.. Till a latter expansion, or till someone finds a broken combo.

I read this thread earlier today and now I just opened Darkspeaker from a pack. You must have jinxed it.
