On opening this card I wasn't too sure what to feel. I found myself questioning if I should disenchant it or not... But i tried it out anyway. After a few bung games, I found myself questioning why RNGsus would even make such a card. Then he answered my prayers.
Maybe i should've just been running Faceless Manipulator instead? Either way, I was PSYCHED when this happened.
Has anyone else pulled off anything cool with Shifter Zerus and would you rate it/include it in your decks??
He was my first legendary in the new set. I've found he actually works really well in Renolock, since holding onto him doesn't matter too much and you can wait until he's good. I've gotten a nicely timed Earth Elemental, Reno Jackson (in my Reno deck), and a Mana Addict while holding Power Overwhelming and three other spells.
He's not for every deck for sure, but I don't think he's something people should just count out just because he's random. He's sort of like a long-term choose-able Unstable Portal without the spell synergy.
I crafted this card because I knew it would be amazing in control decks. It may be RNG but you control what the outcome is and it can give you answers if you wait long enough. My experiences playing it have been pretty good.
I just got it today, and i think its a very fun card. I use it in my Control Priest deck along with the 2 Forbidden Shaping. Three 3 cards give Control Priest much more flexible in midrange curve.

I had similar thoughts, hence throwing him in on my control warrior deck! Not always useful, but can lead to a lot of fun.
I just don't believe in cards with text that basically reads:
"Don't worry, there'll be a time where I will be absolutely worth it! I Promise! Sadly, it won't cover for 50 failures beforehand, but there'll be this one time you'll take a screenshot and have a laugh!".
So when I opened my Shifter Zerus I was feeling a little let down. Don't think I will even bother trying him out.
Lol, I also got him as my first WotG legendary :D Never even considered disenchanting this gem.
Haven't really played a lot with him since there are so many plausible real decks to test, but the suggestion to use him in renolock actually makes some sense, might try it!
Unstable Portal always gives you a mana discount, which is the selling point of the card, and it becomes "stable" after you cast it in a sense where you know what minion you have to play with and have an idea when you want to play it. Shifter Zerus is none of those things and is a lot more "unstable" than the portal.
Not to mention spell synergy. So yeah, those cards are pretty different.

I highly recommend that anyone interested in the reality of playing Shifter Zerus in an actual game go and read my full analysis of how it works in Standard with all of the Old Gods cards included:

Do you really rate a best case of 1 mana discount to be better than getting several chances at a good minion? Remember also there is a chance that you actually loose mana when you play unstable portal by getting a one drop. Certainly Zerus can transform into something you want before you have the mana to play it but it's literally equivelant to it shifting into something you didn't want, there isn't any effect on the probability that it shifts into something good later.
I can't argue with spell synergy. Not all mage decks have to run spell synergies, although the way the meta is looking they actually do need them to stay competitive.
In my opinion, this card should have been an epic, it seems more reasonable to have 2 in your hand for a higher chance of getting something useful every turn. If they made it so you can choose when he stops transforming and keep it as is for the rest of the time, or if he always transformed to a card that is the same cost as your remaining mana, then there would be a lot more viable options.
Absolutely an amazing card, not for its powerlevel, but for the fun.
I crafted this guy first, and do not regret it.
Obviously you can never be sure that you will get what you need exactly when you need it, but if you play a control-oriented game you are 100% sure to get something very playable at some point.
The chance to get legendaries from other classes clearly augment the usability of this card. Imaginge Tirion in druid...
I play for fun in low ranks, and I will never not play this card.
So far the highlight is getting arch-thief rafaam for the win on 9 mana.
The "downlight" is getting onyxia on 8 mana and reeeally needing her.

And you can also pull something ridiculous out of it that would end the game on spot, like a turn 3 dr7.
You have a what, 10% chance to fail it, 10% chance for a blowout, and 80% chance for a reasonable outcome. The fact that the card you pull out is discounted is huge and makes a lot of lackluster minions fall into 'reasonable' category.
I think it all really comes down to if you like RNG and gambling. I personally would run this in most decks for the lulz and hey why the hell not, but I understand why some people may not like the randomness of it and seeing it more as a dead card that will most likely not be anything useful to them. But for those who want to take the chance, you may get something nice here and there.

But you can play Unstable Portal on turn 2, and then play a 6 drop on turn 3, for example. I think that's the insane part about Unstable Portal. And the chances of getting a 1 drop are pretty low.
I've got Shifter Zerus in a pack, I think it's a fun card but not nearly as good as Portal.

Unstable portal isn't quite the same... you can coin it at turn 1 or play at turn 2 and be able to play a really big minion way earlier than you could with Zerus (-3 mana cost vs no mana cost reduction...)
I love Zerus btw :)

Enjoy!
I wish you could choose when it stops transforming.
