Guess they thought it was too good with Unleash (+ Juggler) at 0 mana. Still seems a bit weird to go after this card when we've been living in the era of board-spreading decks, and even now the card is by no means an auto-include at 0 in a class considered underpowered relative to the rest of the meta.
This does actually intrigues me as to if control was too powerful in testing standard, I mean c'mon really 2x should still be auto include with all these big minions coming. and its easy to spare 1 mana for this.

When is the last time you've witnessed a face hunter meta? And for that matter, how often do you see a face hunter playing mark? If anything, hunter class in general needs some serious help right now. I'd stll play this card in midrange, except that, realistically, midrange hunter is a casual deck, and face hunter also sucks, but less- since it actually does have some good (and even more horrible) matchups. I judst listened to .Firebat last night, who said that he was able to make every class deck that is reliable enough to get top 100 legend... except hunter. Sad, really.

C [–]TheMasterDS - worth noting, 0 mana Hunters Marks would've had amazing synergy with C'Thun since they can be played the same turn as him and his random damage would kill the hunters marked enemies quickly leaving more damage for face.
this sucks! Other classes have way better 1mana cost removals. and this is not even 100% a removal! you need a secound card to kill anything.
Way better 1 mana cost removals? What are you talking about? Also, Execute needs another card to kill something too, and it's the most close comparison I can think of.
They did nerf it for no reason. I don't remember anyone complaining about this card. It's a good card, that's all. Just like Backstab is a good card. Costs 0, so what?
0 mana spells are something I'd be looking at when waving around the nerf bat.. but really, this instead of touching innervate? :S
I can get behind the hunters mark change but it really makes me sad other 0 mana spells weren't looked at.
Innervate is a card that fits the soul of druid pretty well, and isn't the shittiest thing in the world to face, so long as Blizzard is careful in the future acknowledging what Druid can do with it, that being one reason for the druid nerfs. Hunter's Mark offers pretty good value, especially as the game slows down. Which is what they want. Hopefully, this will be a world where Hunter's Mark is even MORE valuable because of bigger minions coming into use, and one cost is justified, perhaps gleefully accepted.
This nerf was really unjustified, and unneeded. Hunters going into standard are going to be dead in the water, unless hunters get some really good combos its going to be a mess. Currently only 2 decks work with hunter face and midrange both aren't that good compared to competitors. The nerfs to neutral cards pretty much gutted aggro and midrange to an extent while buffing control and combo decks.
With changes like this it makes you question if they have any idea what there doing with hunters. They are the only class that will be held to a single arch-type of midrange in a control and combo heavy meta. Nerfs like this make it even harder to compete against classes that are far better off.
Think of it this way, hunters mark got nerfed, however equality did not, hunters mark is only for one minion and requires another card to be useful. Same can be said for equality except it hits all minions.
So
Pyro+HM = 3 mana deal 1 damage aoe + 1 kill + 3/1 body
Pryo+equality = 4 mana kill everything except shielded minions(Which paladins have more of then other classes)
How is one card a problem and the other isn't? Why can't blizzard actually fix the problem with hunters that is no card draw+no aoe, which is the only reason face hunter is popular. There idea to fix this is to latch it to random beast draws which are 50% complete duds.

Meh. This card was never too oppressive anyways. Was a nerf really necessary?

Honestly, I'm not even mad. Finally Hunter's can have more than 1 spell that triggers Gazlowe and doesn't burn 2 cards

I'ts okay. Hunters tended to play it when they have floating mana anyway. What this does it stop some lazy Steady Shot with left over 2 mana.

this is the only nerf announced where I was like "aww, dang." but I get it, it's pretty nuts.
