Not sure how I feel about this one. Guess there weren't many options for changing it other than increasing the cost of removing the effect entirely. Kind of crazy how much better state-wise Spellbreaker is for one extra mana. Though, maybe that beast tag carries a heavy cost.
Dumb decision. If they at least had buffed the stats, but now the card won't see play ever again most likely. 3 mana is a commitment, meaning you can just as well play Sheep or Hex the 2/1 body is pretty worthless.
Also, if they up the budget of silence, why aren't Spellbreaker and Silence not being changed? They are inconsistent and don't understand that silence is terrible value in most circumstances.
I think that was sort of the point, they wanted the classes with silence removal to be playing those cards, while leaving classes that didn't have it (or had really crappy versions of it) to be forced to play this now slightly worse neutral if they wanted a similar effect.
On the second point, I too find that odd. I expected those two examples to be nerfed in some way as well. I guess we'll have to see if either start seeing play to tell if they really do need it.
Lots of tears in the comments but seems like most people voting approve of the nerf.
Definitely not bad. Being cheaper than Spellbreaker and a beast makes it almost a pseudo Hunter class card. If beast Druid becomes a thing it would probably run the card over Spellbreaker as well. Otherwise the card becomes really situational rather than being the default silence. Spellbreaker becoming the default neutral silence card will definitely make silence more important to get value out of.
In dont agree with the nerf. Besides keeper of the grove there are very few playable silence cards and this nerf hits them both. Buffed or deathrattle minions will benefit a lot i think.
A 2/1 for 2 was never a strong body, but it could still trade with a lot of other 2-drops, and if it required the opponent to use a hero power, well, that's a 2-mana investment. I'll add one more "it'd have been fair at 2/2" voice to the choir. A 2/2 for 3 would still struggle to deal with most 3-drops alone, and while most 1 and 2-drops will handle it effectively, it'd be a bit less trivial of a body. A 1-HP minion at 3-mana is just so ridiculously weak. Except Magma Rager, which is obvi the best card in Hearthstone.
Not sure how this changes the proliferation of silences. There's still as many ingame. And for the most part, the extra 1 mana won't matter, as these were rarely played on curve anyway.
A single target, single effect, non-removal spell would always be (preferably) underpriced because it generates zero tempo and cannot be played on an empty board. Apart from that, having a card do both things two separate cards do at once (e.g. spell + body) is in itself worth at least 1 mana. That's why Seal of Champions Costs 3 mana while Blessing of Might and Divine Shield cost 1 mana each.

They really should remake the silence effect and it's availability among classes...
this is too severe! 3 mana for a 2-1? c'mon. Silence is not that op
Silence is a (0) mana spell; just saying.
If Spellbreaker starts seeing play as a result of this nerf, I think that can be seen as a good thing.

I always thought Spellbreaker was a cooler card than Ironbeak Owl anyway. This is just an excuse to use the former over the latter.
@wakasaki I mentioned that fact just to repeat how much the silence capacity is worth in terms of cost… not much.
That extra mana changes the whole game specially in the early turns.....say up to turn 6.
its ok now
*The tier guide will return*
a 2/1 is not even 1 mana, silence is 0 mana, but when they combine it cost 3 mana, so weird, should've cost 2, oh wait...
I see their point in making silence not so cheap, but they should have at least tweaked the body to 2/2.
Now it's a dead card for non-beast decks.
Aww - Time to play Spellbreaker !
