Effect is quite powerful, but everybody is only talking about the dream situations. Not to hate, but if you don't actually have that minion (at 5 mana you're quite likely to not play them in the same turn), then this card loses a lot of value. In that sense, seems like a win-more card if I'm honest.
You don't actually need a specific combo to make this card amazing. Just have a deck with many potential targets, and happily use it when the opportunity presents itself. It's a very rare game that sees your opponent clearing your board every single turn.
I'd be quite content to use it on anything from an Azure Drake onward.

Itl probably see play in mill decks as using its battle cry on stuff like Coldlight Oracle and Brann Bronzebeard or with all of them with the use of a single Shadowstep are all very likely and easy to pull off and gives you more mill.
Yeah, there are some sickening limiting-case combos. But a lot of staple Rogue cards would be quite handy.
Shadowcaster an SI:7 Agent, allowing for a 2 damage for 1 mana. An Earthen Ring Farseer for extra HP, or an Antique Healbot in Wild; we all know how Rogue decks often need a bit more health. Pretty sick with Azure Drake or Bloodmage Thalnos, an extra card draw and a super-cheap spellpower source and combo activator. Jeweled Scarab and Undercity Huckster might not exactly be Rogue staples, but along with Xaril, Poisoned Mind they all add value without drawing deeper into fatigue.
honestly, the only decent play I see with this card is copying Wobbling Runts because that's the most likely thing to stay on board that would be worth playing as a 1 1. All the people saying Malygos are crazy haha. Even though hes got 12 hp, the chances of him living a turn are very minute, not to mention you're usually going to be casting your burn the turn you play him. This card may have some interesting turn 10 plays though with the coins you get from Tomb Pillager or you can play this and Shadowstep to be able to combo it with something decent, because you need a really good battlecry or deathrattle for this card to be remotely good
Honestly just the benefit from copying Brann Bronzebeard make this good enough. T8 you get a 2/4 and 4/4 with two 1 mana 1/1 Branns in hand. This helps you enable C'Thun double hit combos or just gives you easy-to-combo Branns. You could even use Thaurissan shenanigans to get multiple Maly's on one turn.
Shadowcaster on a Shadowcaster and Shadowstep one back. Emperor Thaurissan ticks on Malygos and both Shadowcaster. Next turn you can play Malygos and both Shadowcaster for 2 1/1 Malygos in your hand and a pretty intimidating board to deal with. Sure it's convoluted and time consuming but you're still placing minions on the board and you have a guaranteed +10 spell damage the next turn for 2 mana. I know it's probably not very reliable but it's something I'm wanting to toy around with.
I think this will be best in Raptor Rogue because then your oppoent can't spoil your plans by killing the one minion you were gonna copy. Any good deathrattle minion that survives a turn is a potential target. Your opponent didn't have a silence for Twilight Summoner and he let it live so you couldn't attack with a 5/5 this turn? Perfect time to play Shadowcaster.
This card is interesting, but certainly not metagame defining. And definitely not in every rogue deck.
1. You need a minion on board to make it not a crappy 4/4 for 5. Which means you need to have board control (something rogue has certainly never been able to rely on), or, more likely, you need to play it on the same turn as the minion you want to copy. Which makes it rather slow.
2. It is directly comparable to azure drake. They both provide card advantage. The difference is, azure drake works whenever you play it, and gives you spell power, which makes the body much more threatening.
For this card to work, you need a very specific deck. I certainly like the design, but most people here seem to be vastly overestimating its power.
Nice card. With Loatheb, Sludge Belcher, and Antique Healbot cycling out, Rogue has free space for 5 drops and this could be pretty good on early targets like Coldlight Oracle, Tomb Pillager, and Brann Bronzebeard. There's also a chance of getting high drops like Malygos, even though it might happen very rarely.
My combo senses are tingling....

You can use other variations on Shadowstep, Brann Bronzebeard, Emperor Thaurissan and Shadowcaster to get the same result as well so it's fairly flexible in that regard.
N'zoth can reanimate 1/1 into original stats. hype!
