"The Old Gods, even while chained beneath the crust of Azeroth, led massive armies and empowered fearsome generals. The Ancient One was vanquished long ago, but it's hard to keep the minions of the Old Gods down, and with enough of its blood, you can herald the return of the Old Gods' greatest creation!"
A ha, thanks. So it's something they made on the spot just for the set - it's not supported by World of Warcraft books or anything like that? And it's not seen in a raid, so we don't know anything about special abilities, hit points etc etc?
Like the Ragnaros-turned-good-guy, if it is like this then it seems like a very lackluster attempt at lore. I mean, you don't get to see a 30/30 every day, so there had better be some good and deep story behind it... Deathwing for example is a key element in the lore and an annihilating force of nature, and yet in bare card stats he is more than two times weaker...?
Deathwing for example is a key element in the lore and an annihilating force of nature, and yet in simple card stats he is two times weaker...?
So 12/12 + Wrath of God doesn't reflect his power lvl in wow? Please tell me more about how 30/30 vanilla never gets summoned because too hard is "stronger".
Not just "dies to removal". Raw stats don't count for a lot without powerful effects your opponent can't answer, namely Battlecry(s) and end of turn effects. Also the ancient one is impossible to summon unless you already won the game so there's no reason to play it ever aside from racking up saucy points.
If you want to be technical, yea in a fist fight ancient one slaps every other card in the game (loses to a snake/spider bite) and in the lore Deathwing was manipulated by the old gods so logically something they created in their prime would be able to kill him by itself.

Don't be aggressive with your comments - it only gets you added in ignore lists. As you can('t) see, I only wrote about basic card stats which theoretically should very roughly correspond in one way or another with attack and hp in WoW. As for the playability of the card, it's a discussion that's being exhausted in the other thread, one that I already commented there (impressive but too gimmicky etc), and one that has no place in this thread.
Battlecry: Annihilate every card currently in play and an entire player's hand surely makes up for a lack in stats. Summon Deathwing after your opponent manages to summon The Ancient One and there ya go.
@tictac: As said elsewhere, the lore isn't 100% correct and faithful to Warcraft, even though it's supposed to be, as mentioned in the title of the game itself ("Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft"). Plus, as we've seen and as the designers have said, with this expansion they are not only experimenting with "what if?" scenarios, but it might be the first time that Warcraft will play catch-up with Hearthstone, since some lore and details are not seen yet in Warcraft, for example the artwork and some details on N'Zoth.
Characters power was never reflected by stats or how powerful cards are, it's very loose connection.Ancient one has 30/30 stats because that was their design not because they wanted to reflect that it's the most powerful being in WoW lore. I mean just look at other cards, Ilidan has weaker stats than random ogre or Thermaplugg (hell, Thermaplugg has stats in the ballpark of Dragon Aspects).

If you look at it another way, your opponent plays The Ancient One. You know what would save you?
The Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft team have admitted multiple time in the past that the game is very loosely connected to the lore, in the same way the Yu-Gi-Oh card game and show are connected basically with names only. The cards don't reflect what happens in the show nor vice versa (take season 0 and 1 for example of Yu-Gi-Oh and Antonidas vs Deathwith in Hearthstone, the fact that Antonidas can kill Deathwing beyond the grave technically). As well as other lore breaking qualities of the game, such as Cairne being dead already, Bolvar being the current lich King, Deathwing being dead, Uther being dead, Gul'dan technically being dead in another universe, and Garrosh also dead.
Guys, it goes without saying that we can't make direct connections of the game minions and mechanics to WoW. I mean, every time a dwarf decides he has nothing better to do, he kills giants, dragons and Deathwing for fun. Or a thermonuclear attack from the Ancient One will be stopped by a tiny Annoy-o-Tron. What I am saying is that when you have the largest Hearthstone minion ever, there should be a fitting story behind it instead of a few rough lines in a site somewhere.
We know exactly what you're saying. What we're saying is that it doesn't really matter. They can put whatever numbers they want on a card. It doesn't "have to have" a strong basis in lore. In reality it's better this isn't strongly tied to the lore, 30/30 is impossibly big shoes to fill for anything that actually exists.

That's what you are saying. 3 posts (or actually any number of posts) doesn't make you a spokesman for everyone else. And we agree that we disagree.

I admit I don't know anything about the lore of The Ancient One, which will be created in game by 2x Blood of The Ancient One. How is it supposed to have such colossal stats, even more than Deathwing and Golemagg ?

You can make him a 100-100 and it won't change a thing. Polymorph makes everything into a 1-1.

The lore behind several cards in this expansion should probably not be taken too seriously :'D
