everyones comparing this card to varain well i want to say that the card is better than varian because in the late game it does not work towards fatigue but with varain if you have no cards its just killing your self
can't tell the effect is good or bad, i think you have to build a deck around to make it work, can see some combo potential, not a bad card overall. Art is sick
The effect is certainly strong, and i can see this being a complete game ender in Control VS Control games, but otherwise, just like N'Zoth, it's way too slow, and directly opposite of N'Zoth, this guy won't actually have immediate value, he could pull out an Argent squire, and then just die.
"The value"
Because you play this in a deck with Argent Squire... right.
Just like you wouldn't put in low cost minions in a Joust deck... oh yeah... that happened didn't it
There is kind of a difference between getting divine shield on a crappy minion and putting Ragnaros the Firelord or Ysera into play with 100% certainty.
You miss the point. The biggest reason joust didn't work out (Other than most of the cards being bad) was because you couldn't realistically give up your early game presence. Even when the card was good like Tuskar Jouster you still had to include Zombie Chows / Minibots because otherwise the healing didn't matter because you died regardless.
Same thing here. If you don't have early game minions you're never going to reach 10 mana to use this thing.
Oh hell yes you could! It just wasn't worth the payoff! I played hunter and mage decks with only big minions and they function just fine, but there needs to be a payoff, and joust cards were utter garbage. Also not unimportant, they were too cheap to synergise with each other.
Why does blizzard hate creativity? The old gods should have unique and cool effects, this is just a Varian for everyone. The effect doesnt even relate to Y'shaarg at all.
Very true. Of all the ideas they could have picked, they go with something really bland.
Pretty good if you're not playing impactful battlecry minions. Maybe a deck that is more spell heavy and carries a ton of super powerful mid and late game.
Well comparison with Varian Wrynn is obvious, but this card may see the play. First of all, it's neutral card, which actually creates some possibilities: I can see it to be played in some sorta control mage, something similar to echo mage with giants and other non-battlecry minions. Other option is obviously deathrattle oriented deck, which is something what Warrior was never good at. It can be actually hidden gem of this expansion.
In a deathrattle deck N'Zoth is just better. I suppose you could play both...that seems...like a lot of old gods.
What is Hearthstone to you? A fun and semi-competitive game with wacky effects and crazy RNG outcomes or just a card game you wanna grind as many wins you can get as fast as possible in?

agreed, boring expansion just to make more money.
Isn't the goal of literally *every* expansion to make money?
Disappointing and boring effect for an old god :( .. They could do so much better, with Klaxxis cards like Ysera, or different Sha's effect... I'm very disappointing on this. The two other gods are cool but this one.. my god
Yes you can........and it MIGHT be good for getting daily's done in casual play........if your lucky.....

Yes it is a complete game ender in the control VS control games, as in whoever plays this looses cause they get fatigued faster.....GG
Horrible card and horrible lazy design for an old god.....Blizzard is really knocking it out of the park with this expansion so far....
"Put a minion" probably means a random card, but card doesn't have word "random" in it's description. They said they are going to use a template system to unify card descriptions, lol.
This card is bad, but not because "it's a worse Varian" like a lot of people are saying. It's bad because it takes your whole turn and doesn't have an immediate impact (like Rag or Ysera). The only 8+ mana cards that don't have an immediate impact, and are still being played are Chromaggus (barely) and Tirion (for obvious reasons).
i know a lot of ppl comparing this to varian. but i would argue this is actually better than varian.
the problem with varian is
a) it's effect is too unpredictable. yes, draw 3 cards with random summoning condition is nice on paper, but the thing is, you know you have a good chance of missing while y'shaarj doesn't miss. ever. it will always get you a minion (not always the one you want.... i will get to that later)
b) the statline makes it BGH able, which is the same problem y'shaarj have... so no biggie there.....
c) it's a class card..... while in most cases, this is a buff..... this restriction, as a class card, limits is potential in my opinion. imagine playing varian in mage, you have a chance of hitting a few of the commonly play minions and legendary with no battlecry effect but have rather devastating effects on their own once they hit play (but of course, that leaves you wide open to lethal and probably mass removal or fetching your own doomsayer). Unfortunately warrior needs all their battlecry effects to be effective with the exception of garrosh, or acolyte of pain, which is kinda sad if you get it off varian.... paladin in its current form (which will rotate to wild soon) if played with varian, you get a bit better option since you have 2/2 divine shield robot, tirion, the only battlecry effects i normally see are maiden of uldaman, abjudicator, and mysterious challenger, which by turn 10, if you play varian, you might want to hit that challenger instead if you already got your first one...... so in general, i think other classes can play varian well better than warrior can play varian.......
so back to y'shaarj......
let's go with the cons first since it's easier to pick apart:
1) dies to BGH, that's the big one
2) you have little to no amount of control over the effect since you will probably end up with still some low drop in your deck.
3) you still going to have some battlecry in the deck that you really want.
so what are the pros?
not really too many in all honesty..... at least you know you can always have a minion..... so what deck could use its effect really.... some form of control mage maybe because you can hit an antonidas (but probably get kill right then and there without any chance of its effect use), control pally (you could hit a sylvanas, tirion, ragnaros, lightlord, ysera......... there's some options there..... but if you are going turn 10, there's just better option), control hunter (highmane would be the dream)...... mostly in control decks probably.
For 10 mana they could have at least made the effect "at the end of your turn summon the most expensive minion remaining in your deck. 10 mana cards should have potentially game-ending effect, this current effect leaves too much to chance for such an expensive minion.

I Have No Time for Games
guarantees a minion to the field and is available for everyone. can be drawn early if you use Ancient Harbinger with it.
What a boring effect for an old god. Incredibly disappointing. Thank goodness I didn't pre-order this expansion.

Astral Communion Druid and Fatigue Warrior just came it's pants!
WOW this card is amazing in those decks!!^^
I really love it, but I also love Varian Wrynn so yeah...if you don't like him you're not gonna like this :P

I guess it was inevitable that one of the Old Gods had to suck. Still a shame though.
Goodnight, sweet prince. You can go hang out in the corner with Illidan and Deathwing.
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
It doesn't say "random"
Mostly Harmless

The Sha of Boredom? The Sha of disappointment?
Seriously, this effect makes very little sense.
Facefull Void - best Void!
