Basically topic. Im annoyed, that questline hunters always kill me on turn 7-8. I've tried to build control shaman, with a lot of spell distruption, healing, dirty rat and skulking geist, but they complete their quest and play travish on the same turn, so i cant get rid of him. Back when big priest was everywhere i would play mage with polymorphs, tinkmaster overspark and a lot of freezes. Now im looking for the deck that counters questline hunter
Guys, this was posted in the wild section. Stuff like Aggro DH are not a thing there.
Anyway 'Control' Druid decks have always been an easy win vs questline hunter (you can choose what type: C'Thun, Linecracker, Togwaggle, Dragon,...). Way too much armor gain for the hunters to handle.
Apart from that mech decks (mage/paladin) are strong vs questline hunter. You play a lot of divine shield stuff and this makes it very hard for them to progress their quest efficiently (a damage spell that pops a divine shield doesn't really deal damage and thus no quest progress)
Furthermore, I doubt that Questline Hunter can keep up with the efficiency of Pirate Rogue, the current meta 'tyrant'
Finally stuff like Geist are too slow vs quest hunter. Not only does it come too late at 6-mana, but it doesn't really disrupt them too much other than thinning their deck and making their topdecks better. Also since a long time questline decks learned to play around rat by completing the quest only when they have the mana to play the reward.
I primarily play a Curse/Mill warlock in Wild (not terribly successful, but it's what I find fun.. I don't particularly care about climbing ladder).
I'm about 50/50 against Questline Hunter with it.. it largely depends on my own draw. The trick is because curses trigger the questline, I can cause it to trigger when the hunter has a full hand, thus milling Tarvish.
That deck is also way overtuned and annoying in Standart, seriously who in their rite mind from Team 5 came to the conclusion that Dragonbane Shot may be a balanced card ?!?
Seriously, besides Pirate Warrior, Quest Hunter has received more support than any other deck, to the point that it just feels dumb to lose to yet another untalented, uncreative Net Decker every 2nd game. In fact losing to lazy uncreative Net decker's in general is what makes me want to (long overdue) quit HS.
Oh what am I even demanding for here? Why even reward "creative" control players, like me, the funny Reno Paladin ? Who is desperately seeking Glory and Fame with Off-Meta decks.
Yup.... That just wouldn't make sense, Blizzard....right...... RIGHT ?!?
I find Reno Paladin to be a counter to it (with all heal cards). he has burst of 20 damage ? thats cute but you heal 20 hp next turn without any problem etc
eventually even with dragonbane and howling he starts to loose steam at some point. maybe try it
also as someone mention above divine shield is a good counter to qhunter. it doesnt progress the quest, mess up their control and you reach face even with some traps. def put okani in there to slow down further and you can also run mutanus and shadowhunter if he doesnt play tavish same turn as quest completion (based on std exp), worst case scenario you disrupt Raj.
so if you really hate this build def try this kind of Pala
Do you see a lot of quest-hunter on ladder? I barely see any, but I do see a lot of (attempted) counterplay. Mech-Paladin is imo the best choice and almost an auto-win. The hunter have to kill your minions to stay alive, but they all have divine shield = no quest progress. Druid, Pirate-Rogue and Reno-decks are supposedly good, but I have played a fair bit of quest-hunter and I find all those match-ups fairly even if not favoured.
Rather than a specific deck you can go for big burst turns. Quest-hunter has a plethora of single-target removal, but no aoe. If you manage to quickly spew out a big board you will likely win. Mech-decks excel at this.
Having said all that I wouldn't really bother trying to counter quest-hunter. I've played that deck to high diamond or legend the previous x seasons. It's been easy peasy until now. Atm the ladder is very hostile to the deck in my experience and it's not worth running. Small sample size I know :-)
Questline Hunter is average in this wild meta. Druid can gain too much armor.
Anyway, as Shaman here is how to beat Questline Hunter:
1. Easiest way --- Big Shaman with Ancestors call and Lightning Blooms. Turn 1 reborn 10/10 or the 7/7 green elemental with deathrattle summon another 7/7.
2. Overload Shaman ... it's a race condition.
3. Control Shaman. This is the challenge. I prefer control Shaman although it has a tougher time in this meta.
Nonetheless, I beat them about 50 percent of time or almost.
#1 Toss everything that isn't Lotheb, Dirty Rat or "I'm 7 moves ahead of you".
#2 You run 2 Brewmasters plus Grumble? I do. Most Shaman don't.
So pressure the Quest Hunter with a minion every turn and then turn 4/5/6 pester them with Lotheb or "I'm seven moves ahead of you" using Brilliant McCaw to harass them. "I'm seven moves ahead of you can cause them to screw up and complete their quest".
Then it's Dirty Rat time and freezes and usually you'll be ok.
"I'm seven moves ahead of you" played right when they are near Quest compietion screws them up especially if you pick minion and often they get the Tavish reward in hand when they were trying to not do that because all of them are very Dirty Rat aware.
If you don't draw either Lotheb or the Seven Moves Ahead Dude, you are screwed unless they stupidly complete Quest without playing reward and so you can Dirty Rat them.
The biggest challenge is since both the key minions are "no type", you really need them in opening hand because you tend not to draw them since many Shaman draw options pulls either spells or minion types.

it: sorry, didn't notice it's about wild
well quest druid counters it very well but you'll suck to everyone else lol

I have played quite a lot questiline hunter up to legend.
Exactly as mentioned above
Druids are the best if you want to almost auto win vs hunters
Pirate rogues and mech paladins are also highly favored
Hunter quest with better rng.
Thanks

Quest hunter is pretty dead in diamond and up. So if you can manage to paladin or druid past there’s hope!
Grizzled Wizard + Sir Finley Mrrgglton
I haven't played Wild in ages, but I would guess that Loatheb is still a great counter to spell-based decks.
Or if you just want an autowin, Robes of Protection.
