I cannot believe how EASY aggro has it in this game. Board clears dont work unless you have like 10 of them that also remove divine shields too. I just dont get it. Why do these decks constantly have such easy and cheap buffs ready to go turn after turn. I thought a board clear was supposed to "calm" things down for at least a turn? No? I mean, nothing helps. Nothing. Its worse in Wild of course. It just sucks that what are supposed to be counters to or at least cards that slow things down a bit are 100% useless. Taunts? Useless. Kahrtut? Junk. Reno Jackson? Great - heal back to 30 but next turn facing down a board of like 40/40 stats. You never have a chance to get anything going of your own whatsoever. Even a midrange deck is an automatic loss to any of these "full board with huge stats" aggro decks.
Zephyrs? Useless. Even if he pulls a full board clear..... next turn? 40/40 board again. Now what? Its just awful that we cant really advance with any decks other than this type of stuff. My Reno Hunter got me comfortably to D4/D5 but its nothing now but the try-hards and 4th graders milking it. Geesh. This isnt fun. Why cant we get some legit help against these decks? Like raise the cost of their buffs and get rid of divine shield. Something? Please?
Unfortunately in HS you need to choose between having fun or climbing ladder, the most fun i have playing hearthstone is in casual, any deck can win, you don't face the same shit over and over again (secret mage, warlock, aggro), but some people only enjoy playing the game if it means climbing the ladder and reaching the highest rank they can, because everyone has their playstyle and aggro is the fastest and easiest way to climb ladder, as someone who plays 1-4 matches a day casual seems to be the best mode for me
Every expansion has a few OP aggro cards, it was inevitable this would eventually lead to a situation in wild that was way out of control. This is why the best fromats in the game for me overall are Arena, Battlegrounds and Standard. Do I keep my wild cards? Yes - it's fun to keep the collection and I'll always play the tavern brawls.
Speaking of which - the current tavern brawl, where you pay health for spells is what wild feels like for me, just sped up slightly - a race to see who can pull the most unineractive, unfair, not-designed-for-a-30hp-game BS play first. There is very little strategy, it's all draw RNG. WIld wasn't always like this - it had it's moment in the sun, when the game was less saturated with broken cards and it was the best constructed mode in the game, but that time has long since passed and it's not coming back. These days its good for staying around bronze chicken rank, completing quests and playing stupid meme/tribe decks that you built yourself for fun and know are no good at any remotely serious level of play.
I have never, ever copied decks; although I obviously make card choices inspired by decks I face. And I don't like Aggro, at least in its purest forms. So I just set a goal of Diamond 5 which gains me an Epic card at month's end. Hybrid and control decks win often enough to achieve this. If you want to grind to Legend though I'm afraid that only Aggro is consistent enough to reach it now.

Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.
Aggro gets all the love cuz it’s so easy to create small and impactful effects. Any large, high-cost effects are apparently harder to balance for the HS team, so they don’t make as many, if at all.
At least, that’s what I’ve heard. Not entirely sure if it’s true anymore. Whatever the case, it still sucks.
Dude i'm winning games with a Carnassa Keleseth hunter, you have no excuse.
Yes aggro is easier, is dominant, the whole game is designed around it. But no, it's not the only viable archetype.
Not at D5 and down you arent. You'd get crushed.
Crushed by hyper aggro decks and fast combo decks yes. I'd crush everything else. And I'd get enough of a winrate to climb with the help of win streaks. You'd be surprised by how much support Carnassa has received over the years.
If you can't climb you're just bad cause bad decks climb ladder, that's my point, aggro decks are not preventing anyone from winning games or having at least moderate success. A couple days ago you could read on these forum that souls warlock was breaking wild. Today is aggro. Tomorrow is APM mage. When there is no inspiration it's secret mage. There's always a new thing allegedly breaking Wild, and that to me is a good sign, that most of the time nothing is breaking anything. And when it does, it gets nerfed. Does aggro get nerfed in wild ? Not often.
D5 is pretty much where I am every month, I climb quickly to D10, struggle some to get to D5, and then couldn't care for the legend grind, like many people.
Unpopulair opinion: The game is just fine. I guess people like to have something to blame eventho statistics prove otherwise. The best performing decks in high legend wild are by far a control build. Don't like it? Don't play it!

Fortunately, we have aggro. In wild, there are decks that can OTK you between turn 5 to turn 9 Without aggro this game would only be a time rush with who is able to combo first.
The OP and the guy claiming Reno and zeph are bad have no idea of the game. Aggro is strong in wild, but so is anti aggro, control and combo. I play wild exclusively since years, and I climb to legend with off meta stuff every month. So stop claiming things like “only aggro and tier 1 decks can reach legend“. Maybe you can reach legend only with those, but than you maybe aren’t as good at deck building and piloting as you think.
And yes, meta is fast. Which is fine. It would be horrible if all the games go to 10+ turns, and it would be horrible if one clear would be enough to win the game against aggro

I think there should be a system incentivising playing off meta decks i.e. those including less-played cards. Each card could have a score based on popularity and then that could translate into greater experience gains or something else to encourage experimentation. They will not do it, not after they started introducing battle-ready decks but it would be a great way of rewarding experimentation.

The old "You're bad" thing. Yeah sure. I stay at D5-D3 too because I refuse to play window-licker decks. Thats fine. But lets please STOP pretending its a skill thing. No the hell it isnt. Aggro is the epitome of no-skill. Thats why its so abused. I get it. Just though there'd be some variety between D5 and Legend. Guess not.
Again, its fine but lets be honest about the facts here.

Reno does NOTHING when the next turn the board is reloaded again with 40/40 worth of stats. You used your whole turn 6 to play Reno and even if you did draew some early cards to help you are still dead next turn or damned close to it. Zephyrs too - it always wants to pull that Shaman card that deals 3 damage to all minions which is helpful. But, now your !@#$% overloaded next turn and are dead because of that. Its obscene. No, games shouldnt all be boring control games or take forever. But, geez, can mid-range or highlander decks get some help here? Can we at least charge the proper mana for these insane buffs? Like thats not asking too much, IMO.
There is no anti aggro except maybe some crazy & perfectly drawn priest deck with all removal. Sounds fun to play.
Oh and Murloc shaman has a board clear now too - that deal 1 damage to all enemies when summioning murloc always gets the poison treatment too. Awesome. Thats cool. Murloc Shaman has Flamestrike-quality board clears now too. Makes a ton of sense. What a joke.
The game just needs a few more early turn board clears per class is all if they put in a few per class it would help alot with this. Basically you need more lightning storm effects in the 3 mana range like 3 mana deal 3 with a down side. Instead of 2 overload i feel lightning storm needs an overload reduction to 1. But the game needs a similar effect for other classes in the same range for wild. Like warrior has several but no good finishers in wild. Priest has an effect but its only 2 damage you really need a 3 damage effect at 3-4 mana to be good against those boards. Priest would be ok if they made more good effects with promoting that mid range dragon build. Which i feel its sad while the deck was good at one point dragon priest is just bad in wild. It would be nice to see a resurgence of dragon priest in a mid range build for wild. Warrior needs some actual finishers in wild and more ways to stall out the game till they can do that. Rogue / Demonhunter in general need buffs in wild as does shaman control. I think in general the game itself needs more control options for players that dont feel like you just lose the game if you miss on a single attempt to hit combo decks as well or that weaken you so heavy vs aggro decks. Like dirty rat is a great mechanic but same time if you run into a game vs big priest a dirty rat is just a card you cant play and eventually you have to because your hand gets over loaded in most cases.
Aggro has always been king and will always be - because the target market for the game is mostly kids playing CS:GO and similar (i.e. fast stuff, just like aggro), with the added benefit that those not having enough time to play the game can also get more games in.
And I deeply hate Blizzard for this line of thought and their decisions. I'd much rather have 1 really good game in 20 minutes(even when losing due to my mistakes, NOT stupid retarded randomness and powercreeping), than play 4-5 meaningless games in that time, obviously still decided by stupid extreme randomness (way beyond just the card draw one).
I know, i know, not all of you think or feel as i do. Unfortunately, the way the game is designed has never showed us "the other side of the coin" and we are just used to aggro being the best choice no matter if it's able to be countered or not, due to the high number of games in the same amount of time. The problem is that the rest of us don't really have a viable choice - i'd really love to be able to play long and meaningful games, irrespective of their result, and still feel that i'm accomplishing something and having fun, etc.
Yet, that's not really possible. Every new expansion is the same shit over and over again. Demon hunter is the epitome of aggro. Mana cheating and cost cheating have plagued this game for a long a time and will continue to do so, just so teenagers can get their endorphin spike and continue playing this shit instead of buying condoms and playing with their girlfriends.
I'm sick of you, Blizzard, really sick. Have been since Brode decided to do these things, and will continue to be until you find a proper game designer that can think outside the box and change the focus/target of the game to something more meaningful.
Amen - look, aggro has a place. No one, me included wants to play 40 minute fatigue games against priest all day. But, guys.... cmon. Its crazy now. They have way too many powerful cards that buff and reload boards. It just seems off to me.
