I started playing a bit of wild on a secondary f2p account (the only deck I had there was Gala Rogue which sucks a bit post-nerf and I was getting a bit tired of it so I thought let's gather all the dust we can and craft a deck for wild to see what it's like). I had never played wild before and I started with only a 2x multiplier so climbing is extremely slow.
I am now up to gold 10 and through the whole bronze and silver ranks I don't think I've faced a single meta deck (no Secret Mage, Quest Mage, Reno Priest, Cubelock, Maly Druid, Uther OTK Paladin, Mech Paladin, not even a single Odd/Even deck of any class). It felt like I was facing random home-brews or what might have been a meta deck in standard some X years ago and some guys are still playing today in wild unaltered.
I played Wild for the first time last month. I played Odd DH to see how far I could climb once I hit standard legend. I went 45-7 before hitting Platinum 10 with no star bonus. Around there, I started playing against competitive decks for the first time. But remember that the MMR system tries to keep you playing against people with the same star bonus (I think) so it’s possible you can probably climb higher without facing a strong meta deck every single game.
I saw all sorts of Pirate Warriors, Odd DH and Quest Mages on the ladder even down in Bronze this season, but there's always the occasional off-meta decks even in Platinum. Like others have said, probably to do with the MMR ranking. I'm sure you'll be seeing the joys of T2 Ship's Cannon all over the place soon enough.
I'd agree to some level though that the meta decks are probably more common towards the upper end of Gold
Wild has no competitive scene, a small fraction of players of standard (except in China) and lot more cards, so you are not going face competitive decks regularly in Wild like in Standard even in legend.
Facing tier 1 decks gets more common as you get into higher ranks but I face meta decks right away at the start of a new season. Matchmaking is at least partially based on your hidden MMR so you're facing players who have about the same skill level as you regardless of rank.
honestly if u had made it to legend previous season, u should face top tier deck right the first game of the next season. So it depends on your mmr, not your rank
I just got back into the game a couple of expansions ago and have climbed the wild ranked ladder to legend for each of the last three months.
In my climbing/playing experience, Wild ladder is a really mixed bag of opponents where you can face decks of any power level, both homebrew and popular netdecks cribbed from the biggest websites, at any time and rank. This is part of the appeal of eternal formats in CCGs - with lots of cards comes lots of viable possibilities.
To answer your question, I haven't consistently started seeing the same few meta netdecks played until high platinum/low diamond ranks but YMMV.
For me, the last few ranks of Diamond this month I played almost exclusively against quest mage, discard lock, mechathun lock, cube lock, and pirate warrior decks. While last month Odd Demonhunter was played very heavily pre-nerf (along with the big shaman/linecracker druid counter decks).
Still, even the top ranks aren't all purely competitive netdecks.
Anecdotally this month I lost 4 different matches at Diamond1 3 stars to the same exact mechathun lock combo list before finally winning against a totally janky homebrew overload even shaman to reach legend.
At legend I've been playing mostly my favorite homebrew versions of popular archetypes: OTK quest cantrip mage, blood of the ancient one big shaman and DR. BOMBS warrior.
I'm sure these seem pretty random and off-meta to opponents but since they are based on competitive decks, they still do pretty well.
I had never played a single game in wild mode prior to this week, so my MMR would be the 'default' starting MMR I guess? I am something like 40-5 since till gold 10, so at worst I should have a decent MMR for next month
In my couple dozen games so far from the bottom of Bronze to mid-Silver, I've played a few decks that are straight-up Standard decks and another few that are very much most likely meta lists (pirate Warr, lock variations). The Cubelock player didn't seem to know what he was doing but other than him everyone has known how to play the game generally well despite ranks. I'm super OK with my losses and wins at this point but I am miffed that it'll take so many more wins to get to higher ranks. It'd be nice if they let you just skip 5 ranks pre-Gold if you're ever on a big winstreak but oh well.
It's been a fun way to earn some gold for SA if nothing else! I'm glad I can still play with all of my old cards. I'm milking my Big Warrior cards till its dry!
So I made it to Plat 10 with no multiplier past bronze 5 and I only faced my first Secret Mage at gold 1. I faced 2 of them in total and one was some weird list running C'Thun cards too. I met exactly 1 Baku DH, no Pirate Warriors, no quest mage. I thankfully got a 10x multiplier though for August so I expect different matchups this month
It depends on how you did in previous seasons. If you made Diamond 5 to legend, you get x10 star bonus, and you are matched with other players who have the same bonus. You then get to play against competitive decks at bronze 10.
I would say as soon as you hit platinum for the first time you will face meta decks forever. To avoid this you have to conpletely skip a season or 2 which is just retarded but thats another topic (abysmal ladder system)

On which rank should I expect this to change?
Only secret mages for me. Other decks are standards decks lol.. what's wrong with these people.
Gold 5 to plat 10 the cancer came to me.

Your MMR is low.

Hi OP, welcome to Wild!

I would say it depends on which time of the month. First days all decks are highly competitive as climbers are rushing for legend.
That being said, IMO the decks have been more diverse the last month. However at rank 1&2 diamond I think I faced 70% discard warlock for some reason.
Even in (low) legend people are playing fun and noncompetitive decks right now. :)
Its all about MMR, nothing to do with your actual in-game rank.
And to answer your question: I face meta decks on every in-game rank on everyday of the season. Meta decks make up like 95% of my matchups.
In my couple dozen games so far from the bottom of Bronze to mid-Silver, I've played a few decks that are straight-up Standard decks and another few that are very much most likely meta lists (pirate Warr, lock variations). I only got to platinum 10 but still got a 10x multiplier for this season and now already in bronze 10 all I meet is Odd DH and Secret Mage;)

You could switch from standard to wild every other month to achieve this
