I'm one of those guys who dusted all my wild cards like a year ago when KotFT rotated out. I'm having regrets for the first time because I really liked the DK hero cards.
My favorites where:
Anything with Warlock and Shadow Reaper Gul'Dan, Dragon Priest, Elemental Mage and Beast Hunter/Maly Druid.
Malygos Druid was my first competitive deck because I had opened malygos and had dk malfurion. So this is a bit nostalgic (I really started playing since KotFT).
I have 10k dust and I want to craft 1 competitive, but fun Wild deck with one of the above hero. I don't have any wild cards, but I am willing to dust some legendarys that I have but never use (like golden Nozari and other somewhat trash legendarys). Besides that, I have almost all legendarys of the standard expansions currently.
Any tips are very welcome :) (also note, that I have like no experience with older cards then Un'goro but that does not have to be a problem)
Edit: I'm visiting the forums and decks for a long time here, but first time creating an account.
I recommend investing in Warlock because it has many tier 1 and tier 2 decks like: Reno Warlock, Mecha'thun Warlock, Cube Warlock and Darkest Hour Warlock. Each new expansion you will only change 1 or 2 cards max. Visit this website to check the top legend Warlock decks in wild.
For the last 3 seasons I reach rank 5 with secret mage. There are a few budget version lying around on internet, if you just want to get the feel of it.
And please do not dust any card if you want to invest in wild. Any card could be useful in future time. Wild just being wild.
I also just notice that now you can buy wild with GOLD.
The warlock decks are expansive af haha. Unfortunately. The website gave me a nice beast hunter deck where I miss only 10ish cards and 1 legendary being DK Rexxar.

I would give you a more simple advice. Start playing with your standard deck(s) and get to know what is the flow of games in wild (they are completely different than standard, like aggro is much more fast, control needs strong wincon and disrupt tools, combo finishes you by round 8-10) and in this way you'll also experience other decks (played by your opponents) that you might like. Then you can craft one or two decks with wild cards for yourself. This last expansion brought so many powerful cards that even some standard decks are doing well in wild.
As other have said Warlock have a wide range of competitive decks you could use. Meca'thun warlock has worked pretty well for me and helped me achieve rank 3 last season.
I have played a few matches but the opponents were really bad. 1 go played mage with Murlocs. So that did not represent any sort of strategic ladder deck that was somewhat fun and competitive.
my advice is to just start off playing with cards you have, there is a legendary crafting list somewhere here on hearthpwn... check that one out and look for craftable cards... older cards become obsolete (is that the correct word?) after sets... like Sludge Belcher used to be in every wild deck, but I havent seen him in any deck anymore... because there are now better cards... same is for Justicar Truehart because of the printing of the odd and even legendary cards... so what i try to say is that you have a risk that if you craft an old card you might end up not being competitive anymore with that card... and your dust will be lost...

I currently play a quest reno semi-Dragon mage, it feels kinda similar to Maly Druid (my all time favorite deck) but at the moment it fares much better for me. Rather than using sorcerers, it uses various combos to win the game, such as Time Warp, 1 of each Giant you have, take next turn, Alexstrasza, kill - or get 2 extra turns with Vargoth! There’s plenty more to it but I’m too lazy to explain it all - I can post a list soon if you’d like.
If you only look at the DK's Jaina would be the strongest imo. So I would recommend Elemental Mage. I combined a Elemental dekc with Big Spell Mage, pretty decent and fun.

Can you tell me more about this? As I said Maly Druid was my first competitive deck, so a variant with DK Jaina seems cool.
I am having fun atm with elemental mage some guy shared on hearthpwn, but I feel like that it isn't really competitive.

Tier 1 is expansive atm.
Cool, gl with it.
Quest mage like 4x sorcerers and fireballs?
I used to play it a lot, but I want to have more fun with DK Jaina and the elementals.
Rexxar is good, it helps for mid and long game. For low rank, you don really need him.
just extra note, in low rank you will meet alot of golden portrait player. The just farm gold or doing quest. AND THEY USE EXPENSIVE DECK.
Anyway, welcome to WILD :)
opss I mean secret mage. corrected.
Does it use multiple elementals and Jains?

start at rank 25

Warlock seems strong but they are expensive. I don’t want to invest 20k dust in all those legendaries at once.

Thanks for the advice 😂

Pirate Warrior. Cheap, easy, fucking destroys Big Priests.
Edit: I missed the DK requirement. I must learn to read properly. Warlock is the best DK in Wild imo but the decks can be expensive.
