Here were the closing numbers on the China server for January 2020, taken about 20 minutes before reset:
Standard - 13,119
Wild - 17,601
If it wasn’t clear, these guys are essentially census takers: they concede hundreds of games at the end of the month to find out the legend population.
Interestingly, the numbers this month were about a 30% increase from December, which is unusual since December is traditionally (after April) the month with the second highest number of Legends across all servers.
It's just the same as modern/standard in MTG. IF you have $$$ or have been playing since launch and haven't dusted, wild is great. But if you just started or are trying to get back in you better be ready to slap some benjamins down.
Coming from a once avid wild player: sure there's more deck variety, but every top deck does stuff that's so degenerate it's not fun for me anymore. The game is either over by turn 5 with little to no interaction (Pirate Warrior, Mech Paladin, Darkest Hour Warlock), your opponent draws a single card to shut out your entire strategy (Reno Jackson, Zephyrs, Albatross), or you get hit with a hard-to-disrupt OTK between turns 7 and 10 (Mecha'thun Warlock, Quest Mage, Reno Quest Mage).
All the other regions have more legend players in Standard. The que times in EU Wild Legend is actually bad.
Wild would be a lot better if they balance some of the broken stuff like Mech Paladin and Vargoth Time Wrap, and Darkest Hour Warlock.
For DH Warlock, they should make Bloodbloom 3 mana up from 2, it would also force Mecha'thun warlocks to run Galvanizer. Mech Pally gets destroyed by control decks. The biggest problem is Quest Reno Mage, that deck is bonkers.
Standard is a boring cesspit with hardly any archetypes, it's same decks 24/7. Wild is far superior than Standard.

Wild is great, it has a great selection of strong decks, it's not even close.

That's for the China server.

Wild has ALWAYS been very popular on the china servers, not so much on the other servers
