Quite a lot of people play wild so it's not really unpopular. Most people do focus on standard because it's the official tournament format.
Ive mainly been playing standard but do play wild occasionally. Imo, it's too soon to go back to wild but the format will get better as more cards are released. Also, after rank 10 more than half my games in wild are against secret pally. Still so annoying!!
scientist, shreder, boom, avenge, minibot - are you kidding?)
However I think card like Lightbomb, Belcher, Deathlord must be available in stardard for sure. Also Sneed's - it is super cool legendary which will be more and more interesting with new legendaries to come + nzoth synergy.
There was a blue post about some cards they POSSIBLY can return into standard from previous rotations, but playing pure wild is like diving into ocean of unbalanced shit
Standard is much more balanced despite all the salt you see around, Wild is imbalanced nonsense of the mode with insane matchup dependence that you cannot see in Standard anymore (literally 85-15 matchups and such, like Priest vs Zoo, Zoo vs Pala, Patron vs Zoo etc)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Standard is balanced, that is actually the best joke i've ever heard. Please play wild and don't talk about what other pros blabbering about. Wild is absolutely balanced, far more than standard.
I play all modes, and in my opinion is that Wild is much more fun than wild atm... There's more than 5 decks that are being played which is more than you can say about standard...

Of course it is not, and it's hardly a matter of opinion. Bigger matchup dependence and more OP cards... It's better for you maybe if you are unable to climb in Standard cos it's harder, in Wild you can just take Secret Pally and ggwp legend :) Trust me been there, seen meta inside out:
In standard most matchups are between 50-50 40-60 which you can see on insane number of games tracked by vicious syndicate, also not a matter of opinion, while Wild is a mess. Also learn to read, I didn't say "Standard is balanced" I said "Standard is much more balanced than Wild" and there is a difference even tho you might be unable to see it. It's comparison between two modes.
You cite sources for standard (which I've seen, and it's disturbing what Shaman and Hunter win rates look like compared to other classes), but what you're trying to prove here is that JebWild is a mess but you come with nothing more than opinions saying that it's all match-up and draw dependant and come up with these 85% win rate numbers, but can you actually prove that?
I for one really enjoy Wild. I don't play the game super often or competitively but I honestly don't mind seeing Dr. Boom and the like, and he hasn't been an auto-include for many of my decks there (though as a Priest player I suppose that has never really been the case).
Just because Dr. Boom. The only real problem of Hearthstone.
LOL what. you can't be serious. As a neutral card, Boom is fine.
I enjoy Wild much more than Standard, as there is more variety and ability for most classes to produce viable decks. And unlike Standard, the difference between a Tier 1 and Tier 2 deck isn't so huge that Tier 2 becomes unplayable.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
If there is any reason why I don't play wild it's mad scientist. 2 mana 6 value. At least dr. boom is only 2 mana undercosted.
I don't really care that you see more decks in wild when there's a number of aggravating and overpowered decks that completely ruin the enjoyment. In standard there's at least only 1 really over the top deck/class right now in my opinion and that's shaman. All of the others I can handle and I don't think any of them have any card/combo that's on the level of mad scientist/challenger.
Also freeze mage in wild. The only deck where you can be 99% sure who's the winner as soon as you see it's a freeze mage. There is no outplaying a good freeze mage, he'll draw all the cards he needs and clear your board. The rest is up to you, whether you have a deck that can beat freeze mage or whether you teched in eater of secrets and you draw it on time. I know murloc pally and worgen otk exist in standard, but they don't have the stalling tools that mage has, at least you can attack with your minions most of the time.
Tbh would probably enjoy wilbecause i have all the cards, but i don't know what the meta is so i never play. That being said newer players will struggle in wild in theory because they can't take advantage of the gigantic card pool.

But that's part of the fun on it. You go in without knowing the meta, build a deck with cards that you want to play and evaluate success. It's almost likely playing Hearthstone without netdecking (which has its pros and cons), minus the occasional secret Paladin.
At first I was standard only, because i was so tired of some GvG and Naxx cards (Boom and MC+Avenge mainly, but also many others).
But I am trying to make wild work now, with the cards I have after a year of f2p.
Sure wild is wild, there's some combo against which your deck has no power, nor can you consistently foresee your opponent's strategy before it's too late. So that winstreaking is maybe harder, but you can still ladder up successfully with the correct tweaks.
So all in all, I think the main reason for wild being a bit unpopular is the first line I wrote in this post. People, especially new-ish players, are scared of old cards and the crazy combos they can unleash.
Most players prefer to have some idea of control over the opponent they might encounter. Wild powerfully undermines that idea.
I've been playing only standard ever since it came out, but I tried wild today. Wild format was so refreshing because of more card options.

Missing lethal since June 2015.
Cause people are sick of secret paladin, that's why.

if like me who started playing 1 year ago, you definitely want to start off in standard

People do not play willd for 2 reasons :
1 they do not have wild cards
2 the ones that do have wild cards are bored of them .

There's enough doctors in wild to start their own hospital

In wild you're going to see Dr. 7, Sludge Belcher, and Piloted Shredder in every deck. So it gets stale easy.
